Malacoda Releases "Penny Dreadful" Music Video
Set to release new EP "Ritualis Aeterna" on December 2nd, Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers Malacoda just unleashed a new music video for first single "Penny Dreadful."
The clip was directed, produced and edited by The Laundry Design Works and can be seen below. "Penny Dreadful" was inspired by the since canceled Showtime TV show of the same name.
The song explores the themes of the show, with each section carrying a different character's personal struggles. Just as the Showtime opus paid homage to horror's roots, the band's music video pays respects to classic horror films, using only practical effects to achieve everything from the dark corruption of the blood in the veins of the possessed woman, to the sped up and jerky motions the band members display as the song crescendos.
Malacoda comments: "The 'Penny Dreadful' video is something the band has wanted to do for a long time. Being involved with everything from the script, storyboard and even the production of the story scenes was great and let us guide where we wanted the video to go. Our upcoming ep release is a healthy dosage of things to come, we are just merely dipping our toes into a murky pool filled with horror and grandiosity and we hope our listeners take the plunge with us as we dive deeper into these darker areas."
The band's new six track EP "Ritualis Aeterna" features the following songs:
1. Penny Dreadful (5:34)
2. I Got A Letter (4:37)
3. Pandemonium (3:39)
4. The Wild Hunt (4:20)
5. Linger Here (2:23)
6. There Will Always Be One (3:47)
