Marilyn Manson Disses My Chemical Romance for Stealing His Act

Band Photo: Marilyn Manson (?)
Launch Radio Networks reports: MARILYN MANSON has lashed out at MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, saying that a song called "Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form of Flattery", from his new "Eat Me, Drink Me" album, is directed at the band, whom he accused of ripping off his act. Manson told the London Paper, "I'm embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I've done. If they want to identify with me then here's a razor blade. Call me when you're done and we'll talk."
Here are some sample lyrics from "Mutilation...": "Hey, there's no rules today / You steal instead of borrow / You take all the shapes that I make / And you think that you thought / All the thoughts that I thought you / Don't you?"
MANSON and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE will both perform this weekend at England's Download Festival, although they'll appear on separate days.
MANSON's new record arrived in stores on Tuesday, June 5.

Well... I'm not keen on Manson, but f*** MCR. They've turned hype-heaven England into a sh**-pit of stupidly dressed scene kids.
And about the Download festival, will MM play "Mutilation..." live, or better yet, beat 666 shades of sh** out of MCR when they're "playing" live? That'll give their emo fans something to cry about! (He can beat up Bullet for my Valentine while he's at it as well.)

15. writes:
Alright I love MM and MCR as well, now following MCR they have NOTHING to do with Manson! They dress differently, sound differently. Manson is just looking for even more attention for his new album by bashing one of the hottest punk bands out there today! And besides, MCR has been doing phenominal with there music, unlike Manson who after 4 years of drinking and depression he finally decided to make a new album, where as Gerard knew he had to get his sh** together when he was drinking! And it didn't take him no 4 god damn years!
And as one final note, The Black Parade takes influence from Queen, Eat Me, Drink Me takes influence from Queen, so not only is MCR "copying" a completly different band, but if I didn't know better Manson is copying MCR with the whole Queen inspiration idea!

17. writes:
ok unknown, for a start MCR are NOT punk. seriously. in any shape or form.
secondly i think he is referring to them ripping off his general style more than any music specifically. though some of his stuff is obviously an influence.
thirdly MM already has a shedload of awesome albums out so if he wants to take a few years between them to do whatever he wants then why not? he doesn't have to cater to some emo demographic with tiny attention spans as MCR do.
And fourthly i think that Eat Me, Drink Me takes its influences from a few more places that just queen! you don't know a lot about MMs music huh?

19. writes:
MM should be embarrassed if he wrote a whole song just about gerard's outfit! doesn't he have something better to say rather than b**** about who got to the dressing up box and the MAC counter first, like a beauty pageant contestant?!
by the way, mcr is punk. and not goth, even though they wear black. MCR IS NOT F***ING EMO!!!!!!!!!

20. writes:
Well, I'm not familiar with My Chemical Romance at all, nor am I much of a Marilyn Manson fan (although Mechanical Animals is a good album, and some stuff on Antichrist Superstar wasn't bad either). Either way, Manson has been around a LOT longer than MCR so calling this a publicity stunt is just silly. If anything, it will get MCR more publicity. I mean, come on now... Manson doesn't need the publicity, nor does he need to diss MCR to sell more albums.

26. writes:
My Chemical Romance is a straight up up modern emo/pop-punk band. The mainstream straight up refers to this as "Alternative Rock". That works just as well. They do not have enough core influence to be labeled mallcore or one of the other hundreds of stupid genre names there are today for said music. It doesn't matter who they were influenced by - it does NOT make them emulate that genre. I don't care if you kids want to listen to such garbage but at least get it right when you bring a real band like Queen into the argument.
Manson is also what the mainstream would label as "Alternative Rock", but he technically plays industrial/goth rock. Manson is a media whore - you don't need to be a fan of his to see him act a fool all over the media - he's a f***ing idiot and if I'm not mistaken, he's dating 19 year old Evan Rachel Wood right now. The only thing both bands have in common is that they are obsessed over by tons of teenage girls, wear makeup and play horrible f***ing music. The fact that kids go the limits to not only be fans of such acts, but obsess and get fanatical over them makes me want to puke.

28. writes:
Do you really think Manson cares? Honestly? He's just doing because he loves the attention like that. He's too much of an intellect to really give a damn about something like that.
And to post 15:
Manson wasn't sulking in depression, ass. He was lecturing at Colleges. Yeah, someone who lectures at colleges is gonna be really upset that some pop-punk band is pretending to be goth.

29. writes:
Everyone likes their own music styles. No one will agree. It's even relevant in the artist world, as this childish name calling behavior shows. Get over it. No one will agree with you if you say "OHH MCR RULES" or even "OHH MM OWNS". To each is own, and you shouldn't ever have a problem with that.

WTF were MCR doing on the main stage while Korn had to perform in the dimeball area??? No one could see the band, the screens were useless as they were too small and low down. Korn had 3/4 of the festival fans watching, while people watching MCR on the main stage could have danced a highland fling without touching anyone else. The dimeball stage area was jam packed, too hot, and the sound imbalanced by the sheer volume of bodies absorbing it...Whose great idea was it to put the emo crap band on the main stage??

38. writes:
MCR's only fans are lame poser high school kids, and most current day hardcore Manson fans are all wastes of a human life. And I don't see how he is blaming them for stealing his act when Manson's live show is one of the best I have ever seen and MCR's is just... lamegay and pathetic. So this has to be a publicity stunt that they are both in on...

45. writes:
actually, they do. they managed to respond to MM's accusation quite well actually.....
who cares though? MM makes medicore psuedo industrial rock, and MCR produces slightly average pop punk/rock. plus none of them sound at all like each other.
np: streetlight manifesto- failing, flailing

46. writes:
Yeah, I think Manson's at a point in his career where he's done so much flip-floppin' around, that it's pretty absurd for him to claim that a band like MCR can be "stealing" from him. I think MCR steals more from Queen and Bowie than Manson. And, yeah, Manson is STILL stealing his act from Alice Cooper, so it's a pretty lame and pointless argument, as far as I'm concerned. Manson's had his fifteen minutes of drug-addled fame, and, to put it fairly, I'm fxcking sick of him. Always on MTV with his hot new girlfriends, talking about how he still loves his narcotics. What a piece of shxt. At least Gerard Way and co. can perform a legitimate setlist without being completely rolled on painkillers and coke. Manson's on his way out and the easiest way a has been can remain relevant is to shxt on whatever's new. Yeah I can do it too. "Damn kids these days have no sense of decency! Blah blah blah." The more Manson complains, the more I realize that he's no longer the voice of my generation like he used to be.
He's just being a bxtch because he knows MCR could outsell any of his albums with their eyes closed!
Cheers to MCR.

I love my chemical romance. In my honest opinion i am not a fan at all of marilyn manson. I think needs to grow up I mean why diss mcr when you are already a rock star who is very famous. He should be happy at the fact the they want to copy his style because that means he leaving not an impact on his fans but on newcoming bands. Although I dont believe that mcr are copy cats and are stealing his look and style.

50. writes:
MCR is not ripping off manson - infact they are 'influenced' by Queen. Manson's days are over i totally agree with texasjingojango. Its a shameless way to promote his new album cause he knows its got nothing on the black parade. I'm a fan of manson's & am likewise a fan of MCR & i am niether 'scene' or a 'goth'. Since when does image have to be associated with music you listen to in the 21st century? Fashion is its own department, which i bet many of you lack - whether your emo or goth or a metal fan.
peace&love
rock on.

51. writes:
Yeah, Manson hasn't "rocked" since Mechanical Animals came out, which, in itself, was rather tame. Golden Age and Holywood were just rehashed versions of Antichrist Superstar. He's been stealing from himself. He's mad that parents aren't scared of him anymore and everyone's getting sick of the same old same old. It doesn't matter that you've made twenty albums that all sound the same (Slayer, AC/DC), what people want nowadays is something new. Sure, MCR and Manson may be totally different acts, but they're both makeup wearing mulefaced fags. I just tend to appreciate MCR's brutal honesty over Manson's hot topic art-fag droning technoc0ckrock. There isn't a single Manson song that makes me feel as moved as some of MCR's songs. And it's because I've been there. I've never fxckin' married a movie star, or wore spooky contacts, but I have been in love, and I have been heartbroken, and I have felt the undying urge to overcome and persevere. I've never understood why people felt the need to dress up like freaks and then whine about why people think they're different. Just looks like someone trying to gain hype by slamming others. Pathetic on Manson's part, but you already knew that.

"you got to admit, MCR's latest stuff sounds alot like classic rock stuff."
What are you smoking/sniffing and where can i get some? You have no idea what the f*** classic rock is. LED ZEPPELIN IS CLASSIC ROCK. You're just a f***ing emo that thinks underoath is metal so you thought you'd comment on this website. Have you ever even been to a metal concert? [atreyu does not count fa**ot]

59. writes:
f*** yea. I agree with i_KILL_u in saying that antihippy is f***ing fag. Screamo emo is no kind of metal and no kind of rock for that matter so little fans like you should not come on a metal site and think that you know WHAT THE f*** YOU ARE SAYING!!!!!!!!!! f***ing gay a$$ MCR needs to go suck a d*** (many corporate rock d***s) anyway. Manson's new album is not metal I agree but when has Manson ever really been metal? I like Manson but damn. He's not metal.
60. writes:

"oh, MCR is punk."
punk my ass. DEAD KENNEDYS IS PUNK. f*** YOU ANTIHAPPY EMO b**** YOU HAVE NO f***N IDEA WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE SAYING.
On another note. Jesus is right, Manson not really metal, but it's okay. I did like some songs, EAT ME DRINK ME, is okay.

61. writes:
Why are people still replying to this? I read some of it and it's just a bunch of trendwhores trying to get scene points for saying that mcr sucks. They got some big balls telling that to people that can do nothing to them. Please f***ing grow up already. You all piss me off so much.

62. writes:
I think manson and my chemical romance suck equally, are not metal, both wear makeup similar to the likes of dimmu borgir and other doom and black metal bands, and both of them combined don't have as much talent as kerry kings left nut.
Why wont manson go after old mans child for wearing makeup? No Balls!

63. writes:
MCR might not be punk but leave off on Antihippy man he's a decent guy and I know for a fact he's no emo. Dead Kennedy's are punk but they only ever really had one song I liked which was Holidays In Cambodia. That's class. If you want real punk though there's no finer example than The Damned!

68. writes:
Cha-Chaos, did you see my last post? I've lost hope for you all. I can't believe the entire populaion of such a big site are morons but I guess it's true. This is probably the last time I come here. But I guess you'll all be happy that the guy who ca nactually think for himself and tries to show you the truth. You can all live in your denial now. f***ing christians.

have you heard teenagers?
classic rock is probably the wrong word to use though. what i meant was more like the arena rock scene.
plus wheter or not you like it or not, MCR is punk. generic pop punk sure, not like classic punk bands like dead kennedys, the clash, bad religion, bad brains and bands like those, but they are still punk.
and if you guys know your punk, you would also know that MCR are not f***ing emo or screamo. Emo is a branch of hardcore punk and post- hardcore with bands like rites of spring, saetia, circle takes the square, hot cross, and off minor to name a few. so please don't insult emo/screamo by grouping them along with bands like MCR, fall out boy or panic! at the disco for that matter.

71. writes:
and for that matter, i do think underoath is kinda metal. more metalcore/post-hardcore though. and their latest album is probably their only good one (haven't heard their earlier albums though. they do have other albums before Their only chasing Safety).
i also haven't been to a metal concert yet, but i'm only 14 so lay off alright?
plus atreyu f***ing digusts me, so please stop associating me with them.

75. writes:
There is nothing punk about The Black Parade though. That draws it's influences more from Queen and sh** like that than punk. Yeah The Ramones were good but they've become like a brand now ya know? Everyone just walks around in a Ramones shirt without even knowing who they are. The Stooges were great and I never liked New York Dolls much. The Exploited are f***ing brutal aswell.

77. writes:
This kind of shocked me, i do like both artist,( MCR more...) But i AM going to have to side with My Chemical Romance. Marilyn Manson is acting like a child, not once have i seen anything that reminded me of Marilyn Manson that MCR did. Marilyn Manson is just trying to do something to get attention. for his Shock Factor is getting old, and a better band is taking his place. And with My Chem's new cd, The Black Parade, They mentioned about Queen, but NOTHING about Marilyn Manson. If Marilyn Manson wants to attack someone, try for Fall Out Boy. Good Job MM, you made me hate you now. <3

80. writes:
Guys, knock it out already, it's time we grow up and stay away from such obvious fact that Manson is trying to gain back popularity for his new album 'eat me, drink me'. I mean, I'm no Manson hater but ain't no mansonite either.
I hate anything that has to do with Emos though, and would be extremely pleased to do a flame war on them, or just give them a rusty blade to finish off their lives. (Trust me, most of them would run away) They don't like dying, just there for the attention.
... Stop all these freakshow nonsense. Period.

first off f*** mcr. second everyone rips off everyone, so no one is really original when it comes to the more modern bands and third marilyn manson is stating his opinion and this is not the first time it has been directed to someone specific...
i am with MM in this one....
