Van Halen To Be Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Van Halen to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday along with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, R.E.M., the Ronettes and Patti Smith. A panel of 600 industry experts selected the five artists to be inducted at the annual ceremony, to be held March 12 in New York.

Van Halen was the 1980s hard rock quartet led by guitarist Eddie Van Halen, outrageous lead vocalist David Lee Roth, and later rocker Sammy Hagar, that put out hits such as "Jump" and "Dreams."

To be eligible, artists must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years before nomination.

ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME! It's going to be an ugly ceremony for VH though. Dave and Ed together, eh i dunno. I don't want to ruin any chances of a reunion. Might as well have Sammy represent for vocals

It's weird how Sammy has all of sudden stopped badmouthing Eddie Van Halen since they've been named to the hall. Over the last year, he blamed the failed Van Hagar reunion on Eddie's drinking, stating he didn't understand what Eddie was playing half the time. The reality is, Sammy can't sing anymore and signed autographs while Eddie and the band played. It's well known that Roth has sold twice as many records in Van Halen than Hagar has and has more solo Platinum records than Hagar. Don't belive me though, just check riaa.com, the Recording Industry of America. They keep track of such things. Sammy's best selling record, 5150, took 8 years to sell what 1984 sold in it's first year. And the VH debut album was on the charts twice as long as any Van Hagar #1 album. There is simply no comparison - Van Halen is with David Lee Roth, the one and only!

Not all the blame can fall on Sammy or Eddie. If it were not for Sammy, Mike would not have even been on the last tour. Eddie didn't want him there!!! So before we get on out DLR high horse make sure we know all the facts.

Also Hal check your facts 5150 was the first number one for any of them Alex Van Halen says. 1984 only went to number 2 in bilboard. So we don't know it all do we???

All in all it is about time. I just am reluctant to see what happens at the induction. That might be a mess.

All right people, stop arguing over who should be there and for what reason or I will have to bering up a certain other "extreme" lead singer for the band!
I'm a huge VH fan and think that each lead singer was right for the band at the time they fronted it, with the forementioned "extreme" replacement.
Can't we all just get along.

excuse me, I meant 'without the forementioned "extreme" replacement.'
I saw them on the 3 tour and got to meet them all, it was a good show and they were all nice enough, but the arguement should only be a bout Dave and Sammy.

Here is the definative end to this argument. Since when is Grandmaster Flash considered Rock and Roll? Also, it's the BAND Van Halen. That includes the tool from Extreme. Who cares anyway? One. This induction doesn't mean anything anyway. Isaac Hayes, Miles Davis, Parliament, and Al Green are in the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame. (That's Soul, Jazz, Funk and R&B. This is not a black thing either. Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, and Otis Redding are in there and deserve to be.) Two. They just have to get along for a couple hours, and play a song or two. It's not like they're being forced to tour for a few months.

Yeah-but Grand Master Flash was tha sh**! The Message was a hot track. We all know that its really about pop music-MOST of these definitions only apply because we make them (this is the Nu Metal vs NWOBHM vs Grunge arguement-its all just marketing). Hip Hop is just an extension of RnB and Soul which an extension of rock n roll which is an extension of blues. They're all basically just adjustment to social conditions and technology.

Back to Van Halen-I hope Roth doesn't act like a d***, Eddie plays the right song sober and Hagar doesn't just talk sh**.

If you're talking the various ways rock has progressed through the years, then you're absolutely right. I just think in this dumb culture, everything is branching out and "needs" it's own label and classification. It all started with calling a certain type of music, Alternative. What a unimaginative move. I'm a big fan of your basic classifications of music. Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Rap, Soul, Jazz, Classical, and Pop. You can classify any kind of music in those catergories. The only band with its own musical classification is Primus.

I personally think the DLR era is the best Van Halen... I liked everything they did, up until 1984.....after that I think it all sucked no matter who was singing....Sammy Hagar was better on his own.... Hell, for that matter Sammy Hagar was best with Montrose..!!!
and the dude from Extreme isnt even worth mentioning...
