Exodus Clash With Mokena Venue Security

Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers EXODUS clashed with the in-house security during their headlining performance on February 16, 2008 at The Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois after a fan was allegedly thrown out of the venue "for no good reason."
A Last.fm user by the name of "Fosster3567" describes the incident in the following way: "The last band of the night was well worth the wait. EXODUS caused a huge stir in the Pearl Room. All was fine until about three songs into their set when a fan jumped up on stage and stage-dived. This was fine with the band, they even headbanged next to him. But security felt otherwise and kicked the kid out. EXODUS stopped playing 'Children of a Worthless God' immediately. They shouted at security to let the kid back in and even told the security guard who kicked the kid out to get the fuck out. When they didn't, EXODUS' singer [Rob Dukes] shouted, 'Hey, I'm stage-diving. Kick me the fuck out, big boy.' He jumped into the crowd. When he got back on stage, he commanded the audience all stage-dive. This is when the place turned into total chaos. Audience members were running on stage by the dozen and we were all enjoying the fuck out of ourselves. Then, Pearl Room's management shut off their mics and amps. The singer was arguing with the manager for a few minutes. Luckily, EXODUS was allowed to continue their set, although no one else could stage dive. They were awesome live and played all the fan favorites."
Watch video footage of the incident below.
EXODUS is in the middle of a North American tour in support of its latest album, "The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A", that will culminate in a hometown show in San Francisco on February 24 at Slim's.

ah man, I was suposed to go see em there at the Pearl Room to see Exodus and Warbringer but at the last moment didn't go, man I hate myself now.
I'ts great to see Exodus stick up for the guy, thats a class act, and for the record I staged dived when Vital Remains came up last time and I was never asked to stop by anyone so....WTF is with this. Oh and ZT, so true man.

I've been to this venue plenty of times and I really cant stand their security. These fckers think that they are actually police officers and tried to get people to do what they tell them. It was pretty funny last time because Bobaflex was getting heckled and later in the night during Ill Nino's set, the security kicked him out for "fighting" as he was leaving he was being restrained and kept talking sh** to Bobaflex. Shaun the lead singer told them to let him go but they wouldnt so the punk just kept acting like a tough guy. I really wish security would just lighten up and let people like us get some stress out.

I think the best part is that the band could have very easily just ignored what was going on and said to them selfs while playing on stage "ah f*** it, we got his money anyways!" Instead they have a true sence of pride and appreciation for their fans. Trust a band like Kiss or Metallica to do that and you might as well set your self up for a major dissapointment!

I was at the (great) show. Most of the security guards acted all right, but one of them was a major a**hole from the start---he threw around two guys who were smoking during Beneath The Hollow's set (there's a nightclub smoking ban in Illinois) and then got into a brawl with a couple of guys who had been in the pit. Then they kicked out a kid for stagediving during Warbringer.
It's a catch 22--I've seen plenty of pits and stage diving, and you would be stupid to go into it thinking you won't get a scrape. I've seen broken bones and busted teeth, even a guy who punctured his skull after he stage dived. But there is so much ridiculous litigation, what happens when someone stage dives and injures someone else? The club probably would get sued as well as the stage diver.

That's what Metal should be about right there! It's great to see Exodus stick up for their fans like that, I'm just p***ed I missed that show. I've had I my share of run ins with fu**tard security guys before, usually defending the kids. You ever notice most of the time these guys never mess with adults, it's the kids. Just like the punks they are they wanna pick a fight they know they can win. Sometimes you need guys like bikers to be security. They won't bother with the little sh**, they'll just break up the fights and try to keep the peace. I've seen this work out nicely before. On the other hand the Hells Angels provided security once too--that didn't turn out so nice! I'd still trust them more though, they're not a bunch of pu**ies who got beat up too much in school and now want to take that anger out on the kids who look like their past bullies!

that's badass, good to see a band stick up for it's fans when all they want to do is have fun.
