Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine Slams Roadrunner Records

In a recent message to the band's fans, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has spoken in a highly critical manner of Roadrunner Records, the label of which Megadeth is currently signed to. The full message reads as follows:

"I hope that everyone that is in a band and has been watching how things have transpired are taking notes. This record has been out for weeks and weeks, and no radio play from the radio person at Roadrunner, nothing. Zero.

"But that should be expected; this is the same guy I HAD TO ASK to get me interviews. Talk about a Gomer moment!

"Now, I am going to be forced to rely on my own radio station to play Megadeth, but that's ok, I seem to be doing the label's job everyday, in every city, and I am used to it after these last two records.

"I am waiting to talk to the owner of Roadrunner, and all I ask is that you pray that this guy has even a modicum of respect for me and how hard I have been working for him. And he get's the lionshare of the revenue, while I get news that with the best record I have recorded in decades has now dropped off of the charts.

"Kudos Roadrunner, the is the first worldwide critically acclaimed record by the press, and the fans, and you just can't seem to get this right. This is the first time that everyone likes a record of mine, and you can't get us on the radio or into the stores.

"I can't tell you how many stores I go into while on tour and I see nothing. And all I hear from RR is we are committed to the record.

"My ass."

Can't say I don't agree with him. They need mainstream radio representation, and their label should take care of that for him.

Labels don't do that for anyone anymore, unless you're Metallica. This is why downloading hurts the industry. Nobody does promotion for the artists anymore because everyone assumes that people who like it will download it and put it on their MP3's. It's sad, but it is a fact of life at this point.

blindgreed: megadeth is bout the same size as metallica. no excuses for them. what's sad is that it doesn't take much effort or money to get radio airplay (not much in comparison to the money megadeth generates) it's total laziness and bs. honestly i don't download nearly as much major label bands as i used to with (if any at all) because i just go on their myspace and listen to the record and decide if it's something i want. most times it isn't. Dave works hard and deserves better. f*** RR he should be on his own at this point in his career anyway.

z: Metallica is a "no risk" investment in the eyes of their investors and thus contrasts with the D bags at RR. Fan base; i'll agree they are as big, otherwise its apples and oranges.

Mustaine is a hard working guy but I don't unerstand why he doesn't start his own label as he clearly knows all the aspects of the industtry at this point in his life. I guess he shouldn't have to though, as RR should just get off their asses and advertise the new album in some way.

maybe its not the label maybe dave ran his mouth so much people think its cool to hate him or maybe it was over-hyped with the comparisons to rust in peace and countdown. i think its a good album but not rust in peace good or even countdown mainstream (since he wants to throw numbers around) he hit his high point years ago, and though im a huge megdeth fan and love his current work maybe, just maybe, he needs to quit pointing the finger at anyone but himself and just enjoy the ride he still has it all. maybe vic cursed you a$$ for taking him off the cover and making him all homo on united abominations or maybe im wrong

Poor Dave, he can never catch a break, can he? Metallica never had any of these problems. Guess this means it's time to switch labels again.

f*** radio, who are you, Nickelback? I wish Roadrunner would go back to their old ways in the late 80s/early 90s before they started getting succesful and now push for radio exposure. At least they still have bands like DevilDriver, Soulfly, and Trivium who don't need that kinda stuff to be succesful.

I'm adding to my comment above. Machine Head aslo proved especially with their last album that you don't need mainstream exposure to have a succesful album or career. All in all, leave the radio play to the hard rock bands and keep it away from metal bands. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

Chimaira admit to being screwed over by RR, so this isn't new. But you'd think they'd pay better attention and take extra care of Megadeth based on their impact in metal and their platinum sales with Capitol Records. Roadrunner must be run by morons, is all I can say.

RR is just the worst label ever. A very large percentage of RR's bands are lame whores. That's why you dig deeper into the metal underground scene because that's where all the good music is, rather than people like Dave Mustaine and Corey Taylor b****ing all over the place. Dave, clean up your p***y some place else.

Been meaning to comment on this for awhile but I've only been arsed to do so.

What I can't help but think is, Is he seriously saying he didn't know Roadrunner have been piss poor at times with their bands, no matter what their status was? And at least they gave Megadeth the money for a music video which is more than they did for Sepultura when they released "Nation." Roadrunner f***ed over Sepultura, Chimaira, Deicide and numerous others in the past, why is he so surprised when it happens to him? I would also bet that while Megadeth has been signed to Roadrunner, they f***ed over several other bands and I'd put further money on the table that Mustaine was fully aware of it. Just because you're Megadeth, it doesn't mean you're entitled to special treatment.

Something else worth considering is that Roadrunner is owned by a much bigger record label and they want to make sure they have huge selling bands on their hands, hence Nickelback being on Roadrunner, without bands like them, the label probably would have lost its funding a long time ago. I also honestly wouldn't be surprised if the higher power has never even heard of Megadeth. They have some relevance to today's metal world and no-one will ever deny that they are true metal legends, but when it comes to selling a band, being metal legends alone won't nessacarily mean you're guaranteed unlimited promotion and finance, unless you're Iron Maiden or Metallica, who have sold 75 and 100 million albums respectively, compared to Megadeth's 25.

and seriously dont even compare Metallica to Megadeath, its not even fair, maybe if megadave was not such a a$$hole ppl would want to promote the band instead of acting like you have some sence of entitlement, what?? just because you have been making half decent music for 25 yrs

Road runner has sucked for years. They f***ed over the only bands that made them good. As oz said it dose not matter how big you are they will still screw you over look at the misfits BLS, the cult, death, deicide, fear factory, pestilence, jerry cantrell, hatebreed, gorguts, type o. Hell even buzzov*en got f***ed over. RRr sucks a$$ now. Dave is a dumbass for not looking into what they have done to their past bands. If i was in a band and they contacted me I would tell them to go f*** them selves.

well dave is sort of right he want exsposure of his new album even megadeth has a name in the metal sceene it is stll nice to get radio esposure
like for exsample in europe there is not so much metal radio anymore
its more mouth to mouth stuff
dave should start his own label but do think he has not enough money to do this
so he needs that label to promote his things
do think it comes from both ways the label and the band
who need to do his work
and i do think that most record labels are trying to stay alive and not only metal labels the music sceene is hurting rightnow and its getting even more worse due to i tunes and limewire and other sites they are killing the buisniss
the only thing left for a band will be touring and radio exsposure
so understands this time dave mustaine anger
