Trivium To Open For Iron Maiden in New Jersey

Trivium have announced that they will join metal legends Iron Maiden as "Special Guest" for one show on Saturday, June 14 at New Jersey's PNC Bank Arts Center on the Somewhere Back in Time Tour.

Following the worldwide success of "The Crusade" album (which charted at No 7 in the UK and No 25 in Billboard), Trivium have been tucked away in the studio in Tennessee since January with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Death Angel) working on the follow up recording for Roadrunner Records.

Comments Trivium frontman, Matt Heafy, "Trivium is honored to again be asked to play a show with Iron Maiden. We supported them for a full European tour in 2006 and it was one of the best touring experiences we've ever had as a band. Maiden are absolute legends and we hoped one day we would have another chance to share a stage with them. When they called us for this special show we couldn't say yes fast enough. We'll just be getting out of the studio and won't even be touring yet but we're going to enjoy the show and then have the opportunity to watch Maiden do what they do best - kick ass on stage."

Iron Maiden Sells Out Canada

IRON MAIDEN's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"The IRON MAIDEN shows in Western Canada have now sold every available ticket in each market in just four days. The band encourages any non-ticket holders to check back in a couple weeks and just before the show as production releases may become available when the stage has been set in each arena, check with your local box office or www.ironmaiden.com for further updates. Even if some tickets may have to be stamped with a slightly restricted side view, fans will still be able to experience the incredible communal atmosphere of a MAIDEN concert."

Commented vocalist Bruce Dickinson: "We are truly overwhelmed by this response, especially as some of these cities we haven't played in 20 years!! Being Brits we are always very comfortable with Canadians and it will be a great pleasure to get back on the prairies again. It was always a LOUD response there! We look forward to this immensely and hope to give you all a show to remember."

NWOBHM DVD Due Out In June

It's been announced that a new DVD entitled Iron Maiden And The New Wave Of British Of Heavy Metal will be released on June 10th via MVD Entertainment. The documentary is described by its distributors as follows:

"Back in 1976, nobody really knew that there was an old wave of British Heavy Metal. But within two years of their formation, Iron Maiden had spearheaded what came to be abbreviated the NWOBHM, and as with punk the year before, a new generation of Rock musicians bought in a new wave of the genre - and in the process made loud, raw, heavy rock the global phenomenon it is today. For the first time this film investigates this New Wave - the bands, the records, the media and the series of unconnected events that led to this astonishing, durable and still hugely relevant form which is still heard today in virtually every rock record released. Focusing on Maiden and the other pivotal bands of the time, such as SAXON, SAMSON, PRAYING MANTIS, DIAMOND HEAD, TYGERS OF PAN TANG and many others, this DVD is the ultimate expose of a style that may not get as much press as punk, but is equally as relevant to the music of the second millennium. It features rare footage of all the main NWOBHM bands; Live and studio recordings of the pivotal tracks; Scarce news items and archive of the movement, from the time, as it unfolded around the UK; Seldom seen photographs, many from private collections. It also includes exclusive interviews with many of the major players, including, Iron Maiden's PAUL DIANNO and Dennis Stratton, Diamond Head's Brian Tatler, Tygers Of Pan Tang's Rob Weir, Samson's legendary drummer Thundersticks, Tino and Chris Troy from Praying Mantis, the current line-up of GIRLSCHOOL and many other high profile names from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. There's also commentary, review and expertise from; Malcolm Dome [Kerrang, Classic Rock] Jerry Ewing [Metal Hammer, Classic Rock] Geoff Barton [staff writer at Sounds during the New Wave] Garry Bushell [Sounds journalist and champion of NWOBHM] Neil Kay [legendary metal DJ from the Soundhouse club] and British metal author and journalist, Joel McIver."

In addition to the documentary, there will also be extended interviews and a NWOBHM interactive challenge.

Iron Maiden To Release "Best Of The 80s" Set

The following press release has been sent:

"IRON MAIDEN have prevailed over the world of heavy metal for almost thirty years, yet are also without doubt one of the most contemporary and exciting bands of the 21st century. And in their defiant spirit of overturning convention - from flying their own plane around the world on a record-breaking tour to selling over 70 million albums Worldwide without mainstream radio or TV support - today Iron Maiden announce a revolutionary new way of delivering music to their fans.

"With the overwhelming success of the current Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 08, and the recent #1 selling DVD Live After Death, which has already gone double-platinum in Canada, EMI are proud to release a very special album on May 13th to chart the first decade of the band’s extraordinary career. The album celebrates the essence of the current tour by featuring most of the essential tracks from the band’s first seven studio albums and one live album, recorded between 1980 and 1989, and is aptly also entitled Somewhere Back in Time - The Best Of: 1980 - 1989 (full tracklisting below).

"In an unprecedented move to let younger fans hear, understand and appreciate the quality of these recordings EMI launch the unique Somewhere Best In Sound, whereby the curious/adventurous can download the entire album without charge from www.ironmaiden.com as a high quality audio file (WMA) which is a typically powerful 320 kbps. Fans will then be able to listen to the entire album at their leisure three times before the download expires. The listener is then given a simple option to upgrade and purchase the album as a full traditional DRM-free download (so they can then copy or do as they like with the album).

Manager Rod Smallwood explains the thinking behind this innovative move: More...

Iron Maiden Warn Against Fake Tour Dates

IRON MAIDEN's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"Useful as it is, anyone who's ever submitted school work based on what they found on Wikipedia surely knows that it's not always entirely factual.

"In the case of IRON MAIDEN un-announced tour dates, it's very much a work of fiction!

"Remember folks, dates aren't official until they are announced right here on IronMaiden.com. You don't have long to wait — the second leg dates for North America will be published soon. But in the meantime, please don't pay attention to tour info on Wikipedia or any sites that have copied the same rumours cos I can tell you all that they're not correct and we'd hate for anyone to make concrete plans based on bad information."

Iron Maiden Manager Checks In From Japan

Maiden Norway has posted this latest "Somewhere Back In Time" World Tour 2008 report from IRON MAIDEN's manager, Rod Smallwood:

"Flight left Cairns at 9:25AM for Narita Tokyo. Not too painful at the airport as Cairns is fairly quiet and the flight was uneventful - caught up on some previous diaries and slotted a load of offline mail into the outbox to get off on arrival at the Tokyo Hotel. Then watched some TV and came across a very interesting film documentary - it was already on so don't know the title - but it was about the discovery in a place about halfway between Bethlehem and Jerusalem of a tomb potentially containing the 'bone boxes' (don't know how to spell Jewish name of these) which the movie makers/investigators/archaeologists claimed could be those of Mary, Joseph, Jesus, his brothers and...

...the enigmatic Mary Magdallen....plus that of a child, possibly of Jesus and Mary Magdallen. The makers also claimed that as this was a family tomb and MM was unrelated by blood to this family then it could mean she was related by wedlock to Jesus! There was also a lot made of the statistical possibilities of names as above being in the same tomb, this being if not necessarily solid proof then at least an indication. I could go on for ages but it was fascinating and quite extraordinary. I read Holy Blood, Holy Grail many years before the Da Vinci Code was first published and find these theories fascinating. When I finally got round to reading the Da Vinci Code (I am always slow to pick up on the cool or trend books and movies) I found the first half quite exciting and interesting, even if not new in its theories, and got through it in a couple of days. It then seemed to drag to a halt and it took me weeks to make myself finish it -- I hate not finishing a book. It really is not well written although the plot was interesting and good, at least at the beginning til it spiraled off to nowhere really. The film wasn't really that hot either sadly. But back to this documentary. I haven't seen or heard anything about this tomb, the discovery or the theories of the Jesus family tomb so don't know where it came from but if anyone has read a book about this please let me know the title ...or send me a signed copy!!! It's a shame there are not more of these thought provoking docs on airline channels. I do enjoy Bruce Willis et al but it can be good to wake up some dormant brain cells occasionally with something a bit more stimulating!!

Arrived in Nippon about 6:30 and was at the hotel by about 8:30, which is pretty good. Immigration was slow but when through the bags were already off and my car waiting and the 19km (I was told by the driver) took less than an hour. In the eighties it could take 4 hours to get from Narita to a hotel in central Tokyo but the Japanese deal with problems very effectively and in a very focused manner so those traffic problems are long gone relative to those days.

This is I think my 25th visit here - not just MAIDEN but also a number of times with W.A.S.P. and HELLOWEEN who are also very successful in Japan - in fact HELLOWEEN with Kai Hansen were apparently playing the night I would have arrived with the band so missed them again. First class people both bands.

Hooked up laptop and emptied the busy outbox, took care of some other stuff and ate a lot of the very nice fruit basket our promoter had left in each of our rooms. This is standard for Japan where hospitality and welcome (and departure) gifts are still generally a tradition. Unusually nothing from the record company though. I am meeting them tomorrow as not at all happy with their performance here. Not the lack of fruit, the sales!! More...

The "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 08" was inspired by Maiden's recently released DVD, "Live After Death" (New Door Records/Ume). Filmed and recorded over four spectacular nights at Long Beach Arena on the "Powerslave Tour" in 1985, this has long been a benchmark for rock concert videos and live albums, and the CD remains one of the biggest-selling live albums ever with sales in excess of six million worldwide. With the video having been largely unavailable for many years, the fans' massive interest in this legendary concert continues to this day with the DVD debuting at No. 1 on charts around the world (including The UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark and Finland), as well as No 2 on the Billboard USA Chart and in Canada.

This tour revisits the band's history by focusing almost entirely on their classic 80's period in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which is based around the legendary Egyptian Production of that "Powerslave Tour" as portrayed on the Live After Death DVD. This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented. Furthermore, the band intends to bring along for this summer leg of the tour the colossal mummy of Eddie, as featured on the Live After Death DVD, along with various other elements of the show that would not fit on their 757 on the first leg of this tour, which included the shows at the Forum and Izod Centre. Sadly no jumbo has a door big enough to fit in such a massive and imposing monster.

Says vocalist Bruce Dickinson: "We are all greatly looking forward to getting back to see our fans in places like Texas, the South West and Seattle where we haven't played for quite some time. And for this leg we will be able to bring along all Eddie's toys which we couldn't get on our plane during the first leg. We are all having a great time on this tour and really can?t believe the excitement it is creating round the world and the huge numbers of people who are turning out to see us. It makes for a really very exciting time for all of us, fans and band alike."

Maiden kicked off their record-breaking "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 08" in Mumbai, India on February 1st, before it rolled into Australia and Japan earlier this month - their first visit to the country in 15 years. Sky News joined the band from departure in the UK through the Indian leg to document Maiden's enormous international profile They received an unprecedented amount of coverage which rolled across the network for two whole days. View the links below to experience the Maiden Boeing 757, the fan hysteria and exclusive footage of the first night of the tour in Mumbai. Channel 9 News in Australia also caught up with the band landing in Sydney and cameras around the world are expected to follow the band throughout this tour.
