This is the first time a fest like this has happened in RVA to my knowledge. One of our biggest goals with this beast of a fest is to keep it DIY. We want to do it yearly and I'm hoping you can all help it grow. If you come and show your support for your friends, the music, the bands, winter, whatever... I'm considering everyone involved in the first year to be the OG's of the fest!"
TOMBS will be heading down to Richmond, Virginia to play the Heart of Winter Fest, a DIY Doom/Black metal fest arranged by Elway from Bastard Sapling/Celebrity Murders. The festival takes place from December 18th through December 20th, 2008. You can get more information about the festival here.

Seattle’s BOOK OF BLACK EARTH has posted a new song, "Funeral of Peace," from the band’s forthcoming album on the band's MySpace page. Due out Oct. 14 through Prosthetic Records, "Horoskopus" is BOOK OF BLACK EARTH’s second full-length, and debut for new home Prosthetic Records. Pre-orders have also begun for the album on both vinyl and CD editions here.
"'Horoskopus' is a concept album about the hidden astrological elements of the Christian church," vocalist / guitarist T.J. Cowgill adds. "From its origins as a state sponsored religion in the fourth century to the present day, it has been guided by astrological concepts conceived centuries before Jesus Christ was mythologized as the 'Sun' of God."
BOOK OF BLACK EARTH consists of members of venerable metal underground band Teen Cthulhu, as well as drummer Joe Axler of Skarp, Splatterhouse, and Iamthethorn, among others. Having already released a self-financed demo in 2004 and a split release with underground legends Fall Of The Bastards in 2005, 2006’s "The Feast," received praise from Decibel magazine, Terrorizer magazine, and the band’s hometown newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Meanwhile the band is gearing up for the Black Metal Magic tour, featuring Swedish black metal legends Watain and new labelmates Withered, including a string of headlining dates on the way out to the first date, Oct. 3 in Toronto.
BOOK OF BLACK EARTH will also be in-studio co-hosting with the KISW Metal Shop hosts, Steve Rock and Kevin, in Seattle this Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11pm – 2am. Fans can find more information on KISW.com, including the chance to stream the broadcast live over the internet, or locally tune their dials to 99.9 FM.

Sweden's Watain issues the following update:
"Hark in woe, infidels! One and a half year after their triumphant display of magic and death upon North American, Watain shall now return to those lands on a headliner tour. Due to the strict prohibitions of anything Satanic and Criminal passing over the border to USA, a lot of compromises had to be made on the last US tour regarding both members and stage-show. This time however, the full artillery shall be brought across the sea, in all it's terrible glory."
The first date is on October 3rd and after that the wolves shall storm from Canada through USA on what shall constitute the last part of the monstrous crusade that has been the "Fuck the World Tour." More...

Atlanta’s WITHERED have completed work on the band’s forthcoming record, ‘Folie Circulaire,’ which will see a June 24 release through Prosthetic Records.
“Our new record is officially completed and we're very satisfied,” the band says. “Thanks to everyone involved, some very cool things have fallen into place for this release. Most of you are already aware of Barney Greenway's (Napalm Death) guest vocal appearance on "...The Fated Breath" and “Clamor Beneath." As always, his vocals are amazing and can't wait for everyone to hear them.
“Also, the last song on the album is a cover song called ‘Into Armageddon’ by Necrophobic. If you're not already a fan of them, you need to be. They're in our top friends and some of the best black metal to ever come out of Sweden so check them out. Big thanks to them for being very cool about us recording their song and for writing it in the first place.
“The recording process was grueling but worth every 12 - 16 hour day. Phillip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness, Black Tusk) and the guys at The Jam Room [in Columbia, S.C.) did a great job of keeping us focused and capturing our sound. It really shows on the record. Scott Hull (Visceral Sound, Pig Destroyer) also did a great job with the mastering and sequencing. It's relentless and we couldn't be happier. The artwork is also completed. The ‘Folie Circulaire’ cover art can be seen here. Paul Romano really delivered for us. It will feature a 12-page booklet and is full of fantastic imagery. It is all very symbolic of the lyrical content and overall feel of the record. We'll post more images as the release date approaches. Big thanks to Paul for being a great friend and supporter.”
Here is the Foliw Circulaire track listing:
1. To Embrace. . .
2. . . .The Fated Breath
3. Dichotomy Of Exile

Savannah’s KYLESA will be embarking on a co-headlining tour in May with Germany’s The Ocean in May and early June. Also on the tour will be Lair of The Minotaur and KYLESA’s Prosthetic Records labelmates WITHERED. KYLESA continues to support 2006’s "Time Will Fuse Its Worth," which recently sent the band to Europe alongside fellow Georgians Baroness. WITHERED, meanwhile, will be supporting the band’s forthcoming release, "Folie Circulaire," which is currently slated for release in June. The effort is currently being recorded by Phillip Cope (Baroness, Kylesa, Black Tusk).
“Everything is going very well,” WITHERED guitarist Mike Thompson previously said from the studio. “Phillip has a great ear and a great vision for this album. I think it will likely exceed our expectations. Phillip has really gotten a grasp of how we want the record to sound and done a great job of getting in our heads. We were able to transform The Jam Room into our own little world. We’ve been sleeping on the floor and have completely lost track of time. There are no windows or clocks. The focus has been incredible.”
“We chose to work with Phillip because we’ve known him for a long time and his crusty background with Damad and Kylesa is something we really wanted to incorporate into the record,” Thompson elaborates. “A full tilt death or black metal production would have been the wrong direction. Phillip is also a big fan of black and death metal which gives him a unique perspective that we can trust.” An image of the band and Cope can be viewed here.
"Folie Circulaire" is the follow-up to 2005’s critically-acclaimed "Memento Mori," and will be the band’s Prosthetic Records debut. An unnamed demo song from ‘Folie Circulaire,’ along with previous material, is available on WITHERED’s official MySpace page.
