Phil Anselmo Forces Beer-Throwing Fan On His Knees
After reportedly getting "nailed" twice with beers thrown from the crowd, DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo stopped the band's show Thursday night (November 15) in Corpus Christi, Texas to tell the crowd to send him the next "coward" that decided to throw something at him. The audience then ponied up one of the kids that allegedly had thrown one. Watch what happens next in the clip below.
DOWN's video for the song "On March The Saints" made its "Headbanger's Ball" debut last night (Saturday, November 17) on MTV2. This episode also featured a piece with Phil Anselmo in which he compared the world of boxing to playing music.
DOWN's new album, "Over the Under", was released on September 25 through ILG/Warner Music Group (one day earlier internationally via Roadrunner Records). The LP was issued in Europe as a limited-edition digipack CD featuring the bonus track "Invest in Fear".

Phil blew this out of proportion but...
If the kid paid to get in there, and then paid for the beer (making him 21+) then went to the trouble to throw it at Phil then he had this coming to him.
It's hard to imagine the mind it takes to shell out that money and spend all that precious time to go see a band you don't like so you can throw beer at the singer.
In his younger days Phil would have punched this kid half to death. He got off lightly.

I can't really choose a side here.Being a veteran of security work at many and I DO MEAN MANY SHOW'S!!!! That kind of sh** cannot & should not be tolerated.I'm surprised security did'nt catch him first. As much as I personally don't really like Phil.I gotta respect the fact that people spent good money to see him.Just because you don't like him does not make it ok for you to ruine someone else's good time. It's a good thing Phil is not as big an a$$hole as Axl Rose.(yes Phil's a monumental a$$hole but atleast he's not a premadonna)Axl would have gone into the audience got into a fight and then ended the show before they were even half way through the set. This idiot deserved worse than what he got......
Rest in peace DIME.

F_U_C_K PHIL, RENVENTING THE STEEL TOUR 2000 when phil was the throat for PANTERA i was hit in between the eyes by a plastic cup of whisky that he threw.... Now im not sure if it was for me to catch but the sh** burnt out my eyes for a good 15 seconds.....the point is the guys got a DEATH WISH if he thinks he's so hard and sh**...... he's lookin to go out the same way DIME happend to.....He's on his wayout of this world....so some crazed fan is gonna SLAYER him...

That junky did absolutely nothing. Rex had to push him away due to the fact that Phil was waiting so long for the poor fan to "bow before him"
That sorry Italian scumbag is playing second stages for the rest of his 40+ year old life. Vinnie is laughing at this, I hope you all realize.
25. writes:
"vinnie is laughing at this"
-thats kind of what i thought at first, then i thought vinnie was probably thinking "what a douchebag retard"
as if being forced to bow down before phil wasnt embarrasing enough, he got tackled by security while the whole crowd was cursing him out. hahahah

27. writes:
I don't exactly think Vinnie should be laughing at Phil. Phil is an a$$hole, but at least his band does not blow like Hell Yeah does. But nothing that really exciting happened, I hoped Phil would punch him out. You shouldn't be throwing stuff at people on stage, your just ruining the show for people who want to be their.

28. writes:
im completely surprised phil didnt just lay this punk out. i mean, throwing a beer!!??..i call that alcohol abuse!!!!!. what a punk a$$ biitch to throw beers at the band.!! but phil handled it nicely i think, could of been a bit more violent as far as i am concerned, throwing beers at a band calls for an a$$ kicking!!!!!

Whats the big deal here? We all know there's all kinds of stuff in the air at gigs. Big deal. As long as you dont get the "Donington" speciality, a bag of sh** - literally - at you, then so what. And Phil is an as$hole. He's the reason why we lost Pantera. Exactly how many bands has he had since then? And none of them have worked out. Wonder why

31. writes:
Maybe if anything Phil did was worth paying the ridiculous ticket prices, he wouldn't have gotten beer thrown at him. Anyone ever seen Phil live, in ANY incarnation? I saw Pantera in '98 and Down in '02 and he sounded like he had been drunk since 8 am both times. He let his talent be obscured by his emotion. If Phil ever made me get onstage so he could embarass me in front of an entire audience, he had better expect to get one real good punch in his face. I don't care if he beats my a$$ afterwards, but I certainly would let someone make a moron out of me when I've bought and paid for nearly every album he's on. Nope. This motherf***er would have to fight me right there. Phil is sh** now. He's a f***ing axl rose has been and he needs to od on heroin and die quietly somewhere. He deserves to be beaten severely.

Self proclaimed "King of Metal". even if so, you don't come out and say that crap. #1. Then you don't call out a fan on stage #2, and finally if you can't take beer tossing at a show -Quit!! This is metal. You don't hear any complaints about thongs being tossed up there. I'd pay 50 bucks for half a beer to toss at that loser after seeing this. I've lost all respect. Period.

To Crawford - I didn't pay much to be at the concert. Yes I was there - it was great. Under $30.00 and it was one of the most intense, crazy concerts I have ever been to. The Live version of [Bury Me in Smoke] was brutal - man - that song crushes LIVE.
This is history man and proves that Corpus Christi is player in the metal field.

36. writes:
You had to be at the show to really know what happened.
As for Crawford again - I have to disagree. I saw Phil when he was with Pantera, and Super Joint Ritual..his voice did sound horrible - BACK THEN - This is a new Phil A. who sounded incredible and sober. His words were heart-felt and sincere + had energy. This concert was very impressive. I would have regretted not attending the show.

38. writes:
f***in throw a beer at me and ill drink the motherf***er!!!
Pantera use to throw beers into the crowd all the time man...
What the hell is wrong with Anselmo???
Makin a fan drop to his knees to suck his c***......what a pathetic excuse to be nominated one of the best metal singers.....go and gargle on my infected semen..

39. writes:
This is a NEW Phil? That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. The old Phil had his purpose, but that doesn't make him a good entertainer, and it DEFINETLY doesn't make him a great frontman. Did you see the Pantera BHM? Phil was tlaking like a f***ing dumbass the whole time. Like they had to duct tape him to his chair. All woozy like he was on pills and whiskey. If Phil is clean and sober now, I'm the f***ing pope, and I can tell you I am definetly not teh pope. Talking about "No one f***s with the f***in' kid." What a goddamn retard. He was trashed. He deserves to languish into obscurity. I don't care. He may have been in Pantera, but he was the second in command, at the very most.
I agree. Phil used to throw beer to fans. It's too bad that he doesn't like having the favor returned. I'm sure he deserved to get beer tossed at his face. Too bad a glass bottle didn't explode on contact with his face, or maybe some crazy guy runs onstage and shoots him.
Dime dies tragically, and this c***sucker gets to tell his fan to suck his d***. What a waste of life. What an ass-backwards situation. Phil should be dead.

40. writes:
Ok...Pantera always the best, obviously phil takes all this to the head... from what I saw LAWSUIT. I dont care if he is a legend he should have more respect for the fans not himself. You put your hands on fans in the crowd thats wrong point blank even if he did throw somthing thats part of the game f***er... I cant tell you how many times Ive been nailed w/ debris live with it Phil and swallow your stupid f***ing ego. Phil get a clue ....Dimebag RIP

Thank you for your input - Crawford. I still love Down with Phil or without Phil. Remember Down has Pepper Keenan, and Kirk Windstein. The statement I made was my impression of the show. I read that Phil still smokes weed, however, he drinks green tea, and stuff like that. As for the fan, he was an A(( and should have been humilated by Phi. If the artist continues to tolerate that nonsense...it will keep happening. Maybe he handled the situation wrong, it is a matter of opinion. Whether you like him or not - Phil is charismatic, and fun to watch. I saw beer and other mess thrown at Randy from Lamb of God and he just keep telling the crowd to stop throwing garbage at him because it was ruining the show. I don't like to have dumba-es ruin my metal show, sorry, that is just me.

I saw Andrew WK at Ozzfest 2002 and everyone was throwing Slim Jims at him. It was like someone did a processed beef rain dance. He kept playing and dancing. When a girl in the front row flipped him off, he pushed her hands down and gave her a big thumbs up right in her face. THAT'S a good way to handle it. I'm sure Phil was performing was quite sub-par and he probably deserved to have sh** thrown at him. He did this because he's not used to being disrespected by people he's playing for. Now that he's not part of a band that's changing music, especially after what he's said, he's going to get dissed in public. And I think he deserves it. He turned a lot of fans of Pantera away due to his drug use and being drunk constantly, and not only did it cost Pantera what would have been a really good album, rather than an average album, but it also cost Phil a lot of fans. I'm one of them. I'd have thrown sh** at him. He needs to retire.

yeeeah....Was listening to "Heresy" earlier...Wow.
I'd have loved to see Pantera play that song in rare form...Phil was never the best frontman of all time, though I'd rank him in the top ten in metal.
With frontmen you have to expect this "World Revolves Around Me" attitude. In order to give their all they -have- to feel like they own the world.....
This does not change the fact that I still hate Fred Durst and David Lee Roth, two of the most full of themselves rock frontmen ever.

Whatever you may think of Phil (and I think he's a total ass) he is still a bad a$$ singer/screamer. He's got some good range and the times he is sober he is actually a good frontman. I've had the pleasure of seeing him (at least mostly) sober with Pantera and SJR and they played good shows. But I also have some bootlegs where he is so out of it that Dime has to sing for him. And I'm not a fan of Down, but at least they are better than that abomination called Hell Yeah. Ugh!

Phil has said and done some terrible sh** in the past. The sad thing is that any of us (myself included) should expect -Phil- to act reasonable, on full adrenaline, on stage, with a capacity crowd backing him.
Of course Phil is going to do what will hype the crowd up. Short of throwing the kid through a window and into the street, I think Phil did what most metal frontmen would do....well sort of.
To the chase -- I would expect a diplomatic solution from some frontment, but not Phil.

cursing every single f***ing word in every f***ing sentance doesnt make you metal either, dumb b****. You just make yourself look like a stupid ass. Noones going to value the opinion of a fool that flames somone with boatloads of obsenities over the internet. yeah you told me...
at least phil wasnt like disturbed's frontman and just took action. dave would've just thrown a hissy fit and called whoever was it a douche. if it was axl rose the show would've ended right there. He handled it better then others.

Him ignoring Dime and Vinnie is in the past so move the f*** on, if Dime wouldnt of gotten killed im sure they all would of reconciled somewhere down the line. A tone of bands have massive fights, look at Van Halen. And Down is such a sick band give me a f***ing break that they need stay down, f*** off! Down owns most metal bands out today period. And off topic, but i dont like that bigot Branded kid but his comebacks have been 100 times better then yours Russ, so shut the f*** up! And if the dude wants to shoot up thats his f***ing buisness, dont buy Pantera cd's then kid. Phils done more doped up the you could ever imagine to do chump(michealc).
