I'm with you RTB, this festival is almost worse than what Ozzfest became. I'm tired of all these late 90's early 2000's alternative bands that brought nothing but stale sounds to the wonderful world of music playing every festival. Why not try to put together a touring fest like one of the big ones in Europe? So many people here complain about the fact we have none, yet no one with the power tries...... then they complain about sinking ticket sales. The only band here that intrigues me at all is Megadeth. I guess I can just save my money for the many concerts that come through my city instead, I would just appreciate an exposure of bands who actually are passionate musicians that take their time in writing music. Not bands like Godsmack who sit down and try to come up with 3 basic alternative rock sounding riffs with a steady drum beat and a singer who's voice is obviously overproduced. Well that's America for you.....

I don't think this line-up is that bad at all, I'm not really into Godsmack's last couple of albums, I have to agree with the fact that i don't think they are as passionate as they used to be. I do look forward to hearing the offical line-up though. If Machine Head, In Flames, Megadeth, Tool, S.O.A.D, Deftones, and DevilDriver were all on the same bill it would make for a great concert.

Chains: They put groups like Godsmack and Disturbed on the bill because they draw the "middle of the road crowd" which boosts ticket sales ten fold. Instead of complaining about the bands you don't like that are on the bill, get off your arse and support the bands you do like. Even if you have to drive 200 miles to see them. The problem here is that people like you whine and complain that there aren't good festivals here, yet they won't leave the comfort of their own stomping grounds to support the bands they DO like. They simply complain that "nobody good ever comes close to where I live". In Europe, people sometimes travel for days to get to a festival. How many times have you done that? That's America for ya... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha!!! Cry me a river.

Id like to know what chains thinks is a good festival? Because there are many that Ive been too, especially in the last few years! Mayhem last year was f***ing SOLID! I enjoyed Uproar fest as well! Maybe you need to expand your tastes a little bit, I enjoy all types of music, not just metal!
PS- I do hate godsmack!

Don't get me wrong...I love Rob Flynn and MFH and I don't mind In Flames (seen them once before) but overall this festival is simply not worth the 8 hours I would have to travel to see it. To be honest...the travelling isn't even the worst part. Crossing the border is. You ever wonder where Hitler's SS went after the war ended? That's right...they're guarding the US fvcking border. :p

that's funny ES, cause one time we drove into BC through the customs just north of madeleine falls WA, and your guys gave us HELL!
they didn't much like the looks of us, and so requested to search...we said sure, have at it! well, that brilliant agent discovered the five or so small chisels i had w/me, as i had to finish a commissioned wedding panel carving (obviously also had the thing with me as well)...the dude acted like he had just found the fvcking mother lode, he was convinced that i was smuggling in those little tools in order to work illegally in Canada....like i was just gonna whittle out a goddamn timber framed castle with them micro utensils! He put me on the phone to Vancouver to be interviewed by some 'specialist' and then REALLY started tearing sh!t apart, convinced i had some other juicy contraband stashed in there....
anyway, we were there for two fvcking hours, he wouldn't let us in w/the chisels, so we had to pretend to drive back to madeleine to mail the them back to new mexico...we just went down the road and had a picnic by the river
after a suitable interval, we headed back up there, supposedly 'chisel free', and the dude tries to pretend he never seen us before! i said 'you've got to fvcking kidding me, we did (not!) what ya told us to, now let us in, damnit! he rolled over and granted us passage
we spent two fvcking insane, magical weeks in your Super Natural province climbing, mt biking, hitting the lakes, fvcking around....on the way back to the states, we drove over the southern pass (i believe highest in CAN?) headed east to AB, stopped at the top and blazed a fvcking monster marley, and rolled down the hill all hell baked to the border....we pulled up and said 'hey dudes! we're comin home!' the guy looked us over for a long second or two, and said 'welcome back, boys' and off went! still thoroghly baked, of course!
i have MANY other tales involving customs many countries, but maybe some other time....no more 2 finger hen pecking for me :)

ever since they came out with the holiday special presales, I've been looking into the various rumors of the bands that are probably going to be at Mayhem. an I have to say, all of them are great, save for the one or two bands that don't interest me at all. Megadeth, In Flames, Devildriver, Unearth, Godsmack, Machine head, and etc. are all bands i would love to see. despite the fact I've already seen Godsmack 3 times, but they put on a good enough show where it's fun to see them.
Only go for the bands that you want to see not the ones that you don't want to see, and not complain about the ones who are there. for me there's always been at least one or two bands in the mayhem fests, example being: Korn, and Marilyn Manson. instead i was pumped for the bands I wanted to see, being slayer, killswitch, behemoth, Job for a cowboy, black dahlia murder, and all that remains for 09. and for 10 was Zombie, LOG, and hatebreed. and if there's a couple of bands playing in between the bands you want to see so what that's why it's a festival there's plenty to do, if there's a band that's on you don't like walk around with some friends or by yourself, check out the many merch tables, buy a shirt, or something.
plus, everytime i went to mayhem, i always found a bunch of my friends there. so in all honesty, even if there are about one or two bands that i want to see, I'm still gonna go, because mayhem fest has become the pure definition of a festival: music, friends, an experiance like no other, and people just having fun...or messing each other up, which ever you prefer to call it

HR: It's the same here. Canadians coming home are greeted with smiles and are never searched. Funny story though brother! Every single trip to America has sucked for me because I haven't been able to take my "monster marleys" with me. What makes it even worse is American beer is fvcking GARBAGE!! :/

I Imagine BG It's hard bro but you gotta keep showing the scene what you have to offer and show bands that it is worth coming to your area. I think there is more support and devotion in the smaller areas such as Montana and I don't regret a single concert i've gone to no matter how good or bad it was.

ES: I'm going to have to ask you to explain your beer comment. We have some really good brews here. I'm not talking about Miller, Bud, etc, i'm talking micro's. One that I often recommend is Longhammer IPA. Outstanding IPA in my opinion. I'm a connesuer of sorts. lol.
MMM: Absolutely. There's a writer here that lives in that neck of the woods.
Cynic: I second n0things post to you and must add we need another epic story penned by the mighty Cynic.

ya, i know n'head....still haven't seen a worthwhile show in LA to base the BBQ around...now, if machine fvcking head does indeed do this thing, well that would be worthy eh???
we'll have to see what happens i guess, but it would be fvckin cool as hell to get together with all you fvckers!!
ES brother, i can take that insult if you can give me the name of at least ONE Canuck brew that doesn't taste like fvcking moose piss??? :)
the best beer in the world is from czech...india incidentally (and somewhat paradoxically) produces a nice lager as well, can't remember what called right now
i hate pale ales, and i despise most microstews! :)

BG: Yeah I actually know Ty he's a cool dude, he's came out to a couple shows i've put together here in town and has also interviewed my band.
And I want in on this Beer convo, kind of that is, if any of you guys hit up Montana try Moose Drool or Trout Slayer, great beers!

I have been needing to see In Flames for quite some time now... I really hope if they're on the bill that they have one of the last 2 slots, but those positions normally go to more mainstream bands.
Wouldn't it be awesome if Rammstein ever did a big US tour like this, if that ever happens I will be an extremely happy person
Also.. Put Devildriver on this tour as a headliner of the 2nd stage, its way over due

BG: haha, my appologies gentlemen...the statement was more of a sarcastic joke. I've never tried any actual local micro breweries in the states, I'm sure they're fantastic. I love beer and I take micro brewery tours whenever I venture outside my area...as well as wine tasting on occasion (tried 6 bottles from Maynards labels, looking to try Mr. Wongraven's now). I've only ever bought booze in Washington...and I've NEVER seen anything good at ANY of the stores there. It's all p!ss water. All the festivals serve is Coors and fvcking Blue Ribbon. HR, you know I love you...but you don't like micro breweries!? You are aware that micro breweries don't use any preservatives or pasteurization thus making for a much nicer beer flavor AND it actually has nutrients in tact before it's pasteurized...
Canadian beers that don't taste like moose p!ss? hahaha well I have a feeling we share different tastes altogether judging by your comments but here goes: Phillip's Blue Buck, Phillip's Golden Pheonix, Granville Island's Cypress Honey Lager, Granville Island's Maple Cream Ale, Granville's Chocolate Porter (if you like heavy dark beers this is fan-fvcking-tastis), and I'm really liking the taste of some of their newest creations like their alcoholic ginger ale...I had some with a plate of sushi and nearly made a mess of my pants.
BG, I'm a beer lover as well my friend...and a huge IPA fan so if I ever run into Longhammer I will most certainly remember your recommendation! \m/

haha HR, next time you roll up to the border, roll with a fresh kill of a deer carcass tied to the hood of your 77 coup de ville ala mike vronsky in the deer hunter, as you open your car door with with the avalanche of empty rolling rock beer cans hitting the ground, if the ole canadian mounties give you any crap just let out with a "f@ckin AAAAAA! or a " geronimo! geronimo!
one shot HR, one shot....
VPNH, dont forget to holla when your cali bound...just give me enough notice so i can get time off work...
again, from the speculated list of bands possibly performing at mayhem 2011 i most likely pass....

EsotericSurgeryThe microbrew scene in states is where it is at. In my opinion the best IPA's come from California, so if you have the opportunity check out the following: Stone Brewery's IPA, Wipeout IPA by Port Brewing Company, Racer 5 IPA by Bear Republic, Hop Ottin IPA by Anderson Valley Brewing Company, and Green Flash IPA.
MountainManMetal- Moose Drool by Big Sky Brewing Company is a great beer and in my top three favorite brown ales.
Cheers/m\

goddamnit RT!! you and n'head fvckin kill me :)
Fvckin A, eh? Geronimo! Geronimo the Navajo!! yea, i'm aware that ol' Gerry was Apache...but my buddy Kamloops Pete calls all indians 'navajos' ;)
yeah ES, well aware of the evils of the largely over indulged process of pasturization....milk is the worst, hard to find nice raw milk these days, outside keepin a Holstein out in the yard...i used to drink all kinds of crazy beers, but i just have a decreasing interest in 'beers that eat like a meal', if you get my drift? that's why i call em micro 'stews', a lot of em just got way too much goin on in there! too fruity, spicy, pungent, bitter, sweet (the WORST), etc and so forth...ya know? but will keep eys peeled for a couple of these non-caribou-piss canuck brews you mentioned ;)
i do love the browns, and have had Mtn Man's 'Drool a few times as well....quite tasty indeed! as someone who has spent countless hours of my life slaying trout, looks like I'm going to have to track down some of that TS as well!
we still like to hit up our kraut buddy Tomas' place the Bavarian up on the mountain after skiing all day, and drink a couple liters of Franziskaner (a TRUE hefe-weiss...not this north american crap they try and pass off as such)...then have a nice nighttime chinese downhill back down to the base village
many a tipsy feller has been forcefully ejected into the creek in them races! good fun :)
