Well, I honestly didn't get into them long enough. The only 'Ostego' song I like is 'Ostegolectric'. Actually, the only full album I have and enjoy from them is 'Shadow Zone'

But I can't turn from an offer of a free guitar. Right now, ANY GUITAR is better than my current one!

Okay, now here's my thoughts on each streamed track...

01. Cannibal --- Too repetitive
02. No Submission --- Mosh worthy, and holy sh**! They're playing solos! And its an awesome solo!!! They're actually taking a step in the right direction toward METAL!
03. Behemoth --- Okay, I really wanted to hear a song with the same name as my favorite band, but for some reason it wouldn't play, so whenever thats fixed, I'll have a listen to it.
04. Chemical Logic --- Link didn't work, as with track 03, so whenever they fix that I'll check it out
05. Destroyer --- Destroyer is ok, but again kinda repetitive. Again, a solo, and its good.
06. Forty Ways --- Didn't work so I have yet to hear it
07. Chroma-Matic --- Nice enough beginning riff, very much your average Static-X song. However, I can definitely see they're actually making the effort to be more Metal this time around. I like that. I think if they made the track louder and alittle faster riff with maybe a better drummer, this would be moshworthy (Static-X, remember, Blast beats are your friend). Also, another great solo (well great for a start at least, but still, they're making a step in the right direction for metal)
08. Cuts You Up --- Pretty Techno-ish beginning for like 10 seconds, but on average a song that you can tell is Static-X, but sounds kinda repetitive in the beginning verse. And another solo! And its GREAT! If the guitarist played it even faster, he'd be even more my style, but the guitarist definitely has skill. I think at this point, I'll actually try to get this album, or at least burn it off soulseek or LimeWire...
09. Reptile --- Didn't work
10. Electric Pulse --- Intro is very much the Static-X we're used to. And same for the melody, and riffing here. But again, kickass solo, the solo in this one reminds me of Chris Amott or the lead axeman of Nevermore, and thats a good thing.
11. Goat --- Didn't work (okay, this whole 'stream link being gay' isn't working for me)
12. Team Hate --- Didn't work!

Okay, long story short, my thoughts on the album:
Pretty good, considering that their stuff doesn't usually have any noteworthy solos in it, they're doing better, and they're definitely heading in the right direction metalwise. I think if they got a better drummer (like Inferno or even Joey Jordison), the album (from what I heard minus the fvcked up links) would make me a bigger fan of the group. I think they're melodies could've been faster, and then it would be alittle more awesome. But I think I'll get the album

People are really underestimating the rebound factor of this album. It is not an everyday occurrence a band who's mediocre to sub par experimentation gets extinguished and the band rights itself rediscovering their true direction. That is what we have here on Cannibal a true return to what Static-X stands for. Now this album isn't the greatest piece of record in music history however it does hold its own when stacked up against Wisconsin Death Trip and Machine. Now that they have the METAL coursing through their veins look for Static-X to take it tot he next level with the follow up to Cannibal, baby steps people baby steps.

I remember way back getting the Static X tape (YES the WDT TAPE, god time is flying) and just being instantly mesmerized by the songs, I mean one after another I was like wow can these guys do any wrong? That tape sat in my tapedeck in my car for probably over a year, I'd probably go so far to say 2 years, no joke. It was just perfect music for me to get pumped and get emotional to, it served its purpose perfectly so i didn't bother searching out other bands.

This album however on the first listen through didn't grab me with anything at all. The album does for the most part seem to just bleed the tracks together. There's not much seperation between them. Dare I say they all kind of sound the same.

I will say that the effort and techical things gone into making the album are fantastic, I mean the tracks are supremely well done for what they are, it's just that not much happens to be super catchy or original. I think being more metal wasn't necessarily a great idea. I think things need to be mashed up a bit, more variety.

I think the formula is there though. If only they can get back to a cross of this album with the wierdness of Wisconsin Death Trip they will have THE album.

I love this album, some songs are repetative, but System hasnt always been the non repetative type. I dont know what to say yet cause im in class, but hell if you havnt bought it, download it. I am going to see them live at HoB chicago this year, and i cant wait. Chemical Logic, if you want to really know what its like, id say Stati-X "machine" days.
