Los Angeles Cliveaid Show Reschedueled
Cliveaid, the organization which was set up in 2004 as a fund-raising event for original IRON MAIDEN drummer Clive Burr (who suffers from multiple sclerosis), has issued the following update:
"Cliveaid announces that its scheduled show for Los Angeles this September will now be taking place the first Saturday of March 2008. This is due to a chance meeting at a recent festival which will enable us to bring you the show we all want... a kick-ass metal/rock show. At this point the only info we can give you is that one of the biggest bands in the world is helping us out with something. Also we can announce that our Bergen [Norway] show that will be held on March 27th is taking great shape. So far we have OCTAVIA SPERATI and one huge name that has confirmed; we just need to cross the t's and dot the i's. However, it will be announced very soon. Also we are scheduling shows for France, Sweden, Italy, Denmark and even more in the USA. We are looking for corporate help for some shows as we need advertisers on our site and also help with various issues that are arrising so if you can help us please email sam@cliveaid.com."
The Cliveaid event that was previously scheduled for September 22, 2007 in Los Angeles, California was supposed to feature RONNY MUNROE PROJECT, LEATHERWOLF, HUCK JOHNS, MY EVOLUTION and CRUEL.
Burr is suffering from multiple sclerosis — a disease of unknown cause. The disorder is causing him intermittent numbness and can affect his balance. At present there is no known cure for MS, although he is helping test new drugs in the hope that his body response may contribute to a cure.
Clive joined IRON MAIDEN at the very end of December 1979 and played on the first three albums — "Iron Maiden", "Killers" and "Number of the Beast" — and toured extensively with the band over this groundbreaking period before leaving in early 1983.
Bruce Dickinson's Movie "Well Under Way"
According to an IRON MAIDEN update, filming of the supernatural horror thriller Chemical Wedding is well underway. Based on an original screenplay by (singer) Bruce Dickinson, the film directed by Julian Doyle, veteran second unit director and editor of Terry Gilliam's Brazil, Time Bandits and Monty Python's The Life of Brian. Julian wrote and directed Maiden's partially animated promotional video 'Can I Play With Madness'.
Chemical Wedding stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Aleister Crowley, dubbed 'the most evil man in Britain.'
Crowley was a major Edwardian figure and a scandalous character. A Cambridge graduate, he became an infamous mystic and occult scholar and although he died in 1947, his books are still in print and he remains a major focus for the occult world. In the film, Crowley's spirit is re-animated by a superconductor mainframe, transforming the shy and stuttering Professor Haddo (Callow) into the charismatic but sexually depraved Crowley who wreaks havoc with the students and faculty of today's Cambridge campus. The cast will be rounded out with cameos from Dickinson and other Python regulars.
The film should be released sometime in 2008 with Bruce supervising the soundtrack.

Korn To Be On Bruce Dickinson Show
KORN will be IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guests on Friday, September 14 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio show, aptly named "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to the program live via the Internet between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. U.K. time at BBC.co.uk.
KORN's new, untitled album sold 123,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on The Billboard chart. This is slightly more than half of the 221,000 first-week tally achieved by its predecessor, "See You on the Other Side", which landed at No. 3 back in December 2005.
KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer recently told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette why the band chose not to continue working with veteran drummer Terry Bozzio, who played on the band's new album. Shaffer explained, "There were certain demands that he made. We weren't ready to meet those demands...He was a great guy and a phenomenal drummer. But the demands that he made were offensive. He wanted to be a member of the band, and that included ownership. We were like, 'What? You want to have 25 percent of everything?' We can't just sign away the rights to music on a whim."

Bruce Dickinson Biography Now Available
An unofficial biography of IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson, titled "Bruce Dickinson: Flashing Metal with Maiden and Flying Solo" (cover), was published in early June via Independent Music Press. A synopsis of the book reads as follows:
"Bruce Dickinson is best known as frontman for the multi-million selling giants of heavy metal, IRON MAIDEN, with whom he has enjoyed worldwide success for 25 years. However, his story outside of MAIDEN is equally remarkable. Prior to joining that band Dickinson enjoyed stardom with SAMSON, while his post-MAIDEN solo career has brought much critical success. Further away from his day job, Dickinson is a true renaissance man. A member of the British fencing team, he also hosts his own show on flagship digital radio station, BBC 6 Music, is a best-selling fiction author, and TV presenter for the Discovery Channel and Sky One. Dickinson is also employed by the commercial airline Astreus as a first officer, and even participated in a mercy mission to rescue British residents from Beirut during the summer of 2006. This book tells his story for the first time, through exclusive interviews with those who know him best: from his formative days to all his time in MAIDEN, through his solo years, right up to the present day, where IRON MAIDEN are rightly considered legends of music worldwide."
Classic British Metal Documentary Posted Online
In 1989, BBC2 television aired a five-part music genre documentary series in the UK called “Arena.” One of the episodes, “Heavy Metal,” featured live footage from Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Napalm Death, Motörhead, Slayer and others.
The production features no narration, instead relying on interview commentary and concert clips to place the viewer in the heart of the metal scene and elliptically tell the story of the genre.
Various scenes specifically delve into metal culture: a club full of kids, but no bands, mosh around a dancefloor to music broadcast on a PA; and a kid who couldn’t be more than 10 shreds out solos with more agility than most thrash metal veterans.
There are also straight-out humorous moments, like when an interviewer asks W. Axl Rose, “Do you have anything in common with Iron Maiden, and he replies without a pause, “I hope not.”
You can watch this metal portion of the feature on Google Videos.

The liner notes will include extensive photos, track commentary and interviews with Ronnie James Dio and Lita Ford.

Richmond, Virginia thrash monsters MUNICIPAL WASTE will be IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guests on Friday, August 24 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio show, aptly named "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to the program live via the Internet between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. U.K. time at BBC.co.uk.
MUNICIPAL WASTE's new album, "The Art of Partying", was released in the U.S. on July 31.

Paul Di'anno Discusses Anthrax Job
Rock N Roll Universe recently conducted an interview with former IRON MAIDEN vocalist and solo artist Paul Di'Anno. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Rock N Roll Universe: You recently released a new album here in the U.S., "The Living Dead", which is your first all new album in nearly six years. How do you feel the album turned out, and why has it been so long between albums with all new material?
Paul Di'Anno: The record industry is not what it used to be, so I shopped material for a deal just like everyone else...and I've been quite busy playing live the last couple of years.
Rock N Roll Universe: Also recently you put out "The Classics: The Iron Maiden Years", which consists of 12 re recorded versions of songs culled from the first two IRON MAIDEN albums. Now, there are some "fans" who have been very critical of this release, saying that you're still trading upon past glories by recording versions of songs you originally recorded over 25 years ago. What led you to the decision to put out the album, and what is your response to someone who might feel that way?
Paul Di'Anno: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I've always thought the first MAIDEN album sounded awful (I know Steve [Harris] agrees with me), and I wanted to update the songs a bit. I'm hardly making any money of it, so it's not like I rip anyone off.
Rock N Roll Universe: It's been over 25 years since the first MAIDEN album came out, which makes the band eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Is that something which you would like to see happen, and what do you feel your chances would be to be inducted as well? What are your feelings regarding all of that?
Paul Di'Anno: Don't really care for stuff like that. We got enough respect from our fans, and that's more than enough.
Rock N Roll Universe: How would you rate your vocal successors in IRON MAIDEN, Paul?
Paul Di'Anno: MAIDEN is a very different band with Bruce. He's great though. But I do the early stuff better, I think.
Rock N Roll Universe: Several months back there was an online petition started by fans of ANTHRAX to get the members of that band to consider you as the next vocalist for the band. What's your opinion regarding that, and if you were asked by the band, would you consider joining?
Paul Di'Anno: I don't mind. ANTHRAX is a great band, and Scott [Ian] is a great bloke. But I don't think I'm the man for the job.
Rock N Roll Universe: You've been in the business for over three decades now. Are there any goals, musically or otherwise that you'd still like to achieve?
Paul Di'Anno: I really want to make a classic crooner album...some old +Elvis tunes, Sinatra...I'm not kidding!

Valentino Rossi Blames GP Defeat On Iron Maiden
Valentino Rossi (the Michael Schumacher of bike racing) is firmly placing the blame for his poor performance at the Donington GP on the shoulders of Maiden and the other bands who played the Download festival on the circuit a couple of weeks previously!
"Then there is the annual Download rock festival, which took place at the circuit a fortnight ago with thousands of heavy metal fans flocking to the venue. Blaming Iron Maiden and Megadeth was certainly on the agenda of Rossi, whose charge for a podium place was hampered by a deteriorating rear tyre. He finished fourth.
Rossi said: "We spoke to the Safety Commission. The surface here was done just three years ago, so it is not old. They resurfaced because they had a lot of bumps, but maybe the problem is not the aeroplanes but the concert of Marilyn Manson. They put the hot dog stand on the track, so maybe the oil is not very good for the grip."
Cooking oil, not engine oil, that is. Stoner's problems were confined to the start. As he hit the throttle, his bike skidded on one of the painted grid lines and a stream of bikes overtook him."
Iron Maiden Download Set To Be Broadcast On TV
Iron Maiden's entire set from this weekend's Download festival is being mixed in the studio for broadcast on British television. No other details are yet available.
Bruce Dickinson To Make Aleister Crowley Movie
According to U.K.-based music journalist Dave Ling, IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson's film about occult legend Aleister Crowley (infamous as "the wickedest man in the world") will shortly go into production, with Simon Callow of "Amadeus", "Shakespeare in Love" and, appropriately, "The Phantom of the Opera" — set for the title role. "Dickinson has spent 12 years working on this project, and is understandably thrilled to get it moving at last," says Ling.
The movie is reportedly about a professor in an English university, who, after a failed experiment, becomes obsessed with Crowley's soul. Crowley himself was very much into red-haired women, and the professor becomes enchanted by a very beautiful, red-haired student.
