The Demonstration Posts Lady Gaga Cover of "Bad Romance" Online

North Carolina band The Demonstration recently released a metal-inspired cover of Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance." This week Lady GaGa gave a nod and a link to the band efforts on her official Twitter stating: "Death metal with ice dancing + high fashion you get the Monster Ball."

Since then the story has been picked up by MTV News among other sites.

The cover can be heard on The Demonstration's MySpace page and is expected to be part of a release scheduled for later this year.

I haven't heard The Demonstration version but if it's decent death metal then it doesn't matter if the original was good/bad/whatever. Dissing a metal band just because it re-worked a pop artist's song is insulting to the entire metal community. Metal is what you make it.

Ya metal is what u make it i agree, however there s a code of ethics....and one of those is you dont cover crap like this...do a rock/metal song.....pop culture has destroyed everything imaginable, especially in the last 15-18 years...i d really have a hard time imagining true metalbands condoning something like this and or giving any credit to todays pop culture for...anything..... majority of hollywood/pop artists these days are phoney and or frauds in most sense...when the E! Channel camera is on everyone is sensible, down to earth and giving, but when theres no camera around the hippocracy and the narcistism takes over....this isnt envious at all, i just think bands like this take a huge gamble doing songs like this 1 and 2 i have to question where their balls are at....but like i say sometimes you gotta forget your head and grab your balls in life, they completed half of that

RTB - I agree the vast majority of all current popular music is corporate crap. But look at it another way - a GOOD metal cover of a pop song can be subversive, to the artist and/or the artist's corporate overlords and/or the air-heads who listen to corp-pop. A lame cover *coughLimpBizkitcough* is just sad.

*OK Limp BizKit is faux metal but I couldn't think of an actual metal band that covered a pop song off the top of my head. Anyone know any real metal bands covering pop songs?

Also, things like this once more relegate extreme metal to just a humorous sideshow circus for apathetic mainstream listeners. Then they go away, never knowing about bands like Cryptopsy and Death and think every death metal band is a talentless grunting joke.

Rant over.

I don't think there's any changing that for pop listeners... I mean, pop holds the voice higher than any instrument, so do you think pop fans will ever get past screaming or death vocals to hear the music/instrumentation behind it? Chances are they don't hear much of the instrumentation in the music they listen to - it's all about the singer.

Did you take your pills today cynic? Or are you on vegimite withdrawls...take er eazy...
You sound like don vitto when he s out of veal scalapinni and or bud select....
BG their s always nursery rhymes...i went to a backyard beer bash in so cal about oh, maybe 10 years ago, and they had bands playing in the backyard, low and behold this deathmetal (allegedly) band rolls on set and the guy is holding a book as he s belching his lyrics....they were nursery rhymes...mary had a little lamb, hickory d!ckory dock and all that crap deathmetal style...so maybe greed if the band did ol mcdonald had a farm thrash style, you never know, could put you on the map..

I wasn't talking about you or any of the MU community, I was talking about MTV, Lady Gaga, people who think death metal is a joke etc - i.e. taking the bait.

@DB - I know people will never really understand, but I want to be proud of the fact I listen to death metal and be able to tell people that without them thinking of a joke.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. They could have at least been attention grabbing whores with something thats known and funny, not some annoying pop song you have to hear everywhere you go. If i ever have to hear another Lady Gaga song, or even her name again, ill shoot myself. Anyway, I'm still waiting for someone to do a death metal cover of "Surfin' Bird" by The Trashmen. THAT I might actually check out.

SODOM covered that song.

The crazy thing is....they did it years ago, not after the Family guy episode craze...which means they knew about the bird before anyone did...
