Metallica Bassist Robert Trujillo Speaks About The Rumoured "Big Four" Tour

Band Photo: Metallica (?)
When recently talking to Metromix, Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo confirmed that the band is trying to put together a tour between themselves, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax, also known as the "Big Four" of Thrash Metal. Speaking on the idea, he said; "I think it's great. We've had a few different conversations on the subject. . . . There's a lot of history there. I think it'd be great for metal. I don't think all four bands have played together at the same time." Pressed as to whether the rumors of the tour were true, Trujillo answered, "There is, but nothing's concrete. It's not a sealed deal. We're working on it."

necrovomit I personally think endgame was great ill have to wait to see what slayers is like eventho my hopes rnt as high since i heard hate worldwide.

For some reason I just cannot see this happening. Unless someone splashes 60mil on the table and every band gets 15.
Why Testament is not on this tour is cos these are as we know the 4 globally best known names in metal from the 80s/90s. Even my mum knows these 4 bands. If Testament was on it - and I agree they should be - Exodus should be on it as well (to which my mum would say "you know I dont read the bible" and probably "Paul Newman was cute on Exodus")

If I really had to pick a thrash 4 it would have to involve Testament. I guess it would be alright seeing Metallica and Megadeth. But I could care less about Slayer and Anthrax. I like them, but not enough to see them live.
Funny thing is, it's Rob Trujillo saying this. He grew up listening to all these guys, and probably dreamed of playing with them one day so.................I'll wait until I hear it from someone else.

It would be pretty cool if it did happen. But I can see it falling apart before the tour is supposed to be done. I mean, come on....Dave Mustaine will have problems with both Metallica and Slayer, not matter how many times he says he's cool with them. If the whole thing doesn't fall apart, it would be likely that Mustaine would have a b**** fit and leave.

This is great, i would do anything to get on that show, this is gonna be the best show there has ever been in history of metal and everything.
THIS MUST HAPPEN. every one put their differences aside and make peace so the show will happen,
and brandon, don't run your mouth dude, ur making haters of testament, get the sh** out u fag

Blindgreed1 - What would you classify Machine Head as then?
Everyone else - Yes, there are many old school bands in better condition currently that I would also rather see. But a Big Four tour is more a symbolic tour.
The best lineups of Metallica with Cliff, Megadeth with Friedman and Ellefson, Anthrax with Spitz and Belladonna (personal preference of mine there. I do like Bush, but prefer Bush with Armored Saint) and Slayer - would be so unbelievably epic that it would likely end up having gone down as legendary.
Nonetheless, I would still very much like to see this.
Cynic - I can understand not being huge on Testament beyond their first four albums. Though I'm a huge fan myself. But have you given "New World Order", "Practice What You Preach" and "Souls of Black" thorough listens? Just curious, because there's a lot of great stuff on those three albums also.

34. writes:
Blindgreed1 - Btw, I wasn't really implying that MH were Metalcore. It such so happens that the majority of bands part of the NWOAHM movement are Metalcore - which is why I put the tag on the end of that. Sure, there are some groove bands like LOG and MH, but many -core bands as well like AILD, God Forbid, Shadows Fall, etc. MH is part of the NWOAHM.
35. writes:
@Why - Not thorough no. I respect them for putting out those 4 thrashy records, but to me the buzz they have been receiving for their latest albums is wholly undue. Those albums are ok, I'd just rate a lot of other thrash albums above those. Maybe I'll give them another spin some time.

Testament's first few albums were great, and I like their newer stuff too, but I don't think the newer material stacks up to the first few albums ("Alone in the Dark" is one of my favorites by them, but I think they did a good job re-doing it with Souza on vocals on "First Strike Still Deadly", but I digress..).
As for this tour, I'd love to see it happen.. but with Exodus and Testament on it as well.

cool idea..... odds are pretty slim though. I give the odds as the same as Chinese Democracy finally coming out. Oh wait, that does not work anymore :) Personally, I think they should do it as a farewell when they decide not to produce anymore music. It would attract so much publicity

i agree with brandedcfh420 ... i think Testament can sh** over all these 4 bands esp. anthrax .... why not testament , Exodus or machine head ... but overall holy sh** ... is it gonna happen one day? if it happens , lars will be my hero ( i heard lars is working on it..)
anyway sorry for my English

Cruor, if we have no influence on others and do not take any heed to what anyone else thinks no matter how knowledgeable or logical, then we have no music community, no metal culture - don't you think?
I agree though, that if you think a group (*cough* Rolling Stones *cough*) are out of touch, over metaphorizing faux music douchebags, then yes their opinion should be meaningless to you. I'm not saying the MA are the final word in metal, but to me I take influence from the opinions of people I respect. If you don't respect the archives, feel free to laugh at my point.

cruor - I think what Cynic is getting at is that the MA have established credibility for itself as being a dependable source for opinions. tbh I've found it more credible than MU.
There's a lot of junk 'mag' news posted on here and way too many embarrassing non-metal bands accounted for (yes, I know why. I don't need that lecture.) I like the site overall though.
59. writes:
I think that in the case of reviews, it is taste, not credibility.
Personally, I think MU does a stellar job of underground coverage. The bigger bands get more comments and flame wars, but if you look past that there is a ridiculous amount of smaller bands that get news on here. Good to see you hanging around by the way cruor!

MTV kinda ruined rock n' roll in my opinion, all they played was sh**ty hair metal in the 80's. even headbangers ball sucks now. but the truth is stupid ppl believe the bullsh** that they get spoonfed from pretty much every magazine publication known to man. and who the hell writes the music reviews for playboy!?!?!? those guys have no taste whatsoever. but yeah big 4 yadayadayada. kreator exodus testament and sepultura should just do an epic tour and the half assed guitarist of metallica can guitar dual with oh say, kerry king, and it would be kool.................
63. writes:
Why?, I didn't even realized Cynic and I are were talking about Metal Underground specifically. I was speaking in more general terms towards others opinions and Cynic was referring to Metal archives. No I disagree on that "good" taste (I really hate that btw doesn't everyone who has an opinion think that theirs is good?) doesn't necessarily mean credibility. What if you think the crack head on main street has good taste in music I would hope you don't find him a credible source in anything. But hey that's just my opinion.

Cynic: MH is NOT metalcore regardless of what some elitist douchebags on MA have compared them to. For fvck sake metal core didn't even exist when Burn dropped. I'll be the first to admit that Supercharger was a stinker and Burning Red had a few duds on it, but come on man... MH metalcore? I know you don't like them but that is going too far brother.
Why: I would classify them as thrashy based groove metal. They've been called many things to date, but that would be my classification of their style from beginning to present.
65. writes:
No no, it was only in reference to their new album "The Blackening". And even then it was just saying they had picked up metalcore elements in that album (honestly I haven't given it enough of a listen to judge anything with conviction).
I would call them groove metal too. But like any band that's been around for a long time, they've experimented with different genres, from more thrashy angles to more groove/nu angles. And as you know I have no problems with either groove or nu-metal. I just don't like core.

This is a reply to Apocalyptimaniac.
you said."20 years ago this would have been great.
The sheer logistics of getting all their wheelchairs into the same venue at the same time is boggling."
You are either too young to understand what these bands achieved for all your copycat metal bands of today, or you've never been in a Slayer Pit before!!!
All of the "Big Four" still kick a$$ today as they did then when they created the music genre all these bands copy!!!

Way to break it down for em IXIONLUX. Educate the metal wanna be douche nozzle. They still kick a$$ and I would give my mother's left arm to attend. Hell......she's old and can't possibly need it for that much longer. Hey....don't hate a metal head just tryin to keep her horns sharp.
89. writes:
I like Metal Undergrounds New snippets. Of course they will have to have at least SOME "Mainstream Metal" media, how else would the site gather member if it was all underground acts?
If anything you could look at it as informing those searching the latest BFMV twitter update, that BFMV suck.
