This playing a whole album deal is getting a bit much I think. It was fine when Slayer did "Reign In Blood" because it's only twenty eight minutes long so you still got time to fit in alot of other songs people want to hear. And when Metallica did "Master Of Puppets" they had a huge amount of time on stage so no-one really went home disapointed but I think now it's gotten a bit silly. I've never felt so ripped off as I did when I saw Iron Maiden and they played "A Matter Of Life And Death" from start to finish and only five old songs and I'm not keen on Judas Priest playing "Nostradamus" in full either (I really like the album, but if that's someone's first Priest show or they didn't like the album then it's gonna get on peoples nerves.) I also think Mastodon are taking a big chance playing their new album live because it hasn't been released yet and everyone could hate it for all they know so it won't be worth going to see them if you only liked the albums they did before that because you won't hear the stuff you enjoy. I think if you're gonna try and really promote an album then play a maximum of six songs from it unless it's your debut album and touring cycle.

I have to agree that unless it's a new album you're promoting, it's not typically smart to play the entire thing through. Like in the case of Dr. Feelgood, Crue needs to remember that 1) a lot of the young fans probably only know Dr. Feelgood and Kickstart from that album anyway and 2) those of us who aren't so young might like to hear some Too Fast, Theatre, Shout at the Devil, Girls, Girls, Girls, etc.

A good show would be a mix of old classics, a few newer songs that don't suck, and then why not toss in a couple of tunes still in the works? That way the fans aren't paying for stuff they've probably already heard hundreds of times over. Sure it's great to hear it live with the power of giant stacks, but when I put in earplugs to protect my hearing, it doesn't sound much different than the CD. Give me the moshiest riffs off of the next album so I can't wait for the release.
