Malacoda Release New Track On Metalunderground

Originally a recording project of multi-instrumentalist and music producer Lucas Di Mascio, Malacoda has persevered and grown throughout the years. Now a trio, the band is ready to unleash the conclusion to their trilogy of EP's that was written and recorded before the pandemic.

The Year Walk is the third EP Malacoda will release in 2021. Four more songs which build upon the band's symphonic sound first explored on 2016's Ritualis Aeterna.

Long time collaborator Michael Farina returns to play drums on select tracks, as well as Ryan Claxton (Tulip, Living Dead Girl) and Andrew Suarez (ex-The Slyde). The haunting album cover was made by the extremely talented Stefan Skjoedt.

Featuring Gabriel Guardiola (Immortal Guardian) on the track Beaten Path as well as a stellar mixing and mastering job by Jeramie Kling (The Absence, Inhuman Condition, Venom Inc.), The Year Walk encompasses everything the band sought to achieve with this direction and closes a long, arduous chapter in Malacoda's history.

Pit Stories: Protecting The Van

Ready for a new Pit Story metal fans? This week's come courtesy of Canadian group Malacoda, and moves away from the pit and onto the road where bands spend countless hours travelling to bring you the craziest shows in the music industry!

Tour van break-ins are a fact of life for metal bands, and there's usually not a month gone by that we don't post about some crowd funding campaign to recover lost items after the latest robbery.

Some bands have taken up preventative security measures to prevent such activity - but they don't always work out as planned. Brad Casarin, guitarist of Malacoda, recalls his road story like this:

We were in Vancouver playing a show and the venue was on Hastings. Anybody that's been to Vancouver knows this is one of the worst areas in North America for drugs and drug users. After the gig half of us got to sleep in a hotel room while two of us volunteered to sleep in the van in front of the venue.

Around three in the morning we are woken up by a hand reaching into the van - older vans used to have these push out windows that you could just squeeze your hand through. The hand was trying to unlatch the pull up lock! Luckily I remembered I had packed a cO2 cartridge BB hand gun. So I reached for it as the hand was feeling around for the lock and I unloaded it 10 - 12 times about three inches away into his hand.

The perpetrator screamed in agony trying to get out of the tight fit he had maneuvered his hand into, all the while screaming "Please, oh God, please stop!" from outside the van. It was then that I recognized the voice as our drummer who had come back to the van to grab something. His swollen BB filled hand eventually healed up in a week and he could drum again at full capacity!

Malacoda's six track EP "Ritualis Aeterna" was released last week (December 2nd, 2016) and can be streamed in full below. More...

Malacoda Streaming "Pandemonium"

Canadian horror-inspired symphonic power metallers Malacoda will offer new six track EP "Ritualis Aeterna" on December 2nd. Packed with dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century.

Following a previous music video for "Penny Dreadful," oday the band streams new song "Pandemonium," which can be heard below. Band founder and vocalist Lucas Di Mascio comments:

"'Pandemonium' is a track that hearkens back to our love of classic metal and its connection to mysticism and horror. Influenced lyrically by John Milton's Paradise Lost and its tragic depiction of Lucifer, the song plays on how fear can change one's perception of the world and if that fear is not kept in check, it can have dire consequences." Malacoda Releases "Penny Dreadful" Video

Set to release new EP "Ritualis Aeterna" on December 2nd, Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers Malacoda just unleashed a new music video for first single "Penny Dreadful."

The clip was directed, produced and edited by The Laundry Design Works and can be seen below. "Penny Dreadful" was inspired by the since canceled Showtime TV show of the same name.

The song explores the themes of the show, with each section carrying a different character's personal struggles. Just as the Showtime opus paid homage to horror's roots, the band's music video pays respects to classic horror films, using only practical effects to achieve everything from the dark corruption of the blood in the veins of the possessed woman, to the sped up and jerky motions the band members display as the song crescendos.

Malacoda comments: "The 'Penny Dreadful' video is something the band has wanted to do for a long time. Being involved with everything from the script, storyboard and even the production of the story scenes was great and let us guide where we wanted the video to go. Our upcoming ep release is a healthy dosage of things to come, we are just merely dipping our toes into a murky pool filled with horror and grandiosity and we hope our listeners take the plunge with us as we dive deeper into these darker areas."
