Fun Fun Fun Fest 2012 Day 3
Pallbearer may have started around 1 pm, but kept its audience in mourning. The group moved with the deliberation and anguish of its namesake. Guitarists Brett Campbell and Devin Holt dropped emotional bombs with weight comparable to receiving bereaving news. Campbell used an effect to make his voice appear distant like a ghost whispering in the ear of its lost lover. This was the third time in the last year I caught these Arkansas melancholic musicians, which is special since they only have one album of material to display: Profound Lore released their debut full-length recording, “Sorrow and Extinction,” in February.

Metallica To Host Its Own Festival In June
Following several cryptic announcements on its Facebook page, Metallica went on live stream today to say that the band will be hosting its very own music fest this year in New Jersey. "Orion Fest," the name of the new music festival, will be hosted in Atlantic City on June 23rd and 24th.
The event will feature 22 artists, comedy and lifestyle elements. More than just music, the festival will also showcase the band's individual interests - and allow fans to interact directly with each of the band members. Orion Fest will be held at the decomissioned airstrip Bader Field and was chosen because of the equidistant nature of it from L.A. and Europe, and the proximity to Atlantic City lodging. Metallica plans to headline both nights, confirming the following acts for the festival already:
Arctic Monkeys
Avenged Sevenfold
Modest Mouse
The Gaslight Anthem
Cage the Elephant
Fucked Up
Best Coast
Hot Snakes
Titus Andronicus
Gary Clark Jr.
Lucero
Roky Erickson
The Black Angels
The Sword
A Place to Bury Strangers
Liturgy
Metallica will be playing the "Black" album in full one night and "Ride The Lightning" in full the next night. Visit the Orion Music site for more information.

Fucked Up Finishes Recording New Album, Posts MP3
Toronto's Fucked Up have just finished recording their second album. It will come out on Matador worldwide on October 7. Entitled "The Chemistry Of Common Life," it contains 11 tracks on the CD and 12 tracks on the double vinyl. This sprawling, multi-instrumental epic is "basically about rebirth and the Sun. And lightning," according to guitarist 10,000 Marbles. The sound is incredibly dense, featuring 10-15 guitar tracks on many songs, along with flutes, organs, and French horn, with an elegant clarity and sense of purpose. The record picks up where 2006's "Hidden World" left off, in terms of the band's characteristic monumentality, but injects a newfound urgency and unease which the mystical lyrical concerns only amplify.
Guest performers include Katie Stelmanis and the Vivian Girls on vocals, Max McCabe-Locos on organ (formerly of the Deadly Snakes, also featured on Fucked Up's "Year Of The Pig"), and many others.
The first MP3 from the new album has been released. This immense multi-tracked assemblage, entitled “No Epiphany” can be downloaded here. The 7? will come out this fall and contain two versions of the song entirely different from the album version linked above. The song features backing vocals by Cassie Ramone, Frankie Rose and Kickball Katy.
Fucked Up will be touring Canada and Europe this summer. Here are the latest tour dates: More...
Fucked Up Signs With Matador Records
Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up has signed a deal with Matador Records for the release of an EP titled "Year Of The Pig." Slated for worldwide release on July 22, the EP is an expanded version of the 12" single released by What's Your Rupture? in mid-2007. In addition to the original 18-minute title track and the song "The Black Hats," there are three edits of the title track and three unreleased tracks. Each edit and each unreleased track will be featured on one of three 7" singles, each with a different sleeve, to be released in the US, the UK, and Japan respectively. A CDep version will include all of the material.

Fucked Up To Release Holiday/Charity 7"
In honor of the season, Fucked Up has recorded a special festive single. The A-side features a brand new holiday themed song by Fucked Up. Clocking in at four minutes, this ripper is about the birth of our lord and savior: David Eliade and serves as a taste of what is to come on Fucked Up's forthcoming LP, "The Chemistry Of Common Life," that will see the light of day next year.
The B-side of the record boasts a very special Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa song which sees Fucked Up collaborating with:
James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem)
Cole (Black Lips)
Davey Havok (AFI)
Kevin Peterson (What's Your Rupture?)
Faris Rotter (The Horrors)
Mike Fellows (Rites Of Spring)
Matt Sweeney (Chavez/ Zwan)
Dave One (Chromeo)
Jacob Thiele (The Faint)
Morag and Ursula
Jay Reatard
Dan Romano (Attack In Black)
Trevor Keith (Face To Face)
Jason Green (Panthers/ Orchid)
Jerry A. (Poison Idea)
Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation)
Scott Vogel (Terror)
Nelly Furtado
This is not a joke. All of these people (willingly) participated in the recording of this song. This is probably the most bizarre collaboration that they have/ will ever do. The recording time for this record was generously donated by Chris Hegge of Audiolab Studios Toronto.
The record comes gift wrapped in special Fucked Up wrapping paper, graciously donated by Simone (sometime member of Fucked Up) of Punchclock and it will be limited (there is no way we are going to wrap too many of these).
All proceeds from the sale of this record will go directly to George Herman House, a transitional housing and life skills program that supports women who are living with mental health issues in Toronto.
