Audience recorded sound and video clips of METALLICA performing an as-yet-untitled new song during their headlining appearance Tuesday, June 6 at Waldbuhne in Berlin, Germany have been posted online. You can check out the links to an MP3 and video segments here and another video at YouTube.com.

As on the first two dates on the band's current "Escape From The Studio '06" tour, METALLICA played their entire 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", at the Berlin show, including rarely performed tracks such as "Orion" and "Disposable Heroes". The concert's second encore also featured a rendition of the RAMONES classic "Commando", with members of support band AVENGED SEVENFOLD joining in on vocals.

METALLICA will head back into the studio to resume work on their ninth studio effort after completing this summer's festival run.

Man, I thought that was one BORING song. I found myself saying, "Um, where's the aggression and vibrance?" I'll go in openminded, but solo or not, that was NOT a good song. Just my opinion, not trying to bash. Maybe after another listen or 2, but right now I'm not impressed.

might not be their best material, but it's got a solo in it, which means they aint doing st anger again. which makes me beyond happy... also, it's probably still being tossed around the drawing board, differed and improved in little ways. I didn't mind it. Not the best piece of music, but not the worst piece of sh**, either.

The new track's not bad, I'll grow to it, but their older sh*ts better... which kinda goes without saying. And I think I speak for the most of us when I say hope the new album won't be a repeat of St. Anger.

Not sure on the verse..it has a st. anger vibe which should be avoided. Intro is good, after that they repeat a few weaker riffs too many times..too much reptition makes weaker riffs stand out so hopefully they chop some of that out of the final mix. Solo is stock but i still love it...as ppl have said, kirk just needs to wank over the fretboard and it will be a better album by far.

Theres a riff after the solo,..killer man, reminds me of kill em all or early mustang stuff. The chorus i think is a little weak. I didnt understand any of the lyrics...its v. rough..cant wait for the final mix should be 10 times better.

Ok, I listened to "new song" many times, as a Drummer myself, the drum part is clearly still in development, i love the intro, but after that it's a mix between Load and St anger, the solo kinda remind me of the good old speed days, but the singing part is awful , anyway , new song is not a new " master of puppets" but still better than St anger, at least Lars tuned his snare drum this time !!! and there's a guitar solo finally, at this point I really doubt Metallica will deliver a "trash metal" album , and mark my words , the next album will be a mix between load and St anger, wich is a really bad mix.

i've listened to it five or six times, and it's ok. yeah, i think the song is still in development, and rick rubin probably hasn't gotten his hands on it yet.
it's a bit too long, but we'll see when the record comes out.
definitely a step in the right direction. i wonder what the rest of the album will sound like.

this song is definately a mix between load and st. anger, with a couple of the riffs sounding like pre-1986 metallica, but the vocals throw it off a bit. If James sung like he did back in the early 80's with that beautiful shriek, i think everything would be alright again....

I must say, this song is very good. It has a nice vibe commin off of it. The solo is good for the most part, the part before the last part (yeah, confusing I know) is alright but other than that the song is good. I think we all know James doesn't do live singing as well as he could, and ever since Load he's just kinda dropped the constant screaming, which in a way is a good thing. But do remember this: if you watch a video of them doing music before RTL he sings almost the same way.

Anyways, I think the riffs are great and by the one part in the chorus that goes, "Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to say goodbye to ourselves" the lyrics must be good. There are a few repetitive parts, but it is only in developement, and the CD version will sound differently anyways. I'm glad they aren't doing another St. Anger, although I liked it I know they needed to make it to get out all of that damn anger they've had stored up against each other, especially James and Lars. And to people who talk about Jason... while he is a great Bassist, he never contributed anything other than Blackened. Either way, Load/Reload was great, and Jason seemed to have gone that way which is cool to me. I can definately see a Robert Trujillo influence in the riff and overall song. The beginning sounds like a mix of Harvester of Sorrow and Load. The entire song sounds like a recap of solo's kirk has done, Harvester of Sorrow, Load, TTTSNB, and barely St. Anger. That fast part could stem from Fight fire with fire... Anyways, my two cents turned into a dollar fifty... see ya folks.

It's good. Definately has some awesome parts, repetitive parts and shakey parts, but hey, it's early days. I love the chorus, because its not a typical Metallica chord progression. The intro is great, reminds me of Ride the Lightning. Solo is sweet, very 'Hammett' My point is that its a new direction, but still borrowing idea's from previous albums, which is great!
