Doomed & Stoned Offering 70 Track Compilation

The blog Doomed & Stoned has put together an extensive compilation of underground heavy bands in Portland, Oregon, which features Ape Machine's "Angry Man," Blackwitch Pudding's "Swamp Gas Of The Nevermizer," and a whole lot more. The site's founder, Billy Goat, comments:

"Portland, Oregon is known for many things--it's the 'Rose City,' clustered around the mighty Willamette River and nearby Mt. Hood, the home of Nike and the Trail Blazers, even a major network television show called Portlandia.

"But to the hard working locals, Portland is home two the two big things that really matter: brews and bad-ass rock 'n' roll. Doomed & Stoned in Portland is a snapshot of the heavy music scene right now in Portland--from the ever-popular Red Fang, Lord Dying, and Toxic Holocaust, to rising stars such as Sons of Huns, Ape Machine, and Drunk Dad.

"Most of all, here is a collection of bands with a strong DIY ethic--everything from experimental metal to a distinct brand of Northwest punk to the ultra-heavy metal doom giants like Graves at Sea, Usnea, and Stoneburner. Not to mention the bands that just like to "Keep Portland Weird" (Blackwitch Pudding, Pinkzilla, Big Black Cloud). Over 65 bands waiting for you to lend them your ears--and a free download, to boot. You may just discover your next favorite bands."

You can stream all the tracks below or pick up your own copy of the compilation at this location. The track listing is as follows: More...

TWBM To Play Day Of The Shred Fest

Trapped Within Burning Machinery - Moreno Valley, California's five-piece crushing doom/sludge outfit - is set to play this year's Day Of The Shred Fest on November 1st alongside Red Fang, Weedeater, Windhand, The Shrine, and a whole hell of a lot more.

The band was originally a one-man project started by Zak Esparza (lead guitar/vocalist) in 2007. After recording some demos, Zak recruited close friend Geoff Jones to play drums and Juan Rodriguez to fill in on bass.

The trio wrote and recorded the band’s first demo, "Evolutionary Transmitted Disease," and self-released it in the summer of 2009. In January 2011, the band entered the studio to record a first full-length album, "The Putrid Stench of Decaying Self," this time with new bassist Ernie Ballerz and second guitarist Robert Trujillo. The band released the full-length through Black Voodoo Records on October 5th, 2012.

In early 2014, the group released a limited split tape with LA's Pigeonwing. Trapped Within Burning Machinery has also recently added a third guitarist, James Inglett, to expand its sound. As of April of 2014, TWBM just finished second full-length, "The Filth Element," recorded with renowned producer/engineer John Haddad (Intronaut, Exhumed, Phobia), which will be released via Midnite Collective in the near future.

Day Of The Shred takes place at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California on Novemer 1st. Tickets are available here and the show will feature Red Fang, Weedeater, Windhand Elder, The Shrine, Bongripper, Radio Moscow, Ancestors, Glitter Wizard, Graves At Sea, Danava, Arctic, Hot Lunch, All Them Witches, Goya, (16), Greenbeard, and Trapped Within Burning Machinery. Graves At Sea / Sourvein Split Streaming

Just days preceding its public availability through Seventh Rule Recordings, Metal Hammer is now exclusively streaming the caustic split EP from Graves At Sea and Sourvein.

Side A of this crusher is ruled by two scathing numbers from Portland, Oregon's Graves At Sea, whose contributions leave an eerie aura complete with tortured vocals, foreboding composition, and a general sense of dread. Recorded by Billy Anderson, (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis) "Betting On Black" and "Confession" thunder with the all-consuming sludge for which the band is notorious, flooding in amongst the tortured howls and shrieks of vocalist Nathan Misterek.

The resin-coated Cape Fear carnage of Sourvein overthrows the B-Side with three songs produced and recorded by Mike Dean of Corrosion Of Conformity. These odes of heavy -- "Driffter," "Equinox" and "Follow The Light" -- combine toxic riffs, grooves and just the right amount of psychedelic appeal.

Both sides were mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering and will be released via Seventh Rule on 160-gram vinyl as well as CD this Tuesday, May 13th.

Graves At Sea Streams "This Place Is Poison"

The Portland doom kings in Graves At Sea today drop a molten taste of "This Place Is Poison," available below thanks to Cvlt Nation.

The sordid hell hymn serves as side A of the EP of same name. The band's first release since 2005's scalding split with Asunder, "This Place Is Poison" was tracked by drummer Bryan Sours (ex-Subarachnoid Space) and Steve Lobdell at Audible Alchemy and mastered by Ryan Foster at Foster Mastering on their home turf.

On Side B, Black Sabbath's "Orchid" and "Lord Of This World" get Graves At Sea'ed: "Orchid" is eroded beyond its essence into a morose march towards death while "Lord of This World" gets a grim reconfiguration with grisly riffs, bilious hisses and a blackened atmosphere that takes the original to a dark, desolate realm of desperation and despair.

Graves At Sea is currently leveling stages across Europe alongside fellow riff-worshippers Sourvein. Remaining dates are as follows:

4/26/2014 Le Klub - Paris, France
4/27/2014 DesertFest @ The Underworld - London, England
