I was really looking forward to this but I cancelled my preorder.
I’m sorry Chuck has so many negative feelings towards white people but he has every right to speak his mind.
I have every right not to support racism.
I don’t care what happened 200 years ago, my ancestors weren’t here.
Replace the “evil white man” with any other race and sure enough people call it for what it is, racism.
But since its ok to stereotype and demonize whites, I guess this song is fine and dandy in its blatant racism.
I wonder if Chuck realizes that it’s the evil white man that’s kept his group in business all these years.
Who do you think your fans are???
If you hate the white man’s world so much then you shouldn’t take the white man’s money either.
Whatever, I vote with my wallet and I’d rather give my money to an artist who doesn’t care about the color of my skin.

I've realized over the past few weeks that I tend to REALLY pi$$ off a lot of people.
I'll clarify my above post.
And thanks silvermountains, if Chuck had used this song to show pride in his heritage than I would have applauded his words.
Instead he used this song as a vehicle to lump every white person into one bogus group.
EVERY single negative image in the video was of a white male.
I'm tired of it.
We've been force fed the whole "You're evil because you're white" since we were born.
I think I speak for many whites that are simply tired of hearing how much everyone hates us and how we should hang our heads 24-7 because of things that happened so many years ago.
Why should I care?
My ancestors were in the former Soviet Union getting their a$$es handed to them by Stalin.
What was left of my family fled here.
Do you see me over in Russia screaming "You owe me"
First of all Russia would laugh at me.
Then they'd probably shoot me.
I have told my story to Native American and African American coworkers and their response is always..."Yeah, so what?"
Well......and you expect ME to care what happened to YOUR ancestors?
I don't.
I understand bad things happened back then. I'm not blind.
But I'm tired of being blamed for things that neither I or my ancestors did.
I owe you nothing.
And I have every right to celebrate my white pride without being called a white supremacist.
NO MORE WHITE GUILT.
Sorry but like I said, Chuck has every right to voice his opinion. I have every right not to give them my money.
It's really that simple.
Bummer, too bad they had to ruin a great album with this crap.

The video isn't available in my country, but from the sounds of things I'd be better off listening to Guilty Of Being White by Minor Threat.
I've had a read of the lyrics though. Not sure how to take them, but I don't feel offended. I don't think Chuck Billy is a racist, if he was, he wouldn't be in a band with so many white people, playing music which features a predominantly white audience.
I don't find the lyrics any more hurtful than old Ice Cube material or whatever. If he really does have a problem with white people, let him have his hissy fit, but the lyrics may be more written from the view of a Native American under invasion at the time, than a descendent blaming others for the behaviour of their ancestors. No-one cried racism when Iron Maiden wrote "Run To The Hills" because they're white, maybe it's from the same point of view but not expressed in such a clear way.
In the grand scheme of things though it doesn't matter because I haven't been impressed with the new songs I've heard, so I won't be buying the album, and I can't view the video anyway because I'm not American, native or otherwise.

@Oz....hmmmm this is why I hesitated to write anything on this article....
Am I being overly sensitive?
Maybe...
Is Chuck racist?
I never used to think so but this one had me scratching my head.
The song may very well be aimed at the "white establishment".
I understand that.
But try and look at it from a white Amercan's point of view.
Morning, noon and night we're bombared by "we hate whitey"..from music, to the media to everything in between.
This song itself just may be poorly written lyrically.
Either way, I had the chance to preview the whole thing on Youtube and it didn't really blow me away anyway.
Great lead work though.
If one thing is true, Testament hasn't gotten this much media attention since the old days.
First they're printing statements regarding the usage of blast beats and now this lol.
I dunno.
It just doesn't sit well with me.
I listen to music to be entertained and "kill whitey" really doesn't amuse me a whole lot.
Overly sensitive?.......
I keep trying to envision how people would react if this were a white man singing about a non white.
Would I still be overreacting?
Slayer covered "Guitly of being White" and took some crap just for covering that and yet people will let any insult to the white race slide?
No.

I don't find this racist ( Although it will seem that way when only white people are doing the wrong). I find the video is showing pride for being native and embacing ones native roots and traditions. There are a lot of harsh things that happen to natives all over north america still to this day by racist a**holes who don't appreciate or understand natives culture. I think the director was trying to show that , but did put Testament in a hard spot by making them seem racist by how he portrayed a message of pride under prejudice and protecting native land.

do love the new album
and yes chuck is right the white people untill today still did not give some form of excuse to the native indians
do have lots of friends who are members of the pomo tribe and do have to say lissen to them when they speak shame on the early americans it was than cool to take the land and ok to kill any native american who did live on that piece of land till now nobody gives a ratt a$$ on what has happend to them but we all cry for thew jews on what has happens to them or whats going on in the middle east stop pointing a finger at other countrys look at you own first on what you have done
but this is besides the fact still the new testament a good album

Picking on white people for crap that happened years and years ago doesn't look cool or empowering. It looks like you just want to stay at the lower level you think you're being put at and pick on the big old white man because you happened to be on the losing side. Get over it. Evolve. We're talking crap that happened eons ago when everyone was dumber regardless of race and didn't even know the world was round.

HHHHEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Y'all just leave my chubby Ind'in boy alone, he ain't no goddamned racist
That said, I DO fvcking despise ANY form of racial pride: "justifiable" insidious bigot bullsh!t right there people, don't fvcking lie to yourselves
I don't give a fvck where yer from or what goddamned race or culture, or if ya got purple and green leopard spots and smoke cotton candy out of a hookah: if you're cool, we're down....if ya ain't, well, then ya better stay the fvck outta my way eh :)
I know plenty of indians that are fine, stand-up folks....also know more than a few whom aren't worth their weight in fvcking dogsh!t...the same goes for EVERY other race of people I've shared experience with...get in my face with some racial fvcking CONJECTURE, I'll kick yer goddamned ign'ant ass...teach ya the fvcking manners yer half wit ma and pa didn't
I will also not tolerate 'victimization' or a 'persecuted/stygmatized' perspective, such is the way of the snivelling and weak-hearted pvssy...a disgraceful and nauseating attitude
And all the touchy feelies would do well to not fergit The Gathering had a Injun Pride tune on it as well...though perhaps not quite as inflammatory lyrically
In any case, I highly doubt racist innuendo on ol' Chuck's part...he is attempting to relate a piece of a story that is formative to his nation/people, a story with countless facets of plot and their far reaching, seldom understood/falslely interpreted implications and ramifications, a story that can never be neatly distilled down into a generalized and homogenized 'paint by numbers', user friendly medium....indeed, it is a saga that couldn't be fully told in a thousand volumes
And don't so goddamned thsenthsitive :)
HHHHHHEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY!! HEVY METALL IND'IN BOY!!!!

Ok, FINE.
So I’m a little touchy about my race…SUEEEE MEEEE!
I happen to like my people.
I happen to like looking like chalk with feet.
I guess I just want a big hug from Chuck telling me it’s ok.
…and I cancelled my preorder too late.
Guess what’s coming in the mail from Amazon tomorrow?
Oh well…I’ll just skip over that track.
White man’s world…hmmph!!!
I’m fat, white and a f@g.
I’m more oppressed than all of you combined.
At least Native American’s can get married.
WHERE’S MY HANDOUT?
WHERE’S MY CASINO?
I’M ENTITLED D**N….YOU…ALLLLLLLL!!!

^:) ....nah brother, you are far from being a pvssy, and I do understand and generally concur with your points...I like "my" people too, "my" people just happen to come in lots of different colors ;)
As for me, my WHITE a$$ family has been in New Mexico since well before it was a state, and when ANY motherfvcker tries to pull some territorial bigoted bullsh** because I'm a goddamned honky, well, that's when this ol' bull sees red and starts a nice little bucking rodeo :)
Its nice to appreciate one's own heritage, when it becomes a point of pride to the extent that it becomes imperative to personal identity, well, then you've got youself a psychological malady....from which 95+% of the human population suffers

BrianMN,
So if you're fat, white and a f@g, I figured you'd be more jolly, happy and gay. lol.
Honestly, I've listened to this song a few times and checked out other lyrics on this album, and I don't really see the racism. The only controversial lyric is "This white man's world won't tell me what to do." I don't see that as downing us pale faces, but more of a refusal to conform (which is a sentiment deeply engrained in metal.) With the song being about his heritage, what other lyrics could be placed there and still have the same impact with the Native Americans? I don't see the video being racist either. It does show 3 white guys in the video growing up as the antagonists. But it also shows a white girlfriend and a few other white people listening to him, so I don't see where it purposely tries to cast ALL white people as bad, just those who try to steal from them.
If you don't like those lyrics, you can ignore them or even make up your own to sing instead. Here's three...
"This white bread world won't tell me what to do."
"This red man's words won't tell me what to do."
"This wet fat turd won't tell me when to poo."
Feel free to make up your own... :)

I also agree that Hellrat summed it up best.
My main issue really wasn’t so much with the lyrics.
But the imagery in the video ticked me off.
They could have thrown some Asian or Mexican kids under the bus too. (kidding)
But yes, I am touchy when it comes to race.
I’d say my hood is pretty much 50% white, 30% black, 20% Asian, Latino, Native American.
It’s a good mix of folks and I’ve met too many wonderful people over the years to let the few ba$tards ruin it.
But trust me…I’ve been on the receiving end of MANY a racist comment over the years and it’s not fun.
Hence my outrage over racism being shown as a white only issue.
Not to get too far off topic but just this past summer up in Duluth we had a bunch of billboards stating…
“It’s hard to see racism….if you’re white”.
Needless to say, people were NOT happy.
I’ve seen racism come from every race out there and that’s my real issue with the generalizing so many people in this country do, especially the media.

^to your credit man, I didn't see the vid (it won't play for me either Oz, even though i AM a Native American, even if i ain't no ind'in ;)
Brian, I grew up in a town that during that period was demographically about 25% white, 20% Taos Pueblo, and pretty much the rest Spanish (DO NOT call the beans Mexican, Latino, or Hispanic...they are SPANISH goddamnit; and DON'T call the injuns 'native Americans'...they are IND'INS)...we had a few black families, some Asian Indian, Viet Namese and Cambodian adopted kids, and some Euro imports...all of whom were classified as 'Anglo'...yes, i'm serious
Them indians and spanish HATED the fvck out of us 'gringos', and we few indigenous white hairs had to incessantly kick them fvckers asses to prove our worth...it was tough business
Nowadays, some of my finest friends and colleagues, and indeed, married-in family are spanish or indians of various tribes....also get along well with many of my black, asian, and eurotrash 'honky' brethren as well ;)
In fact, the people I despise most in the world are predominately WHITE...but that sure as hell don't mean I subscribe to some fvcking 'white guilt' bullsh!t...I am an individual, I WILL NOT be held accountable for another individuals beliefs or actions
At the same time, I am what I am, and if someone sees fit to try dominating me under ANY general pretext, they will certainly find that they have opened Pandora's Box of Hell, and I bid them Good Luck ;)

Your upbringing is definitely interesting.
Different from mine and I don’t think we’re that far apart in the age group either.
There just wasn’t that much physical confrontation when I was growing up.
Probably because you have a bunch of Swede’s and Norwegian’s up here and none of us care enough to get off the couch.
Granted, grade school was 30 years ago.
There was a lot of verbal abuse but you rarely heard about extreme violence.
Knives were VERY rare and only in the worst public schools.
Guns were a non-issue.
And the reason most fights were minimal was because we all had one thing in common.
We were a lot more afraid of our parent(s) than we were of each other.
That went for EVERY race when I was growing up, you fought, you got home, you got WHUPPED!
And if you’re lucky the neighbors didn’t whup you on the way home to get whupped.
But nowadays?
It seems like the guns and knives get grabbed over the slightest “funny look”.
The racial slurs are still frequent but heck, I don’t even look any more people are so nutty.
But it’s also funny you say Indians don’t like Native American.
Opposite up here.
Same with Hispanic.
I think a lot of it has to do with the weather.
Stinkin hot humid summers and winters that have sub zero temps for weeks on end.
We’re also super liberal and PC to the extreme and that’s a lot of it.
MN nice my a$$, bunch of crabby old f’ers up here.

This song got exactly the response it was supposed to........or so it seemed! Remember I didn't read all the comments lol.
Is anyone even surprised that this is getting responses like this and some people like it while others hate it?.......on the internet! Woah! =P

I'm late to the party, but thought I'd chime in here. This song is hands down my favorite on the album. I really care much about the lyrics either way. I am not going to call anyone racist here, but I was unimpressed with the video. It just didn't not connect with me at all. Oh well, I'm not much on videos anyway.
I'm slowly warming up to a bunch of songs on the album and liking it more with every listen. It's definitely much better than Formation of Damnation, although I've warmed up to that a little more now as well.
39. writes:
Formation of Damnation was one of those albums where I kinda bought into the hype, listened to it, raved about it, but never listened to it again bar the odd song. The Gathering was better. This and True American Hate are the only songs from the new album I've heard, and neither of them sounded very interesting to me. Then again, I'm a cynical arsehole.

ooh ya Oz man...the Gathering is not only TESTAMENT's most ripping record, it also comprises Bombardo's finest hour...Slayer, side projects, or otherwise

I picked up the new Testament the other day and I like it. I think the riffs are just as good as any of the old stuff. Some of Chuck's vocals may be on the decline but all in all a good effort from them. Not as surprising as Formation of Damnation was but definitely a solid album.
