Mayhem Rumors

Rumors continue to circulate around the possible departure of Mayhem vocalist Maniac (aka Sven Erik Kristiansen), who rejoined the band on Misanthropy's Wolf's Lair Abyss.

Maniac reportedly left the stage before Mayhem's set was over at their second Finnish date, where bassist Necrobutcher (aka Jorn Stubberud) and guitarist Blasphemer (aka Rune Erickson) finished the show handling the vocal duties. Current speculation on the event point to an unspecified medical condition Maniac has as reasons for the vocalist leaving the stage.

In more unconfirmed news, former Mayhem and current Tormentor vocalist Attila Csihar is apparently being reconsidered for the job. Csihar snarled his way to infamy on Mayhem's genre-defining album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Mayhem's official site, www.thetruemayhem.com acknowledges the rumor but seems to be scrambling to put a formal press release together on the matter.

We'll have more on the situation as it occurs, but for now it's official Mayhem have cancelled their upcoming No Mercy Festival dates with Immortal, Hypocrisy, Vader and others.
