Metallica Hosting Orion Fest In June
Band Photo: Metallica (?)
Following several cryptic announcements on its Facebook page, Metallica went on live stream today to say that the band will be hosting its very own music fest this year in New Jersey. "Orion Fest," the name of the new music festival, will be hosted in Atlantic City on June 23rd and 24th.
The event will feature 22 artists, comedy and lifestyle elements. More than just music, the festival will also showcase the band's individual interests - and allow fans to interact directly with each of the band members. Orion Fest will be held at the decomissioned airstrip Bader Field and was chosen because of the equidistant nature of it from L.A. and Europe, and the proximity to Atlantic City lodging. Metallica plans to headline both nights, confirming the following acts for the festival already:
Arctic Monkeys
Avenged Sevenfold
Modest Mouse
The Gaslight Anthem
Cage the Elephant
Fucked Up
Best Coast
Hot Snakes
Titus Andronicus
Gary Clark Jr.
Lucero
Roky Erickson
The Black Angels
The Sword
A Place to Bury Strangers
Liturgy
Metallica will be playing the "Black" album in full one night and "Ride The Lightning" in full the next night. Visit the Orion Music site for more information.

T_A_G, the saddest thing is, you're probably right on the money - literally - with those figures.
Jigenuck post#3, Don't be so sure. I'd imagine that'll be the program for the first day, June 23rd.
All the bands will play a 20-minute set on June 24th, Metallica will be blasting the closing poop with a 3hour show.
"The event will feature 22 artists, comedy and lifestyle elements".
Well, looking at the line-up, the "comedy" element is covered.
As for "lifestyle", well you need to have a life first, no?
(yes: I am a bitter ex-fan, before you ask )
If they really wanted to get back to form they should've had other metal bands play as in newer ones and older ones. That would have been great. But my guess is that they didn't want to look like they were outplayed by the opening bands. At least Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax still stick to their metal roots.
You got to be a hardcore metallica fan to go to this.
Lets face it, this bill sucks.
It is like making a giant casserole smothered with cheese, its looks good on top, or on the outside, but once you dig into the middle, you taste the vienna sausage, the fritos, the glutten, and the bologna.
Idk if that makes any sense but it is my translation.
Why doesnt Metallica make this the Big Four Festival? with a bunch of amazing bands opening like Machine head,Trivium,Lamb of God etc instead of giving us the commerical side of it go back to their roots and back into Thrash Metal in the end they may loose the hipster kids but will regain some respect in the Hardcore Metal scene again...the only way I would ever go to this crap is if all they ever played was a classic throw back setlist everynight and if they had Slayer there.(My favorite of the big four)
booo..metallica invested their money on
this most commercial lineup...boring mtv garbage.
waht is next kesha , metallica , justin beiber lineup
to take masses of money from people that are
top 20 mtv obsessed..crap at its finest.
avoid this festival.......boring.
money money instead of good taste in music...how sad.
I wish one of them would just get a heart attack and die already.
I really just can't stand watching Metallica disgrace themselves anymore, it's depressing! What the hell are they thinking? "Hey guys, look, we're not old yet! See, we're still doing stuff!"
At least it seems like they're TRYING to appeal to their older fans with the setlist, but the line-up? Don't get me wrong, I love most of these bands... but they're NOT the kind of sh** I want to see at a Metallica concert. Modest Mouse? Cage the Elephant? Who was the dumbass who thought they would be good openers for Metallica?
...somewhat on the same topic, I saw Arctic Monkeys live a few years ago, and they destroyed. I wouldn't complain about seeing them again - they're so much heavier live. There was actually a mosh pit. Yes, a REAL mosh pit.

Metallica, The Sword, Liturgy and f***ed Up. That's all I'd want to see, and that would depend entirely if Metallica plays an old-school set like they did in 2009. But my best guess is that it won't be, as they're gonna stretch it out over two nights.
This basically seems like a self-worship convention for the band members. That's why they are keeping the quality opening bands down to a minimum.
"the festival will also showcase the band's individual interests - and allow fans to interact directly with each of the band members" ..........yeah, probably for an extra $150 per handshake, $250 per autograph and if you're a really big roller $500 gets you a 3 second bro-hug.
