Black Label Society To Play Ozzfest 2006

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY booking agent Troy Blakely at APA has told Billboard magazine that the band will be taking part in this summer's Ozzfest before doing additional North American dates in the fall. "We don't know how we're going to do it yet or who we're going to be out with, but that's the plan, we're going to be back here in the fall headlining," he said.

This year BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will tour overseas for most of the spring and early summer. The band is booked in Europe by Nigel Kerr at APS and in South America by Bill Monot at Paradise Artists.

"For the first time this year, we're going to South America, for 16 headlining shows in 3,000-capacity-plus [venues]," BLACK LABEL SOCIETY manager Bob Ringe told Billboard. "We're going to Australia for the first time this year — eight shows in May, 3,000-capacity-plus. And we're doing a headlining European tour from May 23 until the first of July."

Blakely calls BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde "one of the hardest workers I've ever seen in the music business, period, and I've been doing this about 32 years."

Wylde's work ethic impressed Blakely early on. "He's working 24 hours a day, not just when he's onstage," Blakely said. "He's either writing material for himself or for OZZY OSBOURNE, working on other projects he's involved with, designing guitars or whatever else he's doing."

On the road, Wylde and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY are rock-solid at the box office. "we did two tours in 2005," Ringe noted. "The spring tour we did 97.6% capacity, and the fall tour we headlined 3,000-plus seaters."

According to Blakely, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's fan base is very loyal. "That's one of the things I noticed a couple of years ago when I had JUDAS PRIEST on Ozzfest," he said. "I saw this fan base that Zakk has. There are chapters in each city that are very, very loyal fans, that come out for Zakk and bring other people and spread the word about what Zakk and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY are up to. I've never seen anything quite like that before."

As previously reported, Zakk Wylde is expected to write, record and tour with Ozzy in 2006 and beyond. This was announced after apparent scheduling conflicts with Wylde and subsequent auditions for Ozzy's replacement for Zakk.

Ozzy Osbourne To Continue Working With Zakk Wylde

A representative for Ozzy Osbourne has issued the following statement regarding Ozzy's previously announced guitarisst search:

"Ozzy would like to thank everyone who took the time to send in submissions to be his new guitar player. At the time we announced the search, Zakk Wylde's itinerary with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY was quite overwhelming. Fortunately, Zakk has now been able to go back and rearrange his schedule to make sure that he would be available to write, record and tour with Ozzy in 2006 and beyond. Therefore, the search for a new axe man has been called off. We sincerely apologize to all of the talented musicians (and there were lots of them) who were excited by this incredible opportunity and we wish you the best of luck with all of your future musical endeavors."

Ozzy Doesn't Want To Put Out Another Sabbath Album

ContactMusic.com is reporting that Ozzy Osbourne has ruled out a reunion album with BLACK SABBATH, because he doesn't want to tarnish their reputation.

Despite being happy to play with them in one-off live gigs, Osbourne, whose last BLACK SABBATH studio album was in 1978, refuses to return to the studio with his former bandmates.

Ozzy is terrified a new record would not match the standard of previous releases, including "Paranoid" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath".

He says, "I love the guys and we had fun and all became friendly again. But it's time to move on.

"I don't want to make another SABBATH album, not if it's not up to scratch. I could put any old b**locks out and it would probably sell.

"But what's the point in demolishing such a great thing?"

Vicious Rumors All-Star Lineup For CD and Tour

Vicious Rumors, are in the studio recording their 9th studio album scheduled for release in May 06. Laying down the tracks on this release will be an all-star, veteran lineup: Geoff Thorpe (guitars), Brad Gillis (guitars), James Rivera (vocals), Dave Starr (bass) and Larry Howe (drums).

Brad Gillis (Ozzy, Night Ranger) returns to metal with Vicious Rumors for their new cd and tour. Brad entered the metal scene in 1982, stepping up to replace the late, great, Randy Rhoades on Ozzy’s “Diary of a Madman” tour. Brad left Ozzy following his electrifying performance on “Speak of the Devil – Live” and went on to multi-platinum success with Night Ranger. There is no doubt that Brad’s guitar work is sure to be a formidable addition to the VR guitar assault.

James Rivera (Helstar, Flotsam & Jetsam, Seven Witches) brings a true metal spirit to Vicious Rumors. With his powerful and dynamic voice, James has recorded and toured with many legendary metal outfits and now finds a new home in VR for their 2006 release and tour.

Dave Starr, VR’s original bass player, has rejoined the band. Dave performed on VR’s earliest releases including, “Soldiers of the Night”, “Vicious Rumors” self-titled album, “Welcome to the Ball” and “Plug in and Hang On – Live”. With Dave’s return, the band is now 3 original members strong reforming the very nucleus that originated VR’s classic style and sound.

“This is truly a very exciting time for VR. The chemistry between the five of us is very wicked!” says band founder, Geoff Thorpe.

Vicious Rumors is planning a worldwide tour in support of their new CD following its release this spring.

Black Sabbath To Finally Get Hall of Fame Nod

Heavy metal godfathers, BLACK SABBATH will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (after being nominated eight times) during the institution's 21st annual ceremony on March 13th in New York City. Other bands being inducted during the ceremony include the SEX PISTOLS and LYNYRD SKYNYRD.

In 1999, SABBATH frontman OZZY OSBOURNE sent the Hall a letter which sums up the Hall's importance:

"Just take our name off the list. Save the ink. Forget about us. The nomination is meaningless, because it's not voted on by the fans. It's voted on by the supposed elite for the industry and the media, who've never bought an album or concert ticket in their lives, so their vote is irrelevant to me. Let's face it, BLACK SABBATH has never been media darlings. We're a people's band and that suits us just fine."

Metal Music, Devil Worship Blamed In Teen's Murder

Imran Ali of the Trinidad & Tobago Express is reporting that heavy metal music is being blamed for sucking a young man into a world of devil worship and drug use and is being mounted as a defense in his trial for murdering his teenaged cousin.

Though two men, 21-year-old Osei Lazare and 28-year-old Marcus Daniel, are charged with the death of 16-year-old Suzette Gibson, the focus of the first day of the trial immediately shifted to Daniel yesterday (Wednesday, Nov. 23) when the claim was made by his lawyer, Pamela Elder SC.

Several witnesses admitted to her that her client — who was Gibson's cousin — regularly listened to heavy metal music, that his bedroom was decorated with skeletons and that he drank heavily.

Daniel's music collection and tattoos came under scrutiny.

One witness said Daniel listened to artists such as shock rockers MARILYN MANSON, OZZY OSBOURNE, ALICE COOPER and other metal bands such as SLIPKNOT and ANTHRAX.

He also had the tattoo of an upside down cross on one arm — which Elder called the symbol of the Antichrist.

Daniel's friend, Riaz Ali told the jury: "I recall the lyrics of one song. It went 'Devil man, devil man, you got in my head, devil man, devil man... right in my heart.'"

Ozzy Slams Sharon's TV Show, "X Factor"

Ozzy Slams Sharon's TV Show

Sky.com is reporting that Ozzy Osbourne has taken a sideswipe at his wife Sharon's U.K. TV talent show "X Factor" saying it's "killing music" and it traumatizes its contestants.

The shaggy-haired former hellraiser was making an appearance on radio station Planet Rock when he decided to speak his mind.

"They never go anywhere," Ozzy said of the show's winners. "Look at that Steve from last year. I think he's back doing the pub circuit."

But after that put-down for 2004 champ Steve Brookstein, Ozzy was back with more ranting.

"'X Factor' is one big theatre, it's turning music into WWF," he went on.

"It's about killing music to make light entertainment. It should be about music and talent but it's not."

However, he does have some sympathy for the wannabes.

"It's all fine and dandy, I'm all for it if they enjoy it. But it's got to have some effect on them if they end up not pursuing a musical career and going back to the same milkman job or window cleaning job."

Ozzy Osbourne Speaks About Iron Maiden Sabotage

In reference to the incident occurred on August 20 in San Bernardino, California, Launch Radio Networks reports that Ozzy wasn't exactly sure what happened that night, and wanted nothing to do with it either way. "I had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with what went down, because I do not condone any of that kind of crap," he said. "Even though the singer was saying bad things, so I heard, I never heard it 'cause I'd never went and seen them. But that very night, the bass player (Steve Harris) comes into my dressing room and said to me, 'I'd like to apologize for our singer.' I was absolutely confused what this guy was on about."

Sharon Osbourne messed with MAIDEN's sound and had the band pelted with eggs onstage after claiming that lead singer Bruce Dickinson had made disparaging remarks about her husband throughout the tour. Sharon is apparently unrepentant about her attempt to sabotage IRON MAIDEN's last appearance on this past summer's edition of the festival.

Sharon Osbourne Talks More Trash About Dickinson

ContactMusic.com is reporting that music matriarch Sharon Osbourne is a fan of heavy rockers IRON MAIDEN despite sabotaging the band's performance at the climax of her husband Ozzy's Ozzfest tour this summer.

MAIDEN were pelted with debris by fans when Sharon allowed sound problems to wreck their set in California on August 20. The group's manager, Rod Smallwood, then lashed out at the unprofessional conduct of Sharon and her fellow Ozzfest organisers.

Despite admitting she hates Dickinson, Sharon insists she still has plenty of respect for his bandmates Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers and Nicko McBrain.

Sharon tells British gay magazine Attitude for its November 2005 issue, "The band are actually really nice guys, but the singer has a chip on his shoulder.

"The bottom line is, it's not my fault that his solo records are shit. Don't be jealous of what Ozzy does.

"He never once thanked us for the tour. People don't behave like that.

"I tell you, though. This guy got the singer with a fucking egg right in the middle of his brow — what a star!"

Nugent: "Sharon Osbourne Should Be Slapped Silly"

ContactMusic.com is reporting that outspoken rocker Ted Nugent is defending controversial comments he made about reality TV family the Osbournes, insisting Sharon Osbourne should be held accountable for celebrating domestic chaos.

Nugent touched a nerve when he slammed the Osbournes for presenting the worst of family life on TV.

But, despite criticism and comeback from Osbourne herself, Nugent is refusing to back down.

He says, "I was condemning the celebration of chaos, the celebration of anti-parenting.

"I think it's absolutely an indictment to the soullessness of our society when we can find humour or something entertaining about a family that has no discipline, that celebrates crime and smoking dope and getting drunk. I think it's absolutely putrid."

And he repeats his belief that Osbourne is a terrible mum and wife: "I don't think she's on top of squat except the bank account for her husband, that she takes advantage of. I think she oughta be slapped silly... She should be put in her place."
