The West Australian reports that the lead singer of the Geelong, Victoria, Australia-based heavy metal band THE RED SHORE has died in a crash on a New South Wales highway, according to the group's booking agent.
An employee for Pan Studios in Geelong said the company had received news that the singer, believed to be about 23, had died in the crash.
The group's driver and merchandiser had also been killed, she said.
The men died after their minivan veered off the Pacific Highway north of Coffs Harbour and hit a tree.
One man died at the scene and seven others were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital.
One of the injured men, a 30-year-old who had been trapped in the van wreckage for an hour, died in hospital from serious head injuries.
THE RED SHORE were touring with U.S. death metal outfit ALL SHALL PERISH on the "Christmas Carnage" tour, when the crash occurred.
Both bands played at Brisbane's Club Phoenix on Tuesday night and were scheduled to play at Hermann's Bar at Sydney University on Wednesday night.
The van carrying eight men, most aged in their 20s, plunged down an embankment before rolling into a tree at about 7am (AEDT).
NSW police later said the two men killed were aged 22 and 27, and said relatives had asked that their names not be released.
Jarrod, a barman at The National Hotel in Geelong, where the band has played, described the lead singer as quiet and "chilled out".
"He was a nice, quiet guy, contrary to the band's music," Jarrod said.
Sally Laver, the owner of Pan Studios, said THE RED SHORE's musical career had just started to take off.
The band drew crowds of up to 200 people in their home town of Geelong, she said.
"They're one of our bigger bands," she said.
Ms Laver said the singer was "wonderful."
"He was a very sensitive young man."
"He was very passionate about everything he did."

This hurts every metal fan in Oz, the Red Shore were a very promising band- if they can find another lead vocalist with this guys' abilities, they'll have done well. Hope this doesn't end the band. Respectful consolences to the family and friends. The roads around Coffs are hell in some spots... especially when you're driving from Brisbane to Sydney right after a gig in order to make it in time for your next gig...

I wouldn't say people are treating these guys like they are amazing now that they are dead. I have never heard of these guys and I am still some what upset because yet again another member i the metal community died. With the handfull of deaths recently this is just kicking us while we are down even though some of us are not familiar with this band.

for f***s sake crap music from crap musos? what a load of sh**. i will come out and say im not what you will call a fan but they were talented musicians. fred nile. a couple of guys died and two more have been extremely injured. alot of people have heard of the band before this. hell they play before massive crowds in all cities in australia and for an up and coming band thats what id call a well known band. i am from brisbane and know alot of bands and people who had a great friendship with this band not to mention countless fans. i know myself brisbane and every fan from anywhere would appreciate you keep your mouth shut and show some respect for damo andy and the rest of the boys in the crash. not only did a band lose a vocalist and a merch guy but people lost friends brothers sons and also a musician people admire. this really shows how heartless and pathetic people can be reguarding music they dont like or have never heard.
rest in peace damo and andy and i pray that what i have heard about other members injuries arent as bad as said.

R.I.P, that really sucks! Come on people a little respect, if your into metal, respect those who have made the effort to entertain the metal community, they tried, even if you don't like them, just say your condolences and thats all. Everyone has different tastes, so just accept that. R.I.P again, Ive never heard them, but that really sucks! I pay my respect to anyone who found love in making the music that keeps me happy, and makes me life that much easier!

I wish a speedy recovery to Jase, Jamie, Jake, Roman and Bailey, my thoughts are with you all.
May the memories live on.

What the f***! Why are so many people in rock n roll dying now. We just lost Kevin DuBrow about a month ago, whats-his-face from the fag band Hawthorne Heights died (who cares anyway, except emo kids), and now this. Now I've never heard of him or his band, but there's no coming back from death. R.I.P. and rock on with Dime, Cliff B, Bon, Bonzo, Randy Rhoads, Hendrix, and the other gods. In the words of Dimebag, GETCHA PULL!

Damo's and Andy's deaths are a terrible blow for not only the Geelong and local scene, but for the entire Aus metal community, as well as their many international fans. The band were at such a crucial stage, having progressed so much over the year, about to release their debut album, and with hopes for international tours, and to say they will continue with The Red Shore despite their losses they have my greatest respect.
If you're from around the area make sure you come out to one of the many benefit gigs that are being organised, profits from these shows will go towards helping the boys replace the equipment damaged in the crash so that they may re-establish themselves as a band and, hopefully, release the album they'd been preparing.
