Korn Guitarist Munky Claims He Has Special Announcement

KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer has issued the following update:
"2007 was great for me and Emotional Syphon Recordings [Munky's record label]. We released two kick-ass albums from very different bands, DROID and MONSTER IN THE MACHINE.
"Both albums are special for me.
"I started ESR because I felt like there was a void in the music industry. I aimed to fill that by promoting more great music. I wanted to give these artists a channel to be heard. These records are completely untouched by industry politics and trends. They come from the respective musicians' hearts. They also are the beginning of ESR! I'd been wanting to start a label for a very long time, and now it's up and running! We're on the right track...
"Last year was also fantastic for KORN. We released a great new album and toured the whole world with SLIPKNOT drum legend Joey Jordison behind the kit. I had a great time playing all of those shows and meeting fans at the ESR booth. I'm looking forward to going back out and playing some more killer shows for all of you.
"Last year definitely had some cool highlights, however, 2008 is already shaping up to be even better. KORN is about to embark on a huge tour of Europe and the UK. We've got Ray Luzier of ARMY OF ANYONE filling in on the drums, and we have a lot of surprises planned. We'll be busting out some classic tracks as well as newer stuff from the 'Untitled' record. So if you're in Europe or the UK, don't miss these shows! It's going to be a very memorable run for all of us.
"I'm also very stoked with ESR's progress. We're building the label even more, and both DROID and MONSTER IN THE MACHINE will be on tour all year.
"For those of you that caught DROID on Family Values 2007 or MONSTER IN THE MACHINE out with TEAM SLEEP, you know how killer these bands are live! Do not miss them on tour this year. Also be sure to say 'hi' to the guys after the shows or at their merch booths. ESR is a family, and we consider the fans a big part of that family. We want to meet and talk to all of you! This is going to be a big year for the label and both of these kick-ass bands!
"Before I hit the road, I wanted to let everyone in on a little secret. I have a big surprise announcement coming very, very soon. It's something I'm extremely passionate about, and I have a feeling everyone is going to love it. Be sure to keep checking this page, because this announcement is going to be big…"

Yeah that's a safe bet I'd say. If he really wants to make a big announcement it will be "Get this! Korn are actually gonna go back to making half decent albums!" I don't particularly have anything against Korn but the last two albums have been very disapointing.

i dunno why but i'll always like korn, i've enjoyed all of their albums & dont think i'll ever stop. all in all great musicians.
A band like shadows fall gets people b****in at them cause they never change, korn always changes & people get so angry. Ever since korn wrote take a look in the mirror i'll always like em. That was the album i was hopin they'd make since the original

Korns debut was impressive. Nothing like it at the time. Life is Peachy was decent but thats where the quality started to slide. Everything after that was spotty leaning toward sh**e or much worse(last two albums)....
Now Playing: Behemoth - "Be Without Fear"

Godlike is very funny! I remember wien I first got here not knowing ie was a jokester and got mad at him in the AC/DC thread. I laugh my arse off looking back om it. On topic, if Munky does go solo do hope its better than Korn. Maybe interesting to see him do some death metal stuff.
21. writes:
I doubt Munky will go death metal. A crossover hardcore thing at the biggest stretch I think.
Yeah I remember lol. I can understand why you got offended but at least you just realized he was just joking and everything and everybody's friends now lol. Good to see that you come back to this site so often. It's great to have what i call the "regs" on here.

Well you guys are stuck with me. MuHahaha! I am glad to be here. I have been on other boards, but compared to this site they are kinda lacking. This site makes me feel at home because its not just foucused on one metal subgenre or band. I think the AC/DC thread turned out to be the funniest thread of all. I will check out the Munky solo stuff as more of a morbid coureosity, but am not holding my breath for anything grand. Also would it be o.k to post myspace links? Just to be able to put faces to names and such? If not thats fine.

Korn helped get me into the metal i listen to today, much like slipknot does for others, so I am still appreciative.
Their last album had such simplistic riffs and song structure that I just got depressed listening to it. the only pleasant surprise was the song Kiliing. simple song, good crunch, started to get boring and repetitive, then out of f***in nowhere, BAM!!!! death Metal. or at least an imitation of it anyway. The look on MY face must have been priceless the first time I heard it, because i warn my friends ahead of time, and then play it for them, and it's still hilarious to watch their reactions. Anyone who hasnt heard it yet should, simply as a reference. Delete the song afterwards though, it gets boring fast.
i couldnt giva a damn about Munkys "surprise". The man acts as though it actually will be one when he reveals his new band. He would surprise me if his surprise were actually that he had done something like... built a time-travelling robot sidekick to help him fix Korn and make them good again. Since time-travel and improvement of korn's longgone talent are both impossible, I will just have to wait for the side-project.

korn kicks a$$ and i dont care what anyone else says. so uhh f*** off
Lol you must not think they kick too much ass... since you decided to make your name, "korn is good." see somewhere in your subconscious you know just as well as we do they suck like a vacuum.

meh i still like korn... the problem with them is all the experimenting and the excessive year after year of being in the studio... korn needs to just take a big break in the recording process and come back fresh...
post 26. yea i was surprised to hear that too at the end of killing... korn should try out a bit of death metal... besides that little part at the end of killing the only other somewhat deathmetal korn song ive heard was jingle balls

Kron - that is funny! It is Korn. None of my friends have been impressed with Droid, or myself, for that matter. They are trying to be too much like Meshuggah. I am happy for a new band..but Droid is nothing special. I couldn't make out a damn thing the guy was saying because of the guitar distortion....I could barely hear the drums....so I was not that impressed with Droid. Droid is loud, big deal...lol
