Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have commented on the passing of DECAPITATED drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka, who died in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision. He was 23 years old.
"Let it be known that we are shocked and saddened to hear about Vitek's passing," DIMMU BORGIR said in a statement. "Our condolences to his family and the other DECAPITATED members. We will be playing for him tonight [at Teatria in Oulu, Finland]. We wish Adrian 'Covan' Kowanek a quick recovery!"
Vitek and DECAPITATED singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) were hurt in an accident earlier in the week involving DECAPITATED's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. Both musicians reportedly sustained serious head injuries in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed).
According to the Polish Internet portal Onet.pl, Vitek underwent trepanation, a form of surgery in which a hole is drilled or scraped into the skull, and was due to be transported to a hospital in Krakow, Poland for further treatment.
Covan's family released a statement yesterday (Thursday, November 1) that the vocalist's condition had improved. At the time, the vocalist was still said to be at a hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where he and Vitek were taken following the accident.

The problem is that other bands will do this. I'm really really not trying to piss all over Decapitated or the legacy they'll leave but what'll now happen is loads of bands will jump on the bandwagon and cover Decapitated songs and so on and so forth. Just like when Dimebag was killed. It's a f***ing tragedy.

I clearly said I wasn't trying to take anything away from Decapitated, Vitek or the legacy the band will leave but my point is there will be some bands now who have NOTHING whatsoever to do with Decapitated their genre or anything like that and will go around using his name to make themselves look more "metal". I don't mind bands like Dimmu Borgir and that doing things like this, but mark my words, LOADS of scene bands will instantly jump on the bandwagon and say how much of a Decapitated fan they are.
Anyway, I really don't wanna start or fuel an arguement. Let's just hope that Covan gets better soon. Good to hear that Crionics are on the mend aswell.

I agree with Diamond Oz, Decapitated are an amazing band and i got into them around 2002 and they blew me away. I was upset when Martin left the band as he is an amazing bassist. But now Vitek is dead and Covan is still hospitalised and that sucks. I just hope that Vogg is coping with all this trauma...
As to bands covering Decapitated songs, I would hate for that to happen. They have a unique sound which is hard to copy and shouldn't be copied at all.

That is a great gesture by Dimmu Borgir. I hope other bands do this as well
