The saying goes that “time heals all wounds”, I find it to be an expression that fails to capture how slow and awkward the process of healing can be. It’s been two years since the unexpected passing of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and the metal community is still adjusting. Bands continue to fervently tribute songs and even entire sets and albums to the man. As a fan, hearing any Pantera song today summons more emotions than originally intended. It’s remarkable and somewhat amusing, to find oneself tearing up to “Five Minutes Alone”. Slowly however, I find that the more often I play a Pantera song, the less it feels like a part of the grieving process.

Metal Underground.com has become one of the many hubs where Dime’s creative impact and his passing still resonate. Virtually every thread relating to Pantera and Damage Plan boast a countless array of heartfelt sentiments from admirers across the globe. Coping has not come easily but fans continue to celebrate Darrell Abbott’s life by blasting his music at preposterous volumes and toasting with his patented Black tooth grin. Some find solace in the killer having been felled by a 12 gauge shotgun to the face, metal justice by anyone’s standards but poor consolation nonetheless. Most still ponder the hows and whys of the tragedy, while recieving little in the way of answers or closure. While fans will always be distressed and confused by the actions of one lone lunatic, it’s Darrell Abbott’s friends and family who have suffered the most.

Only recently have we seen any signs of recovery from the surviving members of Pantera and Damage Plan. Darrels brother, Vinnie Paul Abbott, has continued to keep himself busy with his advice column in Revolver Magazine. Last month he dubbed his newly formed supergroup Hell Yeah, which features members of Mudvayne and Nothingface. Similarly, Patrick Lachman went on to front the Mercy Clinic, while Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo have been hard at work on the next Down record.

Like all so called legends, Dimebag has a legacy of achievements that may eclipse -who- the man was. By all accounts, Darrell Abbott was a gracious and personable individual, known to wade amongst the masses at shows, personally handing out tickets, merchandise and even drinks to his fans. Dime was also in the habit of greeting new tour mates (read: total strangers) like they were old friends. Members of Shadows Fall, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Korn and Black Label Society have all been taken aback by Darrell’s outgoing hospitality.

In celebrating Dime’s monumental impact, it’s important that we as fans do not deify him. Darrell Abbott was many things to many people but no more or less human than anyone else. By living out his childhood dream and utilizing sheer force of will, he reinvented metal during the reign of grunge. It's conceivable that metal music might still be saving face from the extended glam farce of the 80's, if not for the cowboys from hell. We owe it to Dime and ourselves, to carry on his legacy but not with the sad bastard-fanaticism some reserve for Presley, Cobain, Hendrix and Lennon. On this, the second anniversary of his passing, the man who helped devise “Vulgar Display of Power” would rather us be banging our heads than hanging them.

Yeah... the Line6 is a great amp... Fantastic effects and lots of options... Mine is the Spider2...120 watt with 2 10s(Celestions)..The quality is top notch and they're quite durable.... I have used mine for playing live..either mic'd or direct-out to the PA....It works great both ways....!!!!!
I seen now where they have just released the Spider3 series..So now the prices should drop on the 2 series that many stores still have left over... In fact I was thinking of selling mine...??? I have a couple smaller amps that I use for quiet practicing... I just want more guitars...!!!!

But when I bought my Marshall, I didn't need the metal zone because my amp sounds so great. So if you have a cheap amp, go for the pedal but if you buy a very good amp, don't bother. What do you guys think ?

But, this old Randall 4/10 amp that I have, doesnt have any distortion whatsoever.. (only- speed -depth and reverb )..It is a unique old amp..While I was researching it through Randall/Washburn they tell me that there was only maybe a dozen of these made as an experiment in about '81 or '82..they didnt even keep track of numbers or dates...Its a f^ckin animal...300 watts pounding those 4-10s is F^CKING loud... I run my Digitech processor thru it and it just screams.... way more power than I will ever need..!!! Hence the reason it sits under its cover until I play outside of the house...

by the way....Lefty's have always puzzled me...why is it, that you are that way.???..Did you think that you had to be different than the rest of us..???
Now, I am not a prejudiced person..... I have made the point that I do own a couple color TVs..and a black dog...!!!

Advice to leftys would be to learn right handed even if its tougher to begin with. You'll reap the rewards later. There's just such a sh** choice of guitars because the range is so limited but meh, I'm pretty happy with my axe at the moment.

So, from starting out with that, I now have myself spoiled with a recording studio/toyroom that I sit in for hours.....doing pinchies and chatting with you guys....and well playing with myself and all my toys..... There is a killer programmable drum machine in my Zoom recorder...I spend hours just playing with myself...Its quite alot of fun.. I know that sounds funny but, its better than dealing with a drummer that cant count...

As for the amp dreams you speak of Red_Chord... the Krankenstein of DIMEBAGS making...would be a nice choice.!!!!! I would also like to play through one of the Fender Metal Head stacks...those things are pushing up to 550 watts...thats pure f^ckin insanity..!!!

But ,I'll stick with my old Randall......why..???? Well, they were the longtime amp of choice for the man himself..!!!! And I was fan of Dimebag too...!!!! can I get an AMEN...??

Well, I had that, for about 2 years...up until about 6 months ago...then he decided to try and screw my old lady out of what amounts to about 10 grand in a business deal.... So now, we will be sitting in a courtroom across from each other.....and needless to say...there is no more jammin...
We had a couple dozen songs ready to record..I bought the recorder and the PA and he ended up being an idiot...
So, now I sit here feeling like I need a couple more years of education to figure out this digital recorder... Its got 8 tracks and an optional 10 "virtual" tracks for each of those 8 tracks... It will record up to 6 tracks at once...
This is ridiculous...As for the instruction manual..I have seen smaller encylypedias....

The drum machine is great...tons of patterns and presets that are completly tweakable..And on top of that you can create your own patterns with the gaggle of touch pads..choice of drum kits modeling etc...I run it all through my PA here in my toyroom and sounds great...
Someday, I will lay off the herb long enough to get all of my music recorded and mixed properly...Its tough laying down all the tracks alone seperatly....much less going back laying leads down over yourself playing rythm and bass too....And the worst is trying to get the drum lines perfect with properly placed changes etc.... Its very time consuming and frustrating...

Perhaps, with a few less pinchies I could accomplish more..but hey..I figure what the hell....Its not like I promised anyone an album over a decade ago....
