Ozzy Osbourne Struggles At Ozzfest

Jon M. Gilbertson of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reviewed this year's Ozzfest when it hit the the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin on Saturday (July 22). An excerpt from his review follows:
The traveling heavy-metal mega-show known as Ozzfest has lasted for 11 years thus far, and a lot of that longevity might have to do with the man for whom the festival is named: John Michael Osbourne, a.k.a. Ozzy.
Nevertheless, when his festival stopped by the Alpine Valley Music Theatre on Saturday, Ozzy was headlining the second stage (normally for lesser-known bands) about 4 p.m. (so as not to interfere with the main stage's entertainment, which began after his set odd scheduling for a man nicknamed "the Prince of Darkness").
If he didn't melt in the light, he didn't shine, either. He displayed his usual demeanors — that of a 12-year-old child when excited about audience response and that of a schoolmarm when gently exasperated about insufficient audience response — but he didn't match his legend.
Normally, the classic songs, from power ballad "Mama, I'm Coming Home" to the ever-barreling "Crazy Train", would have carried Ozzy, as would have the solid three- piece band, including solo-heavy guitarist Zakk Wylde.
Yet Ozzy was not in tune, vocally, with the band or in sync with the crowd, problems all the more sadly evident without the sort of eerie, Halloween-style power he can have under cover of night.

I was in Detroit for the July 19th show and I must say that I'd rather make out with my grandma than see Disturbed live ever again. And System of a Down was a horrible disappointment as well. They should either have had Hatebreed headline or Black Label Society. The way I see it is that if Ozzy can't do it anymore, either they f***ing stop before it becomes a mockery or let Zakk take over. It seems like the only logical solution.

Yeah, I was at Alpine. He only played the second stage. He did play either a new song or a rare b-side of somesort. but Distubed was disipointing, however, SOAD did an awsome job. Hatebreed and Lacona Coil did a great job as well. But the day deffenitly belonged to BLS. THEY KICKED A$$.

Lets face the overly evident and abundant facts, shall we?...
1.) Ozzy is getting up there, he was at his prime in Sabbath when my Dad was still in highschool and he was pushing the envelope of his solo endeavors from 1983-1992....When I was ages 3-12.
2.) It was 4:00pm in the middle summer...As the article stated he's "the prince of f***ing darkness", I'm an outdoor person but I keep to the dusk and night time hours during the summer.
3.) Like most humans, I'm subject to having good days and bad...The Ozz had a not so great day, at least he's trying for his fans.
4.) He didn't anticipate doing many shows this year so I'm sure he's not as physically and mentally geared up as in previous years.
...I think thats all I can come up with....Just trying to put some perpective into this.
