According to fan reports, TYPE O NEGATIVE's appearance at the U.K.'s Birmingham Academy on Wednesday, June 20 was delayed by over an hour and concluded after a mere 40 minutes, followed by intense booing by a disappointed, capacity crowd.
The management representative's official statement reads as follows:
"[Wednesday] night Peter [Steele, bass/vocals] got off of the bus not able to breathe properly due to the mold in the back lounge. He went straight to hotel. When the runner arrived to pick him up, I was told that he had to get someone to go up to room with him and that Peter was semi-conscious. He was having severe breathing problems. He managed to get to the venue — and was on time — but upon his arrival and seeing his condition, I immediately asked for the paramedics to attend to him. The paramedic administered oxygen and were concerned enough that there was discussion of bringing a doctor onsite. They also called for two other paramedics to consult, which resulted in more delay of stage time.
"Towards the end of set, Peter took his normal break but was still feeling very bad and the break went longer than usual. The bottle thrown at the end is a regular thing that Peter does, it was tossed gently to a fan in the crowd and not done or meant with any malintent or malice towards the audience."
There has been no statement by any members of the band at this time.
