Metallica Enter The Studio And Begin Recording
Band Photo: Metallica (?)
Metallica left the comfort of HQ this week to descend upon the greater Los Angeles area to begin recording their 9th original album. This is the first time they've recorded outside of the Bay Area since they spent an eternity at One-On-One Studios recording The Black Album in '90 and '91. The last couple days have been devoted to each band member working out the right sounds, including Lars who remembered to turn on the snare and Kirk who played a solo.

I think if they did a couple things in the studio, they might actually come out sounding good again. First off, James needs to back off of the mic, and stop the texas barbeque rock singing. With his earlier vocals, his vocal is more distant from the microphone, and more scratchy. Lars needs to get his kick drum back to the "and justice..." days. Kirk can still be Kirk, just get those damn solos out! Their bass player, being as how he allready plays amazing with his fingers, doesnt need to worry. As long as he can keep his chops up with some fast thrash riffs, and his bass doesnt dissapear in the mix, he'll be fine. Overall, if they do all of this and combine it with thrash songs, they will be perfect.

Metallica are an evolving band and I respect the fact they have the balls to experiment istead of churning out the stuff time and time again.
Yes, St. Anger was not their finest work and sounded like a stripped down version of the original band that did not do justice to what they can produce.
But if the new songs they played during last years escape tour are anything to go on the new album will definately erase the disapointment of St. Anger. Either way I cant wait to hear their next sound, Metallica ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of you fools that come on these Metallica posts and spew your hateful garbage are damned hypocrites. Obviously, there was SOME reason you clicked on the Metallica news link to see what it said. So, either you are lying to yourselves or you're just an a$$hole with nothing better to do than to sh** on other people. If that is the case, then you should just go shoot yourself in the head because the world has enough a$$holes already.

AE made some good points and I agree with him. I respect Metallica because they are all in fact, and reguardless of people seem to think now a days, great musicians. I have always been a fan of their older music and just out of curiosity and as a musician myself I will be picking up the new album when it comes out... as long as it isn't another St. Anger (A fine example of when not to let the public know when you are "experimenting.")

to all beer drinking mindless cavemen who have been saying "well then go do it yourself": if i was currently involved in the music business where i had people grabbing me by the balls every which way of my life and telling me what to do every two seconds, AND i had the unlimited resources that metallica does, AND i knew that my record would sell instantly to millions. I would create a better album.

i fully agree with each and everyones opinion on this subject...i realize we can't go back in time and change things...and the guys in the band are soooo cool...
oh wait...i thought this thread was about gwar.....oops..well....as far as metallica is concerned............................................................they blow a$$ you bedroom -rockers!! metallica f***ing sucks

I agree that metallica is an evolving band, i mean i started liscening to them for like 4 months now. Their most reccent album just BLEW ME AWAY and its a major improvment from their old sh** like master of puppets and their black album. Also kirks solos are a major improvment from those old dry whistles. Plus i can tell they are all working out!!! Second cliff burton sucked at bass i like the new Guy hes sooo like different. anyway:
tat tat my fellow metalheads!!

Yet another great point made by AE. Record companies are a pretty cut and dry business, they pay to produce and then sell the artists' records. And Metallica's name alone sells their CDs, so they could easily drop their lable and resign with any lable they want because that lable would know that Metallica is easy money for them. And rockStar, thank the gods I know you are kidding because Cliff Burton is a legend among all bassists, and even Les Claypool admits there really hasn't been a bassist like him since he died... as for your opinion on St. Anger (If you really arn't joking about that) then at least... ummm, you have ears and can hear music?

Blah blah f***ing blah. . . If you look back through the last few hundred news posts on this website about Metallica, each and every one of the comments that follows is the same old sh**. "Metallica suck, master of puppets was their best album, everything post black album sucks, st anger was a piece of sh**, and i hate lars". . .does anyone have anything intellectual to say? I guess all the sh** talk will end when the new album comes out. Sigh.
By the way. . .DrunkGal, youre so cute when you're angry. :-)

AE hit it on the head with 'texas barbecue rock singing'...LOL!
Well, PorcupineTree fan, I would agree with you in the first post, but from what I've heard so far, Metallica might actually have a chance at coming back from their sh1te albums from the Black Album forward, and might come close to their better former selves pre-Black Album.

1. They must tune back up to E.
2. Somebody buy james a bottle of jack.
3. Somebuddy tell james to stop "singing", he has to shout the words.
4. No more slow songs. The tempos of a song must be equal to, or faster than a bird's heart rate.
5. Lars needs to dig through his attic for his old 10 piece drum set. The set he uses now is gay.
6. Somebody take kirks wah pedal, and destroy in front of him. Send him back to Joe's(satriani) house for some lessons.
7. Lars and James must grow their hair back. You cant be metal if you dont even try to make an effort to look metal. f*** man...
Knowing metallica, they wont be competent enough to follow this recipe for success. I hereby change metallicas name to "Nigtallica"...
f*** Nigtallica.

This bothers me a lot that they are working on yet another album. Then again there will always be a need and want for pop music for the young teens of the day. In that very sense, keep making your music Metallica. As for the rest of us we can move on and consider other albums in the works and be really happy for the bands who make good music and don't appeal to the MTV or VH1 crowds like Metallica has done.
Oh and when this album comes out please lets save our breath and not complain about it. Yes I know the first 4 albums were great and fun, but it seems like there has been so much complaining since the Black album that it seems that we should just move on and understand that Metallica will never release a work of art like Master of Puppets ever again.
