The ever-evolving Swedish band Opeth will return to North America in support of most recent studio album, "Heritage." The tour will kick off on April 18th in Buffalo and will take the band throughout North America on a 30+ city tour. Katatonia has been confirmed as direct support for the tour.
There will be several dates of note during Opeth’ s North American run. On April 20th, Opeth will be making a stop to headline alongside Anthrax, Hatebreed, and Suicidal Tendencies at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. The April 28th show in Clifton Park, NY will see Åkerfeldt’s Storm Corrosion collaborator and friend Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree join Opeth for a special evening that is not to be missed.
There will also be two rare and intimate evenings with Opeth planned for Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on April 29th and The Roxy in Los Angeles on May 24th. These shows will allow fans the unique opportunity to experience Opeth like never before.

Well, I'd bet that "these shows will allow fans the unique opportunity to experience Opeth like never before" means "acoustic renditions of previously heavy songs," and the Storm Corrosion collab night will definitely be non-growling, but who knows about the rest of it.

I'll catch 5/8 at Buster's. I'm scheduled to be off on 5/10 anyway, so it's a good excuse to take 5/9 off for a super-long weekend spearheaded by an Opeth gig.
My expectation is that this will indeed be a less metal tour. The growing pains of "Heritage" weren't for nothing. Like it or not, he'll stay the course. Ackerfeldt is done with metal.

All ya do for a non-growling show is substitute beer for weed. Haha. I still love Opeth but I don't think I'd ever pay to see them play a snooze fest setlist again (saw them last non-growling expedition with Katatonia and it was VERY disappointing).
I will say though, despite having metal blue balls and being almost lulled to sleep, they sounded really good playing what they did. :p

That would be the ultimate surprise though, and Ackerfeldt remains the master of curveballs.
Everyone comes in expecting "Heritage" and acoustic tracks and acoustic renditions from previous albums, and the band open with "Godhead's Lament" and close with "Demon of the Fall".
It'll never happen. But one can dream.

I might go see them at Either the Orange peel or the Lincoln Theater if its a cheap enough show. I saw them In Charlotte at the Fillmore last may and they were really good even though they only played two death metal songs but I did not mind I actually enjoy the lighter stuff but I would still want them to play some death metal because it is much better plus it would not feel like a complete show if they did not at least play the grand conjuration which is the song they closed with at the Fillmore.

Halifax? Sweet! I hope this isn't another non-growling tour, but I'll be attending regardless.
