Universal Confirms New GNR Album Is On The Way
GN'RDaily.com, The GUNS N' ROSES Newswire is reporting:
Chinese Democracy has now entered the public lexicon as ‘promise that never delivers’, but in November Guns N’ Roses will finally drop its embattled sixth album. FasterLouderFasterLouder has received confirmation from Universal Music Australia that it is indeed on its way, although an exact release date has not been set.
The (multi)-million dollar question, though, is will it be worth the wait? Chinese Democracy certainly has a cracking back-story. Axl Rose began work on the album way back in 1994, allegedly chalking up more than $13 million in production costs along the way. A long list of executives and producers has been called in to steer Rose towards completion, but the frontman has been distracted by lengthy lawsuits and personal upsets. The album has been so shrouded in secrecy that an American blogger who leaked some of its tracks in August was arrested and charged.

Morello And Slash To Guest On Cypress Hill Album
Billboard.com reports: With his first solo album just out, rapper Sen Dog is looking forward to new projects with his group concerns.
The MC, who released “Diary of a Mad Dog” this week and plans to do some touring soon to promote the album, tells Billboard.com that CYPRESS HILL is “in the process” of making a new album, which will be the follow-up to 2004’s “Till Death Do Us Part.” “We’ve got 30 songs done,” says Sen Dog, who describes the album as “definitely hard-core hip-hop. I wouldn’t say it’s overly hardcore, but it’s definitely a hip-hop album.”
The set will include writing and production collaborations with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello on a track called “Rise Up” and with LINKIN PARK’s Mike Shinoda on another song. GUNS N’ ROSES/VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash, meanwhile, plays on a tune called “Front Line.” But Sen Dog (real name Serien Reyes) says the final guest list will be relatively small. More...
Slash Reveals Solo Album Details
Velvet Revolver and former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash has revealed that he has demoed 14 songs for his forthcoming solo album.
He told NME Radio that he has recruited a slew of singers to appear on the album, but would not reveal who he has enlisted yet.
He added that he wasn't sure whether the album would be released before the next Velvet Revolver album. The band are currently in the process of recruiting a new singer, following the departure of Scott Weiland earlier this year.
"I've been carrying a tape recorder with me on the Velvet Revolver tour and putting down ideas," Slash explained. "When I got back from the UK at the beginning of the summer listened to what was cool on them, then elaborated and came up with new stuff."
The guitarist is set to release a series of new guitars, the Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul Goldtop range, on October 7.
Best Buy Gets "Chinese Democracy" Retail Exclusive
Best Buy is set to be the exclusive retailer for Guns N' Roses decade-plus-in-the-making new album "Chinese Democracy" before year's end, sources close to the situation tell Billboard. Some details of the deal are still being worked out, including the release date.
The news brings a semblance of closure to the bizarre history of "Democracy," which Guns N' Roses has been working on since the mid-1990s. Since then, every original member of the once mighty group has left besides vocalist Axl Rose, and millions of dollars have been spent working on the new material.
"Chinese Democracy" was most recently on the Interscope release schedule in March 2007. The endless delays encountered by the project reached comic levels this spring, when soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.
In June, nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from the album were leaked online, prompting an FBI investigation into their source. A sign "Chinese Democracy" was perhaps finally nearing release came in July, when the band agreed to debut new track "Shackler's Revenge" in the video game "Rock Band 2," which hit stores earlier this month.
Guns N' Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart in 2007, much to the chagrin of other merchants, but the album was a runaway hit, having sold 3.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Slash Talks About "Reckless Road: Guns N Roses..."
ARTISTdirect caught up with legendary Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver axeman Slash for an in-depth interview session regarding the release of "Reckless Road: Guns N' Roses and the Making of Appetite for Destruction." Find out first-hand from Slash how the new release promises to bring fans closer to his music, his guitar vision for the kiddies, and more.
Here's an excerpt of the interview:
Interviewer: As a musician, you've always had that '70s maverick aesthetic. There was a sense in the '70s that anything was possible artistically, and that boundless mentality is inherent in your playing. Do you think that this clinic will promote that vibe?
Slash: "Maverick aesthetic," that's heavy! Anyway, that's the thing. There's really not that much to talk about when it comes to that. I'm playing a hell of a lot these days. Even when I really pay attention to what I'm doing, there is no real rhyme or reason to why and how I do it. It's just what I go for and what I try to accomplish from what I'm hearing in my head or whatever. I don't have a systematic approach or a methodical, conceptual idea as to how it should be done, so it's sort of ambiguous [Laughs].

According to an arrest affidavit, Cogill admitted to agents that he posted the songs on his web site.

Ex-Guns N Roses Drummer Claims Innocence
According to Chris Harris from MTV.com, fidgeting, sniffling and wiping tears from his eyes, Steven Adler, who was GUNS N' ROSES' drummer for five years before being fired in 1990, pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning (August 20) to drug charges. He was ordered by a judge to remain in drug rehabilitation at the Pasadena Recovery Center in Pasadena, California, for at least the next month.
According to The Associated Press, Adler went before a judge in Los Angeles Superior Court with a friend and therapist by his side. The judge instructed the rocker to continue with his rehab as he awaits a preliminary hearing on a felony drug-possession count and a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of drugs. Adler was arrested last month after police were called to a Los Angeles home, which Adler allegedly refused to leave and was creating a disturbance. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
New Guns N Roses Album To Be Retail Exclusive?
Blabbermouth.net reports: Ed Christman of Billboard.com reports that negotiations are underway for GUNS N' ROSES' long-delayed "Chinese Democracy" to come out as an exclusive at one of the big boxes — either Wal-Mart or Best Buy.
Negotiations are also ongoing to have conventional record company distribution, a source tells Billboard.com.
GUNS N' ROSES is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released THE EAGLES' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart, much to the chagrin of other merchants.
Gilby Clarke Talks Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp, GNR
Jason Price of Live-Metal.Net recently got a chance to sit down with Gilby Clarke to discuss musical roots, his upcoming musical endeavors, his new role as a "Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp Counselor" and even a little Chinese Democracy. Here are some excerpts:
On Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp:
Live-Metal.Net: Currently you are on tour as a counselor for the Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp, how did you become involved with the program?
Gilby Clarke: Actually a bunch of my friends have always been a part of it. Teddy Andreadis who used to play keyboards for Guns N' Roses, and Bruce Kulick have done it. Whenever they talk about it they always have great things to say about it and how it not only gives back to people who aren't professional musicians and the way it gives back to the musicians themselves. They get a sense of accomplishment working with people. I went down to Los Angeles to audition and I had a great time! I thought that the people were really fun and I just really enjoyed the whole process.
Live-Metal.Net: I would imagine that having experience on the production side of things probably lends itself pretty well to this project by putting all your expertise to work in a classroom setting.
Gilby Clarke: Yeah it definitely is a good experience for everyone involved.
Live-Metal.Net: What are you looking forward to the most about the Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp tour?
Gilby Clarke: It is mostly about just talking to people. As a musician, you surround yourself with other musicians, so it is very easy to lose touch. What is really great about this is that you are one-on-one with people and get to hear what they are inspired by. I have never been one of those musicians that follows a trend. It always bothers me when I hear other artists saying "Do this for the fans. Give them what they want." I just don't think that is really an artist. Being an artist is creating something original and you get fans from that. So it is always nice to get a little feedback, some honest feedback. That is another thing that is really great about this.
On the Future of Supernova:
Live-Metal.Net: Rock Star Supernova reunited back in May of 2008 for a benefit. Is there any chance we might see you all back together again sometime soon?
Gilby Clarke: It is kind of funny because we never officially pulled the plug on it. It was a project and Tommy (Lee) and I will always be friends. I just don't think it is anyone's priority at this point. I think we gave it our best shot and there were some things that were successful about it and some things that weren't. I don't think it will ever really go away but over time we may forget about it. At this point, you never really know what will come up.
On Chinese Democracy:
Live-Metal.Net: I have a habit of throwing this one in here. When do you think that Chinese Democracy will be released?
Gilby Clarke: There was point there, I have to tell you, that I was absolutely sure it was coming out but at this point I have no idea. I am just like every other person and I am a fan of GNR's music but I have no idea. I have heard a couple songs just like everybody else and I am just as curious as everybody else. I am really curious to see what kind of music you break up a really good band for.
Live-Metal.Net: Is there anything else you want to add?
Gilby Clarke: I think that is about it. I think there is a really interesting vibe right now, we just have to be patient and hopefully we will get some good records out of it.

Guns N Roses To Re-Issue Debut Album On Vinyl
The GUNS N' ROSES Newswire reports:
Universal Music are re-releasing Guns N' Roses' classic debut album Appetite For Destruction on vinyl. The LP is due on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 and the cover features the controversial original artwork by Robert Williams.
Go to CD Universe to place your order today and be one of the first to receive this product when it arrives.
Product Description:
Already a legend in its own meagre lifetime, this startling debut shrouded itself in controversy, from its original Robert Williams artwork to Axl Rose's unblinking accounts of LA's underbelly. This mawkish storytelling, combined with a brattish collective swagger and a surprisingly mature approach to their songs, guaranteed Guns N' Roses a speedy notoriety that was to serve their legend brilliantly. From the laconic 'Paradise City' to the achingly beautiful 'Sweet Child O' Mine', or the furious 'Welcome To The Jungle', the record brims with a brutal integrity. An album they could never surpass even if they had stayed together.
Guns N Roses Guitar Hero On The Way?
GNRDaily.com has issued the following report:
"Famous rockers such as GUNS N' ROSES and VAN HALEN are said to be fleshing out deals to capitalise on the popularity of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
That's according to Front Line Managemet boss Irving Azoff, who was speaking to the Wall Street Journal. Those groups, alongside others such as THE EAGLES and STEELY DAN, "all have deals of varying types in the works with one or the other or both of these companies" said Azoff, referring to Activision and MTV.
The Front Line music label has Aerosmith among others on its books.
The reason Azoff believes videogames deals are becoming so popular is money. "[They] can be much more lucrative than anything you can do in the record business," he said.

Ex-Guns N Roses Drummer Steve Adler Arrested
According to a report at TMZ.com, "Former GUNS N' ROSES drummer STEVEN ADLER was arrested early this morning (Friday, July 18th) in Hollywood for possession of narcotics, being under the influence and an outstanding warrant.
Adler is still in police custody.
Earlier this month, the 43-year-old rocker told a radio station he was planning on being part of the cast of Sober Living, a spin-off of VH1's Celebrity Rehab.
The warrant stems from a 2005 case where Adler was charged for being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license. He then sealed his fate by missing a court date in April of 2006."

Guns N Roses To Release New Song In September
The following is courtesy of Robert Levine and The New York Times:
A decade and a half after releasing its previous album, GUNS N’ ROSES plans to put out a new song in September — on the video game Rock Band 2. MTV expects to announce on Monday (July 14th) that the sequel to its popular Rock Band game will include 'Shackler’s Revenge', a track from the Guns N’ Roses album that has been in the works for more than a decade, said people familiar with the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrangement has yet to be announced.
The inclusion of the song on a game suggests that the Guns N’ Roses album, Chinese Democracy, will come out this fall, after years of delays. Axl Rose, who has selected replacements for the other original members, has said that the album is finished, but a release date has not been announced.
MTV and Universal Music Group, Guns N’ Roses’ label, declined to comment on the deal.

Sebastian Bach Nixes Velvet Revolver Rumors
Billboard.com reports: Sebastian Bach has plenty of musical activity on his plate -- but joining Velvet Revolver is not part of the mix.
The former Skid Row singer, who was among the early names rumored to be taking Scott Weiland's place, told Billboard.com that his close friendship with Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose -- who sang on three tracks on Bach's 2007 solo album, "Angel Down" -- and a focus on his own music would making joining Velvet Revolver "awkward" at best.
But he did confirm that Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash did contact him "out of the blue ... to talk to me about working together, but it was not Velvet Revolver. It was a completely different project, and I can't tell you what it is 'cause it's mind-blowing, but I've been sworn to secrecy on that. But nothing's happening right now with me and him."

Purported New Guns N' Roses Tracks Hit The Web
Billbaord.com reports: Nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from Guns N' Roses' 14-years-in-the-making album "Chinese Democracy" were leaked online yesterday, June 18, by the Web site Antiquiet.com, prompting a quick cease-and-desist from the band's handlers and the removal of the links.
Six of the songs have already leaked in one unfinished form or another, including "Better," "The Blues," the title track, "Madagascar," "IRS," and "There Was a Time." These newer versions appear to be much further along on the path toward completion, and feature new touches like organ and tambourine on "IRS" and a beefed-up chorus with multi-tracked vocals on "Madagascar."
The three previously unheard songs are "Rhiad and the Bedouins," "If the World" and a track whose title is unknown.
