I've caught them three times now.
Once during their tour for 'Around the Fur', which might have been one of the most deafening and frenzied shows that I caught in my teens. Again during 'White Pony' cycle, Chino was drunk -- it was AWFUL! Then in 2010 for 'Diamond Eyes' in which the slow and mid-tempo songs sounded studio perfect. Heavier and faster songs were ... rougher. Great sound for an airplane hanger though and best set list too.
I'd go with the expectation that it should be great or at least good with the a slight chance of train wreck. Chino takes better care of himself now and the band have really tightened in recent years.

B - Well, now I want to know how Sabbath was.?.?
RM - I'd say you thoroughly answered my question, thanks. Too bad about the 'White Pony' show...one of my favorite Deftones albums. With 2 kids, I look at this as a Friday night out in Charlotte. Can't really go wrong with that, even if Chino is drunk.

Deftones are certainly hit or miss live, having seen them 4 times. Saw them on the 99 Sabbath reunion tour, good, short set! They played only about 25-30 minutes on that tour.Their new album is in my top 5 of '12, so I will personally try to see them on this tour!

cozen: SABBATH themselves were a great band. Played the songs perfectly and with expert precision!! However, I left halfway through their set because OZZY was trying to steal all of the attention!! It was the original SABBATH, so I cant complain there, but fkn OZZY being the wanker he is....PANTERA, however, absolutely kicked a$$ that night!!!

I saw them after Adrenaline and before Around the Fur was out I think. Chino was a little wasted, but it was one of the best shows of my 20s and very memorable experience overall. I'd probably check them out again if they came to DC/Baltimore now, even though I'm not a fan of the much after the first 3 albums, but it looks like they're skipping this area on this tour.

The Deftones were amazing in the 90's. I have a nostalgiac fondness for my first and most recent Deftones shows.
If you like the first three albums, I would strongly recommend the two most recent albums. Some tracks required some repeat listens but it was well worth the time. They're far better than the terrible collection of b-sides and the "meh" 2003 self-title and 'Saturday Night Wrist' albums.

B - hell of a lineup there. Hate I missed Pantera. I take it you won't be attending the Charlotte show?
RM - think I'll just have to see for myself. I'm expecting heavy doses of 'Koi' and 'Diamond' with a tour of early greatest hits sprinkled throughout. 'Saturday Night Wrist' is by far their worst effort.
DB - as RM stated, I'd reintroduce yourself starting with 'Diamond Eyes' followed by 'Koi'

The latest album while it is a great album - doesnt come close to Diamond eyes in my opinion. There arent too many bands that release an album that you can listen to from start to finish and say - I love every song on the album. I cant wait for their Australian tour next year cause I finally get to see them indoors(in a 1000 person venue) not at a festival like the last 2 times Ive seen them

'Diamond Eyes' was as good as 'White Pony' if not better. That said, my favorite will always be 'Around the Fur' with 'Adrenaline' right on its heels. I think 'Koi' is a good album but some of the tracks are slow-growers. I don't often run into that with the 'tones but 'White Pony' had some songs I didn't like until a year and half post-release.
I love that this band can challenge me with a 3 and a half minute pop song. Most bands can't/won't/don't do that.
