If anyone in metal deserved a lifetime achievement award, it would be Ozzy. Him and Tony Iommi anyway. Ozzy may be a cultural icon, but the invention of an entire genre of music has to count for something right?
It is kind of depressing though that he gets this award right when I've become the most dissapointed with Ozzy. Whatever, he deserves it, and I'm not gonna be the one to try and justify taking it away from him.
guests are interesting though, and for a myriad of reasons, ranging from raised eyebrows, to utter disgust, to girlish excitement, to a proper nod of the head. "Interesting" is the least of words I could use to describe the guest appearances.
I'll most likely watch this. I respect the man enough for that. Metallica's RnR HoF acceptance though....hah. I have laundry to do when that comes on, so I'll just have to miss it I guess... :b

Yeah this is cool... but Ozzy trully deserves to be recognized in a bigger way. The Grammy's or the American Music Awards should give him a good a$$ kissing for all the influence Sabbath and Ozzy have had on 4 generations of not just metal but a few genre's of music.

I agree with you all. Ozzy deserves this award. As much as I like Dio-era Sabbath...Ozzy-era Sabbath is still my preference. I mean those songs stick in my head months after I listen to them. Into the Void...man...such a cool song. The funny this is - I don't have much of Ozzy's solo stuff - just Black Sabbath.

Agree with Wilco here:
Ozzy has earned every award he gets, this goes double for Sabbath as a unit...
But not so much here:
Not a big fan of the shrill Dio vox of yore, they just didn't age as gracefully as Ozzy's wail or say Hetfields growl.
Dio was still a major pioneer of his era though, and will surely get his due.

^I dont hink he means it quite the way you think he does.
Not in the sense of Dio aging and his voice quality along with it, but in the sense that someone who is interested in todays metal could still apreciate it. Metallica and Sabbath are still loved by kids who are raised in the Pantera/Slipknot generation, making those singers, those bands, timeless, ageless. Dio, and his voice is a bit harder to translate over and apreciate for us young-uns, thusly, the "hasnt aged as well" comment.
I personally love Dio, but original Sabbath was soooo much better and fitting, even with Ozzy's more limited vocal range, it just worked better. Can you imagine Dio singing Faeries wear Boots? (actually... lol)
Then again, who popularized the metal fingers? Survey says...horns up to the 3 foot tall man that sings about dragons and swords. Both frontmen deserve this award.
