Withered To Release New Album In June

Tortured blackened death masters Withered will release their new full-length, "Verloren," on June 25 via Season of Mist Underground Activists! The devastating first single, "By Tooth in Tongue," is available now along with an intense and disturbing music video accompaniment, which was created by Guilherme Henriques. Listen and watch below!

The band states: "'By Tooth In Tongue' addresses the designed oppression/control this existence imposes upon each of us to encourage conformity. How the raw nature you gift yourself when plucked from the abyss is suppressed and going to the lengths required to honor your true self and release it into the world.

"We hope you enjoy it. as with any new music from us, there are plenty of twists/turns and new stylings introduced."

With an impressive body of work fanned out over the course of 18 years and five albums which have weathered as many trends, Withered continues to confound and refuses to compromise. New album "Verloren" is the Atlanta quartet's most daring and iconoclastic work yet, one that spits in the eye of complacency and exists as a contrarian masterstroke.

"Verloren" translates to "missing" from German and demonstrates a topical uniqueness; one that discusses the stuff everyone from the steeliest of black metal cape wearers to the gore-obsessed death metal crushers and everyone playing in a band or not has had to - or will have to - confront at some point. By leveling the elitist playing field so often found in extreme metal underground attitudes, "Verloren" offers a more holistic experience, elevating Withered by being unafraid to discuss topics that fly in the face of what most would connect to the sounds they make.

Tracklisting:

1. By Tooth In Tongue
2. The Predation
3. Dissolve
4. Casting In Wait
5. Passing Through…
6. ...The Long Hurt
7. Verloren
8. From Ashen Shores More...

Withered Premieres New Lyric Video

Atlanta's Withered premieres a new lyric video for "To Glimpse Godliness", taken from the band's 2016 album "Grief Relic". Explains Withered:

"The lyrics are a continuation from ‘Distort, Engulf’ (Grief Relic). These songs pair up to illustrate becoming overwhelmed by the frustration with the mortal limitations of human existence. It ponders your willingness to cast off this physical existence and achieve an aethereal sense of timelessness & limitlessness. To perceive the universe as a blank nothingness from a lone, single consciousness is to glimpse godliness."

Rescheduling many of the original dates and visiting some new cities on this outing is affording us the opportunity to develop a more thorough set list, and give much more anticipation to embracing the cold & harshness of the winter. Many of these cities we haven’t visited in nearly 5 years so this tour is announced with tremendous anticipation from us. We’re also very excited that our friends, Immortal Bird, agreed to join us on this one.” More...

Withered Reveals New Album Details

Atlanta death metal band Withered today details forthcoming new album "Grief Relic," which will be released by Season of Mist worldwide on May 27th and pre-orders are available here.

Withered has also released the first new track from "Grief Relic" - listen in to "Husk" via the player below. Regarding the track, Withered guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson tells Decibel Magazine:

"Having been 5 years since our last release, we felt the need to do something very intentional with 'Grief Relic.' You know that sense of timelessness you get when you go back and listen to some 20 year old metal record and it’s just as relevant now as it ever was? It’s not really about nostalgia and definitely not about rehashing anything. Just the need to continue carving out a sonic identity like the great bands of the late 80’s and early 90’s.

"We focused on song arrangements and an album structure that would offer a real emotional experience and, of course, we loaded every song with a lot of typical Withered twists and turns. It’s progress for the sake of progress without abandoning our identity. ‘Husk’ was the first song we wrote for this album and it does a pretty good job of highlighting the kind of style traversing that can be expected from 'Grief Relic.'" Withered Signs With Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of American dark extremists Withered, with a new full-length due out in 2016. Regarding the signing, Withered comments:

"We are proud to work with a label like Season of Mist, which is truly committed to supporting extreme metal. WITHERED's character and passion will be well represented by the Season of Mist team. After three years of evolution, our breath has deepened to fuel our musical exploration, and our growth, past the most brutal of expectations. We'll see YOU on tour soon!"

Withered was formed by Mike Thompson and Chris Freeman in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003 when their long running crust/grind band Social Infestation went on an indefinite hiatus. Moving away from social awareness, the duo turned to explore the vastness of humanity's capacity for suffering. Wes Kever (Puaka Balava) was recruited on drums and Greg Hess (Leech Milk) on bass.

The band released an untitled 3-song demo and immediately began touring the Eastern U.S. followed by debut album "Memento Mori" in late 2005. Wes and Greg left on good terms and were replaced by local musicians Mike Longoria and Beau Brandon (Waited).

After more touring, sophomore full-length "Folie Circulaire" came out in 2008, entering darker realms by combining Scandinavian black and death metal elements with the crust/grind heritage. Dylan Kilgore (Waited) stepped in for Chris Freeman, who could not proceed with the band's heavy touring schedule. More...
