"Warheads!
Long time no speak! Hehehe, I know, my fault. Well, since the last installment I've been recording vocals. All has been going well. I have finished 3 songs so far. And before I tell you what 3 songs I have completed I think it's about time I revealed the track listing for the album. So here it is:
"The Beginning of The end"
(In no set order as of yet)
1) Apocalypse
2) Forgotten Demise
3) Safe Haven
4) Dust To Dust
5) Betrayed
6) Taunted Souls
7) Empty
8) Origin (instrumental)
9) Eternally
10) Beginning of The End
11) Eye For an Eye
12) Fate
There you have it! As you can see the majority of the album is new material which most of you haven't heard. When it came down to choosing the songs for the album Murray (head producer) chose these tracks because he felt they represented where we are "today" as apposed to choosing tracks that represent where we "were". Don't get me wrong though. We love the rest of the songs from our "2001 Demo" and perhaps they will end up on future releases, whether it is collectively or individually, in some form or another. But at this point in time, we felt it was important to record newer materialand have something different to offer. And I'm quite glad we did as it's turning out great.
So, back on track...I've finished the vocals for 3 tracks. "Taunted Souls", "Empty" & "Betrayed" are all complete. I discovered a lot about my vocals in the last few weeks. It took me a while to get back into the swing of things and get my voice sounding the way I wanted it to, as I haven't sung this intensely in a very long while. I learned that your voice can become "out of shape" if certain techniques are not used for a while. Take a lot of the higher singing that I’ve done in the past for instance; it took me a while to find the "spots" in my throat to allow me to hit such high notes again. This was difficult at first though as I hadn't hit most of these notes since the last demo. When singing the songs live many of the higher harmony parts don't get covered because there are only 4 of us and the other guys can only sing so high at that. So I'm left to cover only some of the more limited higher singing. Anyway, after some warming up and some rediscovering of my vocal chords and range, I was back at it. I'm happy to say that my vocals are feeling and sounding better than ever. There's some extremely high singing on this album already. There are notes that I had no clue I could hit on here lol! The whole experience has been amazing thus far. I've been having a blast trying out new and different styles of singing. There's going to be a lot of dimension to the vocals as well as a lot of "moods" on this album. For the first time ever, I actually recorded some "death" growls and screams for the choruses on "Taunted Souls"! Now this is something I've never done before. It certainly sounds quite heavy and very different though. I'm not sure if these growls/screams will end up on the final cut of the record or not, but as of right now I'm really diggin' 'em! We'll see what Murray has to say though...lol. Anyway, that's about it for now. I'll be in tomorrow morning and again on Friday morning to do some more singing. I'll keep you posted...
Hope to see some of you at the Helloween show on Friday night!"
