Dimmu Borgir Move Album Release Date Up

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have pushed up the North American release date of their new album, "In Sorte Diaboli" (via Nuclear Blast Records), to April 24 from the previously announced May 8. The CD will now arrive in Europe on April 30 (April 27 in Germany).

"In Sorte Diaboli" was recorded and mixed at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producers Fredrik Nordström and Patrik J. Sten.

Silenoz previously told Revolver magazine that the songwriting and recording process for the group's long-anticipated follow-up to 2003's "Death Cult Armageddon" involved none of the intensive pre-production of their last two discs, no demos, and no gallinvanting around with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. "It's definitely going to sound way more epic and bigger than we thought, because Mustis [keyboards] has also contributed with his keyboard ideas," said Silenoz. "I have to admit that some of the keyboard things on 'Death Cult Armageddon' sound better on the demo version than [their symphony versions] on the album. I probably shouldn't say that, but it's true."

This will be DIMMU's first "concept album," a story set in always-epic Medieval Europe that also serves as a treatise on the modern-day political and social abuses of organized religion. "There's this dude that works as a priest's assistant, and after a while he just discovers that he has nothing to do with Christianity," said Silenoz of the storyline, which he conceived in full before even a note of music was composed. "He just sort of has this awakening and realizes that he has different abilities and different powers and is leaning more to the dark side."

DIMMU BORGIR's current recording lineup is as follows:

Shagrath - Vocals
Silenoz - Guitars
Galder - Guitars
Vortex - Bass
Mustis - Keys
Hellhammer - Drums

Nick Barker Is Still A Member Of Benediction

Long-running British metallers BENEDICTION have released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"A lot of questions have been asked about [the status of BENEDICTION drummer] Nick Barker [formerly of DIMMU BORGIR and CRADLE OF FILTH]. Yes, he is still BENEDICTION's drummer, and yes, he is helping TESTAMENT out on drums on their tour and album. This was discussed between us and it is no problem to either band. Put yourself in Nick's shoes — one of your favorite bands of all time asks you to use your drumming skills on their tour and write on their new album; it is a chance of a lifetime! It was talked about on both sides and Nick had our full blessing on this. On some of the festivals in Europe this year he will be playing sets for both bands on the same day! If you know Nick, then you will know that there is no problem with stamina! How many bands do various members of NAPALM [DEATH] play with on top of their own NAPALM DEATH thing? Frank Healy and Dave Hunt from BENEDICTION also play and record with other bands (ANAAL NATHRAKH, MISTRESS, CEREBRAL FIX). The loyalty within the band is also strong so we have no problems about these things happening. Nick could have left BENEDICTION if he wanted. We said we would understand if he wanted to join one the most legendary outfits in the world. He wanted to stay as a part of BENEDICTION. That speaks volumes. BENEDICTION is a unit, not a single person. Our live shows this year will let the music do the talking for us."

BENEDICTION's new album, "Killing Music", will be released later in the year via Nuclear Blast Records, with whom the band recently re-signed. The CD will mark the recording debut with the group of drummer Barker, who was most recently a member of BRUJERIA and who played with ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares in the short-lived DRIVEN BY SUFFERING (working name).

Dimmu Borgir Putting Finishing Touches On Album

DIMMU BORGIR are currently putting the finishing touches to their as-yet-untitled forthcoming album with Fredrik Nordström at Fredman Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden. The album, due out early next year via Nuclear Blast, is said to be "a story based album with lyrics written accordingly". Guitarist Silenoz has issued the following studio diary entry via the band's website:

"Finally! I guess this time is as good as any to say we’re ready for mix! Although there are actually still a few bits and pieces left to do on keys, at this stage in the process we’d like to think of them as minor details. We’re all going home for a few days, to clear our heads and ears, except for Fred and Pat (Power - aka Patrik Jerksten) as they will begin to mix pretty much right away. We’ll join them again by the end of next week. We’ll then also meet up with director Patric Ullaeus and the Revolver Film Company to discuss and throw around ideas for the new video!"

Dimmu Borgir Recording New Album

Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir have entered Studio Fredman with producer Fredrik Nordström to begin recording their new album for an early 2007 release via Nuclear Blast Records. Guitarist Silenoz issued the following statement:

"So, just to let you know, everything moves along nicely in the studio, perhaps a bit too well?? With past studio ghost experiences in mind, something is just bound to happen? I'm sure of it. Well, apart from being the typical pessimist, at least it didn't take us too long to get all the basic rhythm guitar tracks down and even better - it sounds awesome! A fat and razor-sharp tone, without compromise, hitting you right between the eyes! Proper equipment, Engl amps, ESP guitars and Seymour Duncan pickups make things hell of a lot easier, I say. Leads/solos and acoustic/clean guitars will be laid down later when everything else is ready. Bass and keys are up next. We expect it to sound nothing less than grandiose once this beast is finished. Oh, yeah, almost forgot, we have the album title as well, but we're not gonna announce it until the time is right!"

Dimmu Borgir Complete Drums For New Album

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have entered Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström to begin recording their new album for an early 2007 release. The group has issued the following update on the recording process:

"Drums [by Hellhammer of MAYHEM fame] are completed! It went surprisingly smooth, considering the fact that a couple of tracks hadn't even been properly rehearsed in advance like we're normally used to. Besides, final adjustments always happen in the studio. Even if you think you've got everything nailed down at the practice pad, last-minute changes are known to give albums that little extra, and once you start recording it all comes clear. And with effective working hours and extensive shifts with complete focus on the job, things don't have to take long. Next up are rhythm guitars and hopefully it will be an experience just as effective and enjoying as it was doing the drums."

DIMMU BORGIR's current recording lineup is as follows:

Shagrath - Vocals
Silenoz - Guitars
Galder - Guitars
Vortex - Bass
Mustis - Keys
Hellhammer - Drums

Guitarist Silenoz previously stated about the new CD, "It will be a story-based album with lyrics written accordingly and music wise it'll be…let's see….hmmm… very DIMMU BORGIR! We can't wait to have this monster finished and share it with our fans as they have been extremely patient with us, but we promise — it'll be well worth all the wait!"

DIMMU BORGIR recently became the first band on the Nuclear Blast USA roster to sell more than 100,000 copies of a full-length album with their "Death Cult Armageddon" (2003) release, according to sales figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

DIMMU BORGIR's video for the track "Sorgens Kammer – Del II" has been posted online at NuclearBlast.de (Real Media). The clip was shot last fall in Sweden with director Patric Ullaeus of Sweden's Revolver Film Company.

"Sorgens Kammer – Del II" is one of the new tracks included on the updated, re-recorded version of DIMMU BORGIR's 1996 album, "Stormblåst", which was released in Europe in November via Nuclear Blast Records (the North American release followed in February). The album was completely re-recorded with producer Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) and MAYHEM's Hellhammer on drums.

"We'll be back with more news as things progress in the studio!"
