Iowa based nine-piece Slipknot have narrowly captured the number one spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Originally the band was announced to have claimed the number two spot, losing out to rapper The Game by only thirteen copies, however Roadrunner Records demanded a recount, after which it was discovered that Slipknot was indeed the top seller of the week, outselling The Game by 1,134 albums.

Thank god they beat out the game. I would have rather when iowa came out for that to debut at number 1 insteao number 3. Oh well. Congrats to slipknot on their first#1 album. Oh to post 7 dragonforce sucks! All their f***ing songs sound the same. I had to deal with them at the mayhem tour. I swear their set was like one big long 40 minute song. They only started getting more popular lately cause of guitar hero. f*** guitar hero. Instead of playing a f***ing plastic guitar made in china or thailand, go learn how to play a real guitar. To all the people that are about to bash me defending dragonforce or guitar hero here is my response, f*** Off!!!!!!

I completely agree with post eleven. Dragonforce was cool for one song then the next one came out and it was the same damn song just different words. Guitar hero is fun but i taught myself to play guitar and can in no way play like the guys in dragonforce but i don't want to either. People i know have seen them live and said it sounds like a train wreck. I'm not sorry to say but I have grown up around so of the most brilliant people in music here in Nashville, Tn. My dad was an engineer on music row and i got to sit as a child and watch Johnny Cash (the Godfather of Alternative Music) i have some inside friends who only work with BS country acts tell me that Slipknots new one is the best they"ve heard in years out of "any" metal band. They do listen!!! Nashville is changing quickly... Zakk Wylde and Nikki Sixx have condos here. I've seen Zakk Playin' with country guys twice now. That will make you sit down and go WTF!!! He's that good. This disc from slipknot is absolutely amazing. What some of you need to do is get a really expensive pair of headphones and a top quality sound system... get high and listen to everything going on in this disc. You will hear the brilliance!

HAH, who did they assign to counting?
Between the Buried and Me's Colors IS A GREAT ALBUM. /win for good taste.
To the guy knocking Dragonforce, I by no means argue that point, but have you actually heard All Hope is Gone? You ever seen morse code? Looks like a bunch of dots in a row, kinda repetitive right? Picture those dots as the new slipknot songs. Some are just longer than the others.

New Slipknot album is awesome. It's different from what they've done but original and amazing. Anyway bands who always sound the same became boring and redundant (...and Dragonforce is one of them, it was a long show to Mayhem Fest!). Changes is good when it done well, like Slipknot did. Guitars solos, different drum bits, vocals in a large range...what can you ask more. They did a really f*&%$#g good job and they decerve to get the # 1 place!!!
I personally love "All hope is gone" and for real fans, hope you've get the DVD too because it's just crazy :)

All I have to say is that bands like Buckcherry score high on Billboard charts, some of you may be wondering... "Is he really comparing Slipknot's new album to Buckcherry?" My answer, yes... yes I am. It is one whine away from "Crazy b****"
Being a fan of Iowa and Barcode (Or self titled whichever ya wanna call it, "Barcode" had Purity on it and that song jams) I had such high hopes but not very much faith in this the time before this album's release. And after listening to it a few time I must tell you, I seriously see no difference between Slipknot and Stone Sour anymore. So much so that I am willing to bet that the next Stone Sour album has a song called Slipknot on it. Can't wait till they finally finish out their contract obligations and Shawn can get back with Downthesun and make some good music come from at least one member of this "well sucked dry" band.

Slipknot Edges The Game Atop Billboard 200

Slipknot's "All Hope Is Gone" barely wins out over the Game's "LAX" in the race for No. 1 on The Billboard 200 this week. The Roadrunner set moved 239,516 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, only 1,134 more than the rapper's Geffen album at 238,382.
This marks the first No. 1 for the masked hard rockers, who scored a No. 2 with 2004's "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses" and a No. 3 with 2001's "Iowa" (named for the group's home state). The Game's last two efforts, 2006's "Doctor's Advocate" and 2005's "The Documentary," both debuted at No. 1.

i dont think that because a band is at the top of the billboards means that they're a pop band... i mean SLAYER reached #5 on the billboard with christ illusion, does that make slayer a pop band, i dont think so
after a few listens i do actually like this album quite a bit.. it has its heavier tracks, and its softer ones... a couple songs could be on a stone sour album, but i still see a distinction between the two

Oh Jesus I hate Between the buried and me! Soooooo Monotonous. Just listen to Yngwie if you wanna hear pissloads of sweeped arppegios. They just add crappy break downs behind a singer with absolutely no range to an hour of unemotive guitar widdley widdley. I also think that vol. 3 is Slipknots best. All hope is gone has some good tracks but it just seems too slapped together and dry. Jim Root himself said that he hated the recording process. I honestly don't know why people consider Iowa their best. It's just noise!

I agree with most of you! I am just happy that a rock/metal band like Slipknot is no. 1 - especially over garbage like the GAME. HHH from WWE should sue his a$$ big time. I know this rap idiot didn't have the name "the Game" before wrestler HHH. On that note, most rap is total garbage..maybe a few rappers out there are still worth listening to. I personally listen to El Postre - a German rap metal band! They kick a$$.

Im not too sure about All Hope is gone, iv given it a couple of listens but havnt got through the whole album yet, it just does seem a bit more stone sour this time around. They've sorta stuck to the same ground as Vol. 3 which is dissapointing to me, but as has been said many a time, it would be boring if band churned out the same album over and over again. I dont know, maybe I need to listen to the whole thing, start to finish, high, and f***ing loud!!!! but so far, im not that into it.
Oh and by the way, someone mentioned Purity???? I always remember that song growing up, but I could never find the album its on, I found it on live 9.0 (which aint a great live album) but its not on any of my cds. Any Help????

BTBAM have plenty emotion Drewbacca! They also don't "just sweep". There's actual composition behind their songs. Maybe not as much as other progressive metal bands like Percupine Tree but Colors is has plenty of technical aspects to it whether it be the bass line, the key changes, the meter, the fluidity. Plenty to be heard.

Just because Slipknot is popular doesn't mean they're not metal. They've made songs that are radio-friendly, which is why they're so popular. If other metal bands did that they could up their fanbase. However, if a metal band releases a radio single, usually it's not as metal as other songs.
47. writes:
Yeah, that was kind of a strange band to attack. :) BTBAM is probably one of the most talented bands out there and they do compose their songs well but....they just don't do it for me. I'm more of an Into Eternity, Katatonia, Opeth kinda person. I just like melancholy which is lacking in their music. That's all I suppose. Back to Slipknot though. At least their radio singles are better than the other sh** they play on the rock stations. Cmon? Nickleback/Buckcherry or Slipknot. Hmmmmmmm

to the guys that were confused about purity, it was off their original selft titled album but they had to remove it due to legal reasons.
corey read an article about a girl named purity being buried alive in a box then decided to write a song about it, but it turned out the story was fake. don't know what the legal reasoning was for the song to be removed, but it happened. the only real thing you can do is download it cos you can't get the original album anymore. it also had two other tracks that were removed, "get this" and "frail limb nursery". i hope that clears up your confusion.
