Rob Zombie To Direct New "Halloween" Movie

Billboard.com reports: Rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie is resurrecting Michael Myers, one of the big screen's favorite horror villains. Zombie will write and direct a new "Halloween" movie, serving up what is being called as a brand new vision for the long-running horror series. He will also serve as a producer and a music supervisor on the film.
An October 2007 release is being planned. Disney's Miramax Films will co-finance the development with former Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Dimension Films.
The movie will not be a sequel or a straight-ahead remake of the 1978 original -- which helped director John Carpenter cement his name in the horror business -- but a reimagining that will infuse new blood into the Myers story.
"The look and the feel is going to be completely different," Zombie says. "'Halloween' started off as a very terrifying concept, a terrifying movie. But over the years, Michael Myers has become a friendly Halloween mask. When it came to the point where you could buy a Michael Myers doll that was cute-looking and press its stomach and play the 'Halloween' theme, you knew the scare factor was gone.
"But I think the story and the situation is scary," he continues. "All it needed was someone to come in and to take a totally different approach to make it scary again. To me, that's the challenge and that's the fun."
Zombie is a fan of the original and said he sought Carpenter's blessing. "He said, 'That's awesome, go for it,"' Zombie said. "He was very supportive, which I thought was very important. I feel like 'Halloween' is his baby, and I wanted to be very respectful."

good to see some respect between artists, though. what with so much bickering and backstabbing in the music industry, it's def a nice change when someone actually repects someone else's works.

According to a press release, ZOMBIE will be setting the stage during each stop on the tour, turning the venue "into a funhouse of mystery and madness as creatures walk the stage of pyrotechnics, smoke, and mirrors. LOL to all commnets. Just so you guys know, I enjoy a good horror flick every once in a while. I have to say that I was laughing my azz off when I watched both Zombie movies. The only really scary movie that I have seen was the exorcist. That is because I was a child at the time. As time have gone by, nothing really scares me any more. The Friday the 13th movies were a joke, LOL, The Texas movies were STUPUID. I am looking more for a smart, intense, scary movie and i have yet to find it. KORNDOGG- I have not seen HOSTEL or HIGH TESNSION yet. I think I will order HOSTEL tonight on pay per view. By the way, SAW one and 2, were very boring me to death. I think I fell asleep when I was watching the second one. I don't understand what every one was raving about. This also applies to The Blair With Project, which gave me motion sickness when I watched it what a waste of time that was.
40. writes:
I agree, Vicster, the Hollywoodian idea of a "horror" flick is patheticly far from scary. It tends to be the psycho-thrillers that mess with me - you know the one's that play games with your head, scare you by being disgusting or weird or whatever. Not by having someone jump out of the shadows with a knife or something equally droll. Hostel's pretty good, I'd say. It's not scary in the Hollywoodian sense, it's more scary through the fact that you never know, it could actually happen. Probly not likely, but...who knows?
Personally, I loved the SAW movies. I really enjoyed them, they were fresh, they weren't too Hollywood, and they played with concepts and ideas and imagery that was so disgusting, so far from anything you wanted to think about or envision that it was scary to behold. I think that's why the Exorcist made everyone poop themselves when it first came out.
But the Blair Witch movies were terribly dull.

41. writes:
I have to add, that no matter what anyone says, The Ring scared the f*uck out of me. That freaky a$$ beyotch crawling out of the friggin TV was really spooky! And, funny as it sounds; 28 Days Later also scared me!!!! Silver Bullet scared me......... Oh, and I have a huge crush on Pinhead from Hellraiser. You know what other movie scared me, was Night of the Comet. haha

42. writes:
To VICSTER & psythe:-I agree the fact is I have been watching horror films for years and have become de-sensitised.I am not sure what would really scare me now,"Texas Chainsaw .........." did scare the sh** out of me when I was a teenager but now at times it is almost black comedy.Films like music are personally subjective. What really scares me is the thought of what everyday people get upto behind closed doors. The idea of "SNUFF" (an urban myth?) or "Child/Adult sex slavery".Consensual porn between adults is fine but some of the things available over the internet are just sick what people around the world file-share with each other I dread to think. The idea that to some people human life is such a cheap commodity. If the truth be told horror films are entertainment but if any us reading these posts were in any of the real-life situations (Kidnapped/Snuff film/Raped/Tortured etc) we would all be suitably traumatised the world at large and some of the people wh inhabit it are scary not film.

43. writes:
Just to add about the "RING" I presume you mean japanese version. When Sadako comes out of the TV I agree it should be f***ing ridiculous spoof like but man there is something beyond creepy it's the way she moves for me spider like robotic (I have a phobia of spiders wimp I know).A classic moment in horor in my opinion.
44. writes:
man, i couldnt agree more with you (post 43), soteg. we've all been desensitized by the media (i dont just mean the tv news), and as every next generation matures, it takes more and more to shock/horrify/scare/unsettle us. rape and torture scare the everloving sh** out of me, though. which is mostly why Hostel messed with me. Saw 2 (the first intro scene where the guy had the death mask on and the key inside his eye made me literally sick - and the guy that got roasted disgusted me. i laughed at the stupid chick who put her hands up through those razors into the box though) wasnt quite so bad, but I'm not a fan of needles at all...got no problems with spiders, though. but i agree, the way she moved "spider like robotic" was pretty f***in creepy. and the american version of Ring was lame. no, it was beyond lame. the Japanese did it justice. and on that note, the Grudge was - no, i cant even explain how much it failed to horrify or scare me. which in itself explains it.

45. writes:
TO psythe:-If memory serves you live in Australia ? You'd better not have a problem with spiders/crocs/snakes or else you live in the wrong country dude !! The bit in SAW 2 with the needles made me cringe (H.I.V. infected lovely)I actually thought the girl with her hands in the box was pretty hot I thought that guy was going to......well you know rather than just check her number.JU-ON the Japanese grude is creepy but Hollywood remakes don't cut it,I think it's because most of us no what's coming it's like paint by numbers.Japnese horror at the time was less predictable it's a culture thing.

46. writes:
No, I did not mean the Japanese Ring. That movie was funny to me...... the special effects were so lame, their facial expressions were comical, not scary. The American version was much creepier to me..... maybe because I saw that version first? I have not seen the Saw movies, nor do I want to -- they just look stupid. I do want to see Hostile though. I am much more into thrillers and suspense films, because they are more realistic to me. As in, the events could actually happen in real life...

47. writes:
To lorlor:-With regards to the "RING" it may well be because you saw the U.S. version first that you don't find the Japanese original scary. The U.S. version was a better made film. For me personally though I don't find CGI/Special Effects effective in horror. The premise of the film was so simple but effective that's for sure.As for SAW I assure you it is a very clever film and original but films are like music though subjective. I agree with you about "Hostel".I find "real life" has the potential to be more scary there are some messed up people prowling this planet. The acts of rape/torture/snuff/murder are something which is probably happening as I type this and you read this somewhere in world right now, that truly is a sobering thought !
48. writes:
hahahah, yeah, not a good place to be if you're not big on deadly animals, hey. at least we don't have Black Mambas, though, those things are f***ed up! Nah, I got no problems at all with snakes or spiders or crocs or whatever else. I mean, you try and steer clear of them, of course, but it's not like you never leave your home out of fear of the stupid things. I'd say crocs would be the worst of the three. I've been swimming in croc-infested waters, that's pretty scary. huge thrill rush :P
yeah, man, it's not what is shown, or how it's shown, it's the concept behind what is shown that scares the crap outta me. The idea of some freaky bastard with a chainsaw sushi-ing me, or some random burnt dude with wolverine-like claws scraping me in my dreams, or being in such a desperate situation that I have to saw my own goddamn foot off to get the f*** outta there makes me absolutely wet myself. well, not literally, but if it actually happened to me, urine running down my leg would be the last thing I'd be worrying about, I'd probly just let it flow.
Lorlor - as soteg said, the Saw movies are actually pretty good. They're original, made to scare through disgust and the possibility that it could logically, actually happen rather than suspense, and they're very clever films in that everything that happens is based exactly on a "what would a human REALLY do", not "what will look really cool to the movie-goers" perception. That's what makes them so much more akin to real life, it's so much easier to put yourself in the victim's shoes. which makes it SO much scarier than any hollywood bogus horror flick. The other cool thing about them is that Saw (the first one) was an amateur film; made with basically no budget at all, especially compared to what Hollywood films are made on.
oh, and us monkeys? yeah, we're some f***ed up animals.

Is this the movie you are talking about Korndogg?
Plot Outline Widower takes an offer to screen girls at a special audition, arranged for him by a friend to find him a new wife. The one he fancies is not who she appears to be after all...
Plot Synopsis: Seven years after the death of his wife, company executive Aoyama is invited to sit in on auditions for an actress. Leafing through the resumés in advance, his eye is caught by Yamazaki Asami, a striking young woman with ballet training. On the day of the audition, she's the last person they see. Aoyama is hooked. He notes her number from her file, calls her and takes her to dinner. He hesitates to call again, worried that he'll seem too eager. When he does, Asami knowingly lets the phone ring for some time before answering. She's alone in her darkened room - alone, that is, apart from the writhing victim she has tied up in a sack on the floor...

It seems that Hollywood is running out of "fresh ideas". All the remakes have been a horrification. Now they are tapping in to scary video games. They are getting worse and worse by the minute. As you guys were talking about SAW, let me tell you where that movie lost me. The part where Danny Glover runs in to the "culprit" (sorry guys, can't remember the name of the charatcter or actor) in the wherehouse and he did not shoot him. That is where everything went downhill for me. Carry Lewis's character, really, really, really bad acting, as well as a very bad make up job. I understand that this was a low budget movie, but still. I think I could have done a better job myself.

62. writes:
TO:-VICSTER I have to agree with you about Danny Glover's character.I guess it's like all films.Film bad-guys or good-guys, they never just walk upto their nemesis and "BANG" blow them away.I did think personally overall it was better than the average "Hollywood Flick."I am sure on reading these posts that KORNDOGG/psythe/lorlor/leelee/You and I should club together and make a horror film of our own.The only problem being it would probably be banned in every country worldwide !! ok. first, it would start with pulling or burning off every hair on your body. eyelashes, eye brows, everything. Next, the fingernails and toenails would be forced backwards and pulled off slowly.
