This melodic death metal band, formed by former Carcass’ guitarist, Michael Amott, started out with Johan Liiva on vocals, but then replaced him with Angela Gossow. Though a female replaced him, the band still has the same death metal vocal style. Gossow, who has only been with the band on the past two albums, has been able to create a strong presence in the band.

Arch Enemy ResignsTo Century Media Records

Swedish death metallers ARCH ENEMY have re-signed with Century Media Records. The Press release is as follows:

Metal titans ARCH ENEMY – whose dynamic mixture of melody and aggression has earned them massive critical acclaim, a rabid worldwide fan base and a slot on this summer’s Ozzfest – have officially signed a new agreement that sees Century Media Records, in conjunction with band leader Mike Amott’s Savage Messiah Music label, become the home for the group’s future albums worldwide outside Southeast Asia.

The band is currently wrapping up work on their highly anticipated new full-length album "Doomsday Machine", which is set for a July 25 release in Europe (July 26 in North America). “We have all been working hard in the studio to make the ultimate metal album,” Mike says. “The drums sound totally amazing, as Daniel [Erlandsson] has excelled himself yet again and the grooves he's created are catchy but powerful as hell. People will be stunned when they hear what he has done.

“I think all great metal needs that killer mix of classic riffs and ripping solos, something that has been a bit of a dying art recently,” he continues. “We are doing our best to recreate that mix on this new album, and one thing I can guarantee is that there will be tons of guitar for fans to headbang to. All in all, I am really happy with the songs and I believe we have found the right balance of melody and brutality – the ARCH ENEMY trademark! Welcome to the Doomsday Machine.” More...

Official Ozzfest 2005 Dates And Lineup Revealed

It's big. It's bad. And it's back for more. Got a problem with that?

Ozzfest — the king of festivals — triumphantly returns this summer to celebrate its hard-earned 10th anniversary with the staggering line-up of BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, ROB ZOMBIE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. The summer's premier concert festival — which has propelled many of today’s rock bands to superstardom while paying close attention to its discerning fans — will roll out July 15 in Boston and visit 26 cities by the time it reaches West Palm Beach on September 4. The Hot Topic Second Stage will be headlined by ZOMBIE and feature a preview of rock's rising stars, including AS I LAY DYING, MASTODON, THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BURY YOUR DEAD, SOILWORK, TRIVIUM, IT DIES TODAY, A DOZEN FURIES and more.

"I'm most proud of the success of Ozzfest," says founder Sharon Osbourne. "Everyone said it would never happen and 10 years later we are still in business." In fact, 125 bands, 238 shows and over 4 million fans later, the all-day extravaganza of music and deranged merriment is roaring louder than ever. History in the making, 2005 marks the first time metal legends BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN have toured together and also represents IRON MAIDEN's first Ozzfest appearance.

IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson said, "This summer's MAIDEN touring is based on the recent 'Early Days' DVD and all the songs we do at Ozzfest will be from our first four albums — 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind'. We will be bringing over our full European show, naturally including as special guest Eddie in various appropriate guises!! The stage sets, production and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows on the tours around those albums — only bigger… much bigger!!! We don’t know if anyone has done anything like this before but we think it’s something the fans will really appreciate both in the choice of songs and in the production values."

Here are the Ozzfest tour dates: More...

"Dead Eyes See No Future" is the title track of the band's recently released EP containing a mixture of live tracks and cover versions. The CD, which was initially released in Japan only while the band were touring there a few months ago, has since been expanded with the addition of an extra live track ("Heart Of Darkness") as well as the "We Will Rise" video.

Arch Enemy Issues Statement On Cancelled NYC Show

Arch Enemy has issued the following statement regarding their cancelled show with Cradle of Filth at the Irving Plaza, New York on Dec. 14:

We're here at the Irving Plaza as you know, and we've just been given some devastating news. The show has been cancelled tonight, due to reasons entirely beyond our control. We have been told that Dani from Cradle of Filth has been taken ill and they cannot do the show tonight. When the promoter found out, he decided to pull the entire show, even though Arch Enemy was more than ready and to go ahead and just play the show anyway. We talked with our friends in Bleeding Through and Himsa and they thought the same as us - we all wanted to play.

We are totally, totally gutted about this. We cannot believe this decision from the promoter, but we've been told there is NOTHING we (or anybody else) can do about it. Worst of all, it's a sold out show, so we know how many people will be disappointed. The guys from Himsa even got on the phone to other promoters and venues in the area, to see if we could all go and play a three band show somewhere else, but with such short notice it just isn't happening.

I just don't know what else to say, we are all sitting here stunned right now. This has been one of our best ever US tours, and to end it like this, totally powerless, just SUCKS BEYOND BELIEF!! We are so on fire right now, the last week of shows have been amazing, this one was shaping up to be even better! Talk about a total let-down.

As you can imagine it's total chaos at the venue right now, I'm gonna get kicked off this machine soon - no doubt there'll be more on this subject from me soon but as you know we're flying to London in the morning for our big show (at least there's still that to look forward to)! Anyway, just wanted to say 'sorry' to all our fans in NYC who were coming along to see us; I'm sure you'll understand that there was nothing we could do here, but we will be back to see you next year...

Arch Enemy Guitarist Posts Update From The Road

Mike Amott, the guitarist for Arch Enemy ( currently featured on Headbangers Ball tour) has issued the following update from the road:

"We are currently in freezing Edmonton, Canada…it took us 17 hours to drive from Vancouver to here…we drove through the mountains and there was really nothing else but ice and snow…and then some more ice and snow! We saw some beautiful nature, and some really cool wildlife like eagles and a ram crossing the road - very impressive for us Swedes! :-)

The shows have been going extremely well on this tour, it's been a lot of fun! And I must say that we are slightly surprised and totally honoured that CRADLE OF FILTH's fanbase has taken to us so well! We played Vancouver for the first time ever 2 days ago and that was really a killer show, great crowd...we'll be back!!!

Arch Enemy Give Death Metal A New Voice

Arch Enemy singer, Angela Gossow, recently spoke to the staff at Chart Attack about their lyrics:

It’s a heavy year end for British death metallers Arch Enemy. Not only are they wrapping up an opening slot for chums Cradle Of Filth in support of their own latest EP, "Dead Eyes See No Future," but they’re also frantically writing a follow-up full-length to 2003’s "Anthems Of Rebellion."

Singer Angela Gossow doesn’t really feel the tension, though. She’s managed to avoid it because lyrics just seem to be pouring out of her. Taking a few moments to phone up the old ChartAttack office, Gossow’s mind is all lyrics. It’s all she wants to discuss, relating that while she’s not quite ready to tell us what the new songs are about, we’ll be duly impressed.

"I could tell them to you now, but you need to hear my lyrics in the context of the music to fully appreciate them," she says. "Not that it will matter, because whenever you write lyrics, no one understands their point anyway. They all take their own elements from it even if the words are directly drawn (from) our own experiences."
