Napalm Records Seeking Fan Feedback On Compilation
Napalm Records has issued the following announcement about seeking fan feedback on which songs to use for an upcoming 15 track sampler release:
"Due to the great feedback we received regarding the free & exclusive Facebook MP3 Compilation, we have decided to release a 'Volume 2' soon! We would like you to help us choose the track list for the 15-track sampler that will feature 'Napalm Records Classics.'
"We have put together a list of 50 possible 'classics' and started a poll on the official Napalm Records Facebook page! So become a fan and vote for your favorite classic track! The top 15 tracks will be included on the compilation, which will of course be free again and only available on our Facebook page!"
Bands appearing on the poll include Tyr, Tristania, Sirenia, Summoning, Korpiklaani, Leaves' Eyes, and more.

Leaves' Eyes Posts Sample Of New Album Title Track
Leaves' Eyes has posted a sample of the title track off the band's new album "Meredead." You can check out the track by heading over to the Leaves' Eyes MySpace page. Liv Kristine also commented on the song:
"Dear Leaves' Eyes fans, you can have a pre-listen to the title track 'Meredead' from the upcoming Leaves Eyes album, which will be out 22 April! Here comes the title track of our fourth full-length album! Firstly, let me explain the title, which is my own word-creation: To my grammatical knowledge, 'Meredead' could mean 'dead by the sea', 'or the deadly sea'. Poetically, we could add some imagination and lyrical sound and say 'Sea of Death.' Secondly, the word 'Meredead' sums up some of the themes rooted in my lyrics on the album.
"Now you may ask, why sing in Old-English? Since my Old-English studies I've taken great interest in both Old-English poetry and grammar. I just felt that this song required Old-English lyrics, and an Old-English 'sound,' moreover, it needed this historical feel! Old-English or Anglo-Saxon is an early form of the English language that was spoken and written by Angeln, Sachsen and Jüten (Germanic tribes, called Anglo-Saxons) and their descendants in parts of what are now England and southeastern Scotland between at least the mid-5th century and the mid-12th century. Although, for me, it meant digging my nose into my Old-English books for weeks (and buying even more at Amazon), I feel that it was really worth it, moreover, it made so much fun! For me, having Norwegian and Danish parents and grand-parents, it's even more interesting that from the 9th century, Old-English experienced heavy influence from Old Norse, a member of the related North Germanic group of languages.
"I highly recommend having a look at the book 'The Cambridge Old English Reader' by R. Marsden. PS: I was amazed that my dear friend and great inspiration in classical singing, Maite Itoiz (Elfenthal), managed to sing her Old-English parts straight away, without any phonetic explanations from me! Well done! Thank you, Maite!"

Digital download store Metalhit.com has launched the first of many future monthly compilations to be available for free download worldwide. Owner, Mike Riddick, comments:

Leaves' Eyes Comments On Song From New Album
Leaves' Eyes will be releasing the new album "Meredead" on April 22nd, 2011. The band has now posted a preview of the song "Kråkevisa" online, which can be heard through the band's MySpace page. Vocalist Liv Kristine commented on the track:
"Kråkevisa (The Crow Song), also called Mannen og Kråka (The Farmer and the Crow), is a traditional folklore in the genre Scandinavian medieval ballads. I know it from primary school as we used to sing it in the school's choir. There are different versions in Norway, which also uses other melodies. It is one of the best known folk tunes in my home country, however, it is also well-known in Sweden, Denmark and across the Faeroe Island. It's interesting that Kråkevisa is said to be related to 'Hákun Ríður Í Timburskóg', the Faeroese children's rhyme. Let me translate Kråkevisa's first verse; first the Norwegian version, then the English one: More...
Leaves' Eyes Posts New Album Trailer
Leaves' Eyes has posted a new trailer for the band's "Meredead" album, which can be viewed below. "Meredead" is set for release on April 22nd, 2011.
The band has also posted the new song "Sigrlinn" online, which can be heard through the Leaves' Eyes MySpace page. Liv Kristine also commented on the song:
"When Thorsten presented his first idea of this song, I immediately knew that it had to be sung in Norwegian. I chose 'nynorsk,' which is next to 'bokmaal,' one of two official Norwegian written standard languages in Norway. I chose the title "Sigrlinn" for one single reason: Phonetically, there is a 'sweet' and traditional sound to the name, which is perfect for my 'sung' poem. I would call it romantic poetry, written in dialogical form between the protagonists Sigrlinn and Sveinung, and the narrating choir or the narrating single voice. For Alex, it meant hard work to sing in Norwegian 'dialect' (both my sister Carmen (Midnattsol) and myself supervising him – poor Alex!).
"However, by the help of phonetic transcription he mastered this task perfectly! Even I had to get used to the thought of singing a complete lyrical piece in my mother tongue. I would say that it makes the song even more personal. It felt very important and comfortable to have my sister singing with me (Thank you, my dear Carmen!)! Thematically, my poem presents the married couple Sigrlinn and Sveinung, living by the fjord. Sveinung leaves his wife for the sake of bringing home more goods, which might be heroic, however, there is no happy end to his journey. Bad weather, the harsh mountainous landscape, Froeya and the three-headed troll play the decisive role to his fate."

Leaves' Eyes Comments On "Meredead" Album
Guitarist Thorsten Bauer of Leaves' Eyes has checked in with the following statement about the band's new album "Meredead:"
"I would like to take the chance to talk about two of the most epic, elaborate and distinct songs on our new album 'Meredead.' They were also among the most time intensive ones to write and record, since both have very long and unique song structures. They also feature many different natural sound sources like marching snares, choirs, orchestra, uilleann pipes, Irish whistles and mandolins. Recording such songs is always a big challenge and excitement at the same time. And I hope that you will hear the passion, hard work and dedication that we put into these songs.
"Spirits' Masquerade: The doomy start of that song with its' dynamic choirs and marching snare drums would just be the perfect soundtrack to march into war. At the same time the song comes along in an unusual time signature with heavy and almost 'proggy' staccato guitars, like on Njords 'Ragnarok.' The Uilleann pipes and the mandoline both set a short moment of hope, before the band jumps into the very heavy verse and chorus to bring back an atmosphere of doom. I like very much how Livs voice is supporting the dynamics and dramatic of the song and also the way she is singing along with the choir, pretty unique. Just when you think the end of the song and total doom has come, a whole new world opens. Irish whistles, Livs voice and later the choir put you somewhere on the green island of Ireland. The dynamic range of the song is really mind blowing and I get goosebumps in that song part every time I hear it, before the song is building up again towards a massive and epic final. Yes, I always liked the endings of old Manowar songs like 'Battle hymns' and 'Black Wind, Fire and Steel.' Epic Metal! More...
Leaves' Eyes To Release "Melusine" EP
On the 19th of April 2011 the new May edition of Sonic Seducer magazine will be out including a special musical highlight: the exclusive 5 track "Melusine" EP from Leaves' Eyes.
The "Melusine" EP contains exclusive tracks and versions of songs which have not been released in this form previously. Leaves' Eyes To Play Heilig's Blechle Open Air
Leaves' Eyes has issued the following announcement about performing at the upcoming Heilig's Blechle Open Air festival:
"The South Rocks! This is the motto of the Heilig's Blechle Open Air which will start its' first round. The event provides a mixture of metal, rock and gothic music. The location, an airfield near Stuttgart, offers an easy access and camping on the site.
"On Friday there will be a warm-up show in Renningen with acts like Watch Me Bleed. On Saturday there will be: Morphosys (Death Metal), Necroid (Death Metal), St'. Zion (Alternative/ Metal), Breschdleng (Hardcore), Loaders (Metal), Leaves Eyes (Symphonic Gothic Metal), Undertow (Dark /Metal /Thrash) and Atrocity (Death / Gothic Metal) as the headliner."
