Withered has posted a live video clip during the Blackened Fest of the band performing the songs "Dichotomy of Exile" and "Reveal the Essence of Suffering." The video can be viewed here.
Following a last minute visa issue that forced the band to sit out Blackenedfest, Swedish black metallers, MARDUK, their visas securely in hand, have scheduled the following US tour dates with support from Withered and Black Anvil.
Said guitarist Morgan Håkansson, “We are excited to finally be over in the states and do these shows after all the problems with the visas. The three shows in August are just the start. We are preparing for a full tour in the winter that will cover all the areas we missed on Blackenedfest. Please join us as we raise the Banner Of The Wolf!” More...
Georgia metallers Withered have issued the following statement about ending the Blackened Fest early:
"Well, we're home a bit early from our run with Blackened Fest. Due to unfortunate circumstances with 2 of the 3 the tour buses, Withered, Cephalic Carnage, and Cattle Decapitation could not realistically finish out the tour. Our sincere apologies are given to all of our friends and fans who anticipated any of the last 6 shows. We will be back soon!
"We'd really like to thank Cephalic Carnage for being awesome bus-mates. We had a fucking blast! Thanks to Cattle Decapitation for being Cattle Decapitation. You guys rule. Thanks to Mayhem for the respect and new friendship. And, thanks to the crew, Pomroy, Milkshake, Justina (metalinjection.net), and Tomahawk for everything you've done to help.
"A huge thanks to everyone who attended the shows. You were simply amazing every night."
MetalSucks reports that tomorrow’s BLACKENEDFEST show, featuring Mayhem, Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage and Withered, in Boise, Idaho has been canceled. No reason was given for the cancellation.
Black metal group Marduk missed out on the scheduled Blackendfest show in Orlando, Florida yesterday but no explanation has been given why. A message from headlining act Mayhem reads: "There has been a lot of confusion around the MARDUK situation. They are not playing tonight at the show in Orlando, Florida. What will happen for the future of this tour is currently unknown. We want to stress that Mayhem has absolutely nothing to do with this situation. We didn't have any information about what is going on at all, there were many different rumors flying around, and unfortunately the only thing we know is that the band is not here. Why? We don't know! Thank you for your patience!"
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

This is the first time a fest like this has happened in RVA to my knowledge. One of our biggest goals with this beast of a fest is to keep it DIY. We want to do it yearly and I'm hoping you can all help it grow. If you come and show your support for your friends, the music, the bands, winter, whatever... I'm considering everyone involved in the first year to be the OG's of the fest!"
TOMBS will be heading down to Richmond, Virginia to play the Heart of Winter Fest, a DIY Doom/Black metal fest arranged by Elway from Bastard Sapling/Celebrity Murders. The festival takes place from December 18th through December 20th, 2008. You can get more information about the festival here.

Seattle’s BOOK OF BLACK EARTH has posted a new song, "Funeral of Peace," from the band’s forthcoming album on the band's MySpace page. Due out Oct. 14 through Prosthetic Records, "Horoskopus" is BOOK OF BLACK EARTH’s second full-length, and debut for new home Prosthetic Records. Pre-orders have also begun for the album on both vinyl and CD editions here.
"'Horoskopus' is a concept album about the hidden astrological elements of the Christian church," vocalist / guitarist T.J. Cowgill adds. "From its origins as a state sponsored religion in the fourth century to the present day, it has been guided by astrological concepts conceived centuries before Jesus Christ was mythologized as the 'Sun' of God."
BOOK OF BLACK EARTH consists of members of venerable metal underground band Teen Cthulhu, as well as drummer Joe Axler of Skarp, Splatterhouse, and Iamthethorn, among others. Having already released a self-financed demo in 2004 and a split release with underground legends Fall Of The Bastards in 2005, 2006’s "The Feast," received praise from Decibel magazine, Terrorizer magazine, and the band’s hometown newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Meanwhile the band is gearing up for the Black Metal Magic tour, featuring Swedish black metal legends Watain and new labelmates Withered, including a string of headlining dates on the way out to the first date, Oct. 3 in Toronto.

Sweden's Watain issues the following update:
"Hark in woe, infidels! One and a half year after their triumphant display of magic and death upon North American, Watain shall now return to those lands on a headliner tour. Due to the strict prohibitions of anything Satanic and Criminal passing over the border to USA, a lot of compromises had to be made on the last US tour regarding both members and stage-show. This time however, the full artillery shall be brought across the sea, in all it's terrible glory."
The first date is on October 3rd and after that the wolves shall storm from Canada through USA on what shall constitute the last part of the monstrous crusade that has been the "Fuck the World Tour." More...
