^both Chinese Democracy and Death Magnetic sucked baby d***. What the hell have you been listening to from those bands that you thought those were great comebacks?
I do look forward to new Alice though. I have a friend who might be more excited by this than me though, considering he's abit of a grunge fan, among other things.

I liked the Formation of damnation at first as well, but then I relaizedI only like one or two songs off it, and even then, i didnt like them all that much. it wasnt a bad comeback for them, it was just, well, not a good one. But I dont really complain when someone says it's a good album, because it is, it's just not in my tastes when I look at all the better songs and albums Testament has in their arsenal.
Chinese Democracy sounded like what would happen if Nickelback tried really hard to be mudvayne. It didnt, to me, sound like Guns and roses at all. Witha line-up almost completely different, they've become a band I dont really care for. Not to mention the fact that axl has a completely different voice on the album. It sounds like the old Axl is singing in the background on half the songs, while some gruff voiced guy does all the work. Besides, can you really call it a comeback album when none of the original members are left in the band besides the singer?
Irregardless, taste in those albums still boils down to personal opinion at the end of the day, so I'll leave it up for debate whether those albums were good.
Metallica though....I'm gonna need a whole 'nother post to write down why their new album is utterly devoid of any worthiness of praise. I'll leave that for another day on this thread if I can find the time lol.

ok im about to get some s h i t for this but i think this song was mediocre... the lyrics dont seem to have that dark vibe to them (which is strange cuz you would think jerry wrote them) and the riff was weak.... the vocalist is great maybe i need to hear the rest of the album... and yea where are the leads even nutshell had a lead cmon guys you said it aint for the money but this is probably the most commercial alice song i heard... now i will turn around bend over and take the digital lashing im about to recieve... dont take it to hard on me not everyone oves every alice song

I liked the song; I mean, I personally gotta agree with Red that the creepiness is still present and that it's good for a first taste; I've been waiting for a drop, and so far, it's not bad at all. I too look forward to hearing more from the new album.
supastan: You have the right to your opinion; however the only thing I don't get is how this song sounds "commercial" to you.

12. writes:
i dont know if commercial was exactly the word i was looking for maybe just weak compared to classic chains. i dont hate it and im not dissapointed there is a point in every bands career where they have their peak and just kinda put out good but not classic sounding music. that may be the case here but like i said i may just need to hear the rest of the album.

WEll it's hard to tell if he sounmds like Layne, because most of the song is double vocals and it seems that they put Jerry's vocals up front mostly. looks like they are very aware of all the debate about AIC without Layne so they are making sure we don't see much difference.
So I guess it was a secure choice for a first song to tame the controversy but for the new singer I guess we will have to wait for the other songs.
Like I said, I enjoy this song but I am still very cautious about the rest.

William doesn't sound like Layne (IMO). He sounds more like... William. AIC has used Jerry up front since Dirt. I like the new sound and look forward to the rest of the album. I'm not much into the grunge thing, but i've always loved the harmonies and song structure in AIC. It's also worth mentioning that William has a heavy hand in the writing process, which is something that Layne never really did.

Yeah I loved the time on that track, it's feels alright too. I found the good ol' AIC in that song. So far so good ! CAn't wait to hear the new stuff. Although of all the bands that came out of Seattle at the same time, AIC where the less grunge band out there.

I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with William when he was in Madfly. The man has mad talent (guitar and vocally). I have been excited about this line up ever since I heard of its conception. The Layne vs. William is media and fan BS. This is going to be an awesome evolution for AIC.

Great Song!!!! My kid finally gets to be involved in A.I.C. dropping a new album. I've seen them in concert with William and he was great!! As long as A.I.C. has Jerry Cantrell they will never lose that dark, melodic sound. Even his solo stuff could be looked on as A.I.C. material. I would agree a solo would have been nice, and hopefully the rest of the album will give us some great solo's. As usual with Cantrell this song has a great riff and dark feel. Looking forward to the rest!!

If it's not too late I'd like to throw my opinion in on Death Magnetic, Chinese Democracy and Formation Of Damnation.
Formation Of Damnation: It wasn't bad. Not bad at all. I think people were more hyped about Testament returning with the mostly original lineup than the album itself though. It had some good songs and I look forward to the next album, but it certainly wasn't their best.
Death Magnetic: To be completely honest, I haven't sat down and listened to this album start to finish. I have the album and have heard all the songs, but not one after the other. However, I liked what I heard. "The Day That Never Comes" was a poor choice for a lead single I thought but works much better on the album. I think it's the closest we'll ever get to Metallica sounding like their days of old so I'm cool with it. And it was definitely better than St. Anger so that's a plus right?
Chinese Democracy: It was alright. It wasn't a stunning album and I didn't expect it to be. If you listen to it with no prior expectations, it's not too bad. It has some good songs on it and some sh**e ones. In it's defence I think people had already made up their minds that it was gonna suck way before the album was released.

Oz, I'm not going to say anything about Damnation as I don't have a clue about it.
But I think your line on Death Magnetic "I haven't sat down and listened to this album start to finish" sums it all up. I think there's a huge problem with 'continuity'on that album. It sounds more like random tracks thrown together on Ipod rather than a true album ( lets pick "Master of Puppets"as an example). It just sounds SO calculated that its more of corporate presentation on a PDF than a rock/metal album.
As for Chinese Democracy, I see it as a failure. It's simply not good RockNRoll and certainly not metal. It's not a good album if you think what G'N'R were once upon a time.
I prefer bands experimenting and trying new things instead of going the Ac/Dc way, but this album is not a step forward, nor going to a next level.
When anything in life that is in your hands to choose to have a part of was once upon a time great is just ok now, It's time to move on. My opinion.

As always the case, too much over analyzing something! Just quickly state what you like or don't like about this song and leave it at that. If you took the time to listen to this song and are a fan, then be happy that there is new material from the band... this band, not the one from the 90's. If you don't like the band's music - move on and listen to something else. Otherwise, shut the f*ck up and enjoy.

I agree with the paratrooper, but the above comments are the reason of these postings. Perhaps a little less on point, but are opinions none the less - eh? Alice in Chains are still worthy of our attention and more importantly worth our hard earned money (purchasing their music LEGALLY).

OMG...This is a long time coming HELL I think the new song is what AIC is all about. They took there time to get this one right. LOVE the new song they could have got a chick with bigger BOOBS...LOL. They were like little knobs on a radio...Nice to see that in there video. Can't wait until they drop new CD to the public.

New song is good. :)
Very heavy, very chunky, very Alice.
1 problem.........there isn't one lead in the song.
Please don't go the Metallica, St. Anger route and have no leads.
Otherwise the new singer is good but as always it's Cantrell who steals the show vocally.
