British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden has announced that they will be embarking on a string of shows in Europe next year, starting from April. They will be supported by Shinedown on all sixteen dates.
Founder and bassist Steve Harris stated: "As it’s been so long since our last full UK arena tour, we really wanted to get to our fans in as many cities as possible.
"We’re really looking forward to it, especially visiting places we haven’t been to for a very long time like Leeds where we haven’t played since 2005 and Liverpool where we haven’t played since 1990.
"The whole band is really enjoying this tour and although we love playing festivals and stadiums, it is terrific to return to the intimacy and atmosphere of arenas.
"The songs from The Book Of Souls album and the new Maya-themed Eddies and stage sets have gone down really well and fan reaction has been amazing.
"And of course we know our fans appreciate us playing a lot of the older songs too, which we will continue to do."

U.K. metal legends Iron Maiden announced that the final stop of the "Book of Souls" tour on August 4th at Germany's legendary Wacken Festival will be the band's final live performance. The band promises that the performance will be the most special live event ever conceived in its 41 year history. Dubbed "The True Best Of The Beast," Iron Maiden will perform both new and classic material spanning its entire history with guest appearances from former vocalists Paul Di'Anno and Blaze Bayley.
In a statement issued by long time band co-manager Rod Smallwood: "After over 40 years rocking the world so many times over, Iron Maiden will perform for the last time at Wacken on August 4th. The decision wasn't made overnight, but carefully planned out over the last year. If there was ever an Iron Maiden show you should see, this is the one. We have so many surprises in store for the fans."
Some of the surprises that Smallwood was able to reveal include:
- Every album in the band's history will be represented with at least one song in the set
- Special guest vocalists include Paul Di'Anno and Blaze Bayley, both of who will perform material from their respective eras
- The stage show will be unlike any other Iron Maiden performance, featuring props and stage sets from the band's classic tours for "Powerslave," "Somewhere in Time," "Seventh Son of A Seventh Son"
- Special Iron Maiden "stage tickets" will be made available as a special side sale, which opens up opportunities for additional fans to attend this performance as Wacken is currently sold out. Each fan with a special stage ticket will receive a 150 page commemorative program, which features never published live and memorabilia pictures spanning the history of the band. More...

British heavy metal icons Iron Maiden have posted their new music video online for the song, "Speed of Light." You can check it out below.
The video takes a journey through the video game world, displaying the ever evolving graphics that have been prevalent throughout the history of the pastime, all the while of course, featuring the band's beloved mascot, Eddie.
The song itself comes from the group's forthcoming new studio album, "Book of Souls," which will be released on September 4th through Parlophone/Sanctuary Music. More...
Considering the huge potential for crossover between metal and gaming fans, it's always baffled me that there aren't more heavy metal focused video game soundtracks. Rather than going for sounds that make the player bang their heads and launch their controller through the television, most games – even highly action focused ones – tend to stick with more tepid ambient soundtracks based on electronica. Techno is about as “heavy” as most game soundtracks tend to get.
This week we're going to take a look at a handful of games that buck that trend and offer up honest-to-Lucifer extreme metal in their playlists. Not an exhaustive list (and we'll be looking at more in the future), this is just a few that are worth your time and are notable for their inclusion of tracks from excellent metal bands or for having original soundtracks rooted strongly in the metal tradition.
This one's a no-brainer, as it's essentially THE heavy metal video game, created solely to celebrate our beloved genre. Eddie may be a lowly roadie, but through the power of metal (and a battleax, wicked car, and some magic powers) he can annihilate the goths, please the gods, and get the girl (or two).
Although it seems like a gimmick to get heavy music fans interested, the gameplay is actually really solid and revolves around three different styles: strategy large-scale combat as a general over an army, open world GTA car driving shenanigans, and elements of combat-heavy action games like God of War or Dante's Inferno
The game features more than 100 metal tracks (some of which have to be unlocked in-game) covering a huge range of sub-genres with everything from In Flames to Cradle Of Filth, along with a whole lot of classics from the likes of Motorhead and Judas Priest.
Iron Maiden is offering a first taste of new music from the eagerly awaited new studio album "The Book Of Souls", which will be released worldwide on September 4th through Parlophone Records (Sanctuary Copyrights/BMG in the U.S.A.). The album was recorded in Paris with Iron Maiden's longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014. The band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch.
Check out now the short preview of a new Iron Maiden song below.
After recently being declared cancer free and working on a new Iron Maiden album, Bruce Dickinson visited the music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins in London.
During his visit, Bruce took part in a music therapy session with special needs kids from Richard Cloudesley School. Nordoff Robbins shot video during the session, which can be seen below.
Iron Maiden's new album "The Book Of Souls" will be released globally on September 4th. Full details and the cover artwork that has given the metal world psychic powers to hear music through images can be found right here.
Iron Maiden’s eagerly awaited new studio album "The Book Of Souls" will be released globally on September 4th through Parlophone Records (Sanctuary Copyrights/BMG in the U.S.A.). It was recorded in Paris with their longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch.
The stunning cover art was created by Mark Wilkinson who has worked with the band previously, and because this 11 track album has a total running time of 92 minutes, it is Iron Maiden's first ever double studio album. There’s a broader split on the song-writing compared to previous Maiden records, with bassist and founder member Steve Harris contributing to seven of the tracks; 6 of them with Maiden’s guitarists and one sole composition. This is also the first time since 1984’s Powerslave that an Iron Maiden studio album also features two tracks written solely by Bruce Dickinson, one of which is the longest song Maiden has ever recorded! And also two Dickinson/Smith collaborations.
Steve comments: “We approached this album in a different way to how we’ve recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them I think. I’m very proud of 'The Book Of Souls,' we all are, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!” More...
Iron Maiden announced that following a recent MRI scan, vocalist Bruce Dickinson is cancer free. The band is finishing work on a new studio album, which will be "definitely be [released] this year."
Bruce commented: “I would like to thank the fantastic medical team who have been treating me for the last few months, resulting in this amazing outcome. It’s been tough on my family and in many ways it was harder for them than me. I’d also like to send a heartfelt thanks to all our fans for their kind words and thoughts. I’m a firm believer in trying to maintain a positive attitude, and the encouragement from the global Maiden family meant a great deal to me. Right now, I’m feeling extremely motivated and can’t wait to get back to business as usual, as soon as I can!”
Manager Rod Smallwood added: “We are of course all absolutely delighted that Bruce’s doctors have pronounced him free of cancer. Although Bruce is naturally eager to resume Maiden activities, it will take a while before he is completely back to full strength, as we explained previously. Because of this, the band will not be touring or playing any shows until next year. We know our fans will understand the situation and, like us, would prefer to wait until Bruce is back to his usual indefatigable levels of fitness before going out on the road. More...
Iron Maiden's co-manager Rod Smallwood issued a statement on the current condition of vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who is currently battling cancer which was detected back before Christmas. Unconfirmed reports citing comments from drummer Nicko McBrain seem to indicate that Iron Maiden has completed work on a new studio album and has been in a holding pattern on ramping up the hype and excitement for it while Dickinson recovers.
Smallwood's statement reads: "Bruce has asked me to thank everyone for their tremendous support and kind wishes. He has been extremely touched and encouraged by the genuine and affectionate response from our global family of Maiden fans.
"Radiology is cumulative and continues to build in the body for around three weeks after treatment, so even though Bruce’s seven week course is completed, he’s had a long period of considerable pain and discomfort. He is happily now starting to recuperate and the pain will continue to abate and the swelling to reduce for the next couple of months at which time he will be able take an MRI scan. It is not until then that we will have full confirmation that the cancer has been completely destroyed. However prognosis continues to be extremely good and everyone is optimistic for a full recovery. Following the scan, we will officially update you on our website at the appropriate time, probably in late May.
"After that, it will take a few more months for Bruce to get back to full fitness. Naturally the rest of the band are totally supportive and Maiden’s plans will be determined by Bruce’s progress.
"Please continue your positive thoughts. They are very much appreciated."

Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson is currently undergoing cancer treatment for a small cancerous growth at the back of his tongue. Due to the early detection, doctors have listed his prognosis as "very good," and the band will have further updates in May.
The band's announcement reads: "Just before Christmas, Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson visited his doctor for a routine check-up. This led to tests and biopsies which revealed a small cancerous tumour at the back of his tongue. A seven week course of chemotherapy and radiology treatment was completed yesterday. As the tumour was caught in the early stages, the prognosis thankfully is extremely good. Bruce’s medical team fully expect him to make a complete recovery with the all clear envisaged by late May. It will then take a further few months for Bruce to get back to full fitness. In the meantime we would ask for your patience, understanding and respect for Bruce and his family’s privacy until we update everyone by the end of May. Bruce is doing very well considering the circumstances and the whole team are very positive." More...
