Deftones Bassist Speaks On New Album

Band Photo: Deftones (?)

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has recently posted his thoughts regarding the new songs being recorded for the next Deftones album, tentatively titled "Eros."

He states: "We've been locked into the studio, as you know, and are finishing the drum tracks on a song tentatively called 'Trempest'. It's heavy as fuck with a shitload of groove 'n even though it's been driving me crazy as it runs through my insomniatic brain, I am really excited! I always say this shit, but I truly believe this album to be well worth the wait and appreciate all your support and kind loyalty. The idea of finishing the album and getting out to play in front of y'all is a nice light at the end of my tunnel. We intend to tour extensively so don't fret."

Well, personally, I'd really dig another album resembling the emotions of White Pony or the energy of Minerva (not that Adrenaline or Around the Fur don't count as progression is everything).

To me, everything they've released other than Saturday Night Wrist is 100% good sh**, and the B-Sides Rarities also sucked a$$ (probably due to Chino being off his tits)...

Will definitely be picking this new one up though...

Steph has been playing on 8 strings like Meshuggah, so I am assuming that it really does sound heavy as the brown note.

Personally, I liked White Pony and Minerva for how atmospheric it was.

I've not been a fan of Chino since he whimped out of performing in Minneapolis at the Sanitarium tour because he pulled his groin.

If I was stranded on a desert island and I could only bring 3 CDs with me to listen to for the rest of my life, all three would be White Pony.

I don't understand why most people rip on Saturday night wrist? I would have to say my favorite Deftones albums would be Around the Fur, White Pony, and SNW.

I love DEftones but I too didn't really get into SNW. I have high hopes for this album and if it's true he's using 8 strings it's going to be awesome.

No, wait, it'd be 3 Otep CDs. Then I can try to drown myself in the hot sea.

Really, I think White Pony is as close to Dark Side of the Moon as our generation's gonna get. It's a quite remarkable record IMO, and I have yet to hear another CD by ANY band that sounds anything like it.

White pony is a masterpiece, the type of album you listen to with your eyes closed just to make sure you get all of it...

Yeah crawford, I agree, it's truly a magnetic album, with Minerva it took me 4 or 5 times to really start enjoying it. At first I thought it was terrible but then after a few listening it hit me: what an amazing album.

Good music but as far as their live show... horrible. Being drunk and bellowing into a mic doesn't make for a good show, take your music a little more serious man, seriously. Party after your set like every other band who gives a sh**.

Scarcely a metal bone in this band--however I'm a fan of the first three disks (especially "Around the Fur"). Theres a few tracks on the 2 more recent albums that are decent but those were mild letdowns for me.
