Trivium was formed in 2000 in Altamonte Springs Florida - Travis Smith, Matt Heafy and two other band mates met at Travis's house to learn and cover "For Whom the Bell Tolls" for his high school's Battle of the Bands competition. Even though they were inexperienced, they quickly formulated a band - the aggression of Trivium was popular among the high school crowd. Shortly after the Battle of the Bands show Trivium performed in a local music contest, Indiefest, taking 2nd place overall. After a couple local party gigs, Trivium's original singer left the band.

It was decided that Matt would take on the lead vocal duties as well as being the lead & rhythm guitarist and a search was underway for a rhythm guitarist. An old band mate of Travis', Brent Young earned the spot. With the new line up, Trivium played several garage gigs, party gigs, small clubs, and high school level competitions, gaining experience and writing more original songs. Soon, Trivium headed into a local studio to record a three-song demo.

Brent eventually moved to bass after Trivium's bassist departed.

Trivium's fan base began to grow, the band began to receive more local buzz and awards. Carrying a full set of originals, Trivium tore up club after club during the summer, opened for national acts - placed 1st for Battle of the Bands in high school and Matt was awarded The Best Metal Guitarist Award for 2002 presented by The Orlando Metal Awards.

Trivium recorded four more originals for their next demo. After this demo was recorded the musical direction of the band changed to something that the band and critics categorize as Melodic Death Metalcore. After one more 7-song demo EP, LifeForce records from Germany signed the band in May of 2003 and the band released 'Ember To Inferno' before adding second guitarist Corey Beaulieu and joining Roadrunner in April 2004.

Trivium Reveals New Drummer

Florida based heavy metal outfit Trivium has announced that their long time friend Nick Augusto has been hired as the permanent replacement for former drummer Travis Smith. A statement from frontman Matt Heafy reads:

"We’re really happy to have our good friend and fellow Floridian Nick Augusto join the Trivium family. Nick’s drumming is very technical and diverse and he brings a real intense energy to the band and we can’t wait for everyone to hear the new song, ‘Shattering the Skies Above', that we just recorded with Nick. I think it’s the best Trivium recording we’ve ever done; it’s raw, full of energy and I think Nick’s drumming really pushed us to a new level." More...

Trivium Completes Recording New Song

Guitarist Corey Beaulieu of the metal band Trivium has issued the following update:

"Hey everyone just a quick update. Shattering the skies above is complete and Mark Lewis begins mixing shattering and our cover we did of Sepultura's slave new world tomorrow! We are all super stoked on how the song turned out. Be the first trivium song we have ever done that Matt, Paolo and myself did vocals on, we really wanted to do the song the way we will play it live and it really brings out a new dynamic that we have never had before and we are really stoked that we finally got to give it a shot. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can get the song up for everyone to check out. Everyone that has asked yes we will be playing Shattering the skies above at all our upcoming tour dates!"

Whitechapel Joins Forces With Trivium

Whitechapel will spend this fall bringing their energetic live show to fans across the US with metal heavy weights, Trivium, on their headlining tour. The band has been opening the festivities on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem fest as the opening act on the Hot Topic stage alongside label mates Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, and more.

Whitechapel comments: "Mayhem is going amazing so far, we couldn't have asked for a better line up of bands to be touring with and better crowd responses. Fans are going off across the U.S. in every city and we are loving it. It's definitely the best tour we have ever done and are going to be super bummed when it's over!

When we got the offer for these dates with Trivium we were really excited. We've been hanging out with the Trivium dudes on Mayhem and have been having a blast, so naturally the good times will continue on with this upcoming tour. It's a perfect opportunity for us to deliver the same pummeling live show we gave these fans at Mayhem in a smaller more intimate club setting."

Trivium Announces North American Tour

Trivium has announced an upcoming North American tour titled "Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour." Supporting acts will include Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, and Dirge Within.

Trivium’s Matt Heafy has this to comment about the tour: “North American headline tour... we meet again. It's been far too long since we've toured North America as a headliner and we're back with a vengeance. It's our time to come in for the final waves of 'Shogun' touring and party with our friends in the USA and Canada. Our live show, without a doubt in my mind, is now the strongest it has ever been; our sets are more diverse, tighter than ever and we've got some of the sickest current metal bands out with us to bring you one hell of a tour. This very well could be the last one for a while, so let's do this in style... we'll see you soon."
