'Accelerated Evolution' was the height of DT, most of his fans will disagree but that album had some amazing songs and as - _ - .... put it, much less of the cheese.
Townsend will always be eclipsed by SYL. The classic 'City' and the very good 'Alien' have aged well. 'The New Black' had its moments but most of the DTP material just doesn't sit well with me at all. Same for Ziltoid etc.

Some people like cheese, while some don't.
Personally, I thought the Deconstruction album was genius - even with the glorious cheese (and the all beef patties, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun).
The music was amazing, and if you've seen any live clips, it's that much more impressive to see it pulled off live.
The Ziltoid shtick is just 'part of the charm'. You either get it or you don't.
Looking forward to this release, too.

To me I think my favourite DT album might be Ziltoid, which is obviously not a popular opinion but I stand by it. The humour doesn't even really contribute, I'm talking on a pure musical level the songs blow me away time and again. Deconstruction was good but I think Ziltoid beats it in comparison (because they are quite similar in many ways).

Accelerated Evolution is easily the best album Devin Townsend has created (For me, Alien would be a close second). Not a single disappointing song on the album. The album is intense, diverse, mature, musically amazing, lyrically amazing, etc.
I admire and respect Devin Townsend. Definitely one of the best metal vocalists of all time. Also, one hell of a guitarist. With that said, I don't care too much for his corny/funny metal productions. It's just hard to be moved by it. I thought Deconstruction and Ziltoid were very overrated. Deconstruction, in particular, could have been so much better considering all of the guest talent on the album.
P.S. this new single flat out sucks. Nothing stood out as interesting to me...

I thought 'Biomech' was musical genius but some of the vocals and lyrics (as commonly happens with Townsend albums) cause me a lot of twitching when the cheese/corn levels reach critical mass. 'Terria' too was quite beautiful but the same spasming hits when Townsend hit certain words and vocal notes.
I think my two favorite DT (not SYL) songs are "Depth Charge" and "Suicide", both from AE.

DT released an 'unofficial' vid for this song too - quite amusing
