Site Update
Font Size and Site Design Tweaks
Due to reader feedback, the default font size on metalunderground.com has been slightly increased and is now closer to the original font size prior to the redesign that rolled out earlier this month. I've since discovered that Mac users viewing the site in Safari have a smaller default font than other browsers, so the small type was especially hard to read for them. In the case that text (or specific parts of the site such as the new releases, which is very small text) is not legible, some customization features have been added, which you can currently access in the footer of the page (they need a more prominent placement eventually). There, you can change the font size by clicking on the "small," "medium," "large," and "XL" links and your preference will be saved to a cookie on your computer.
In general, there are still some minor tweaks being made to the entire site, and each section is being addressed one at a time in order to uncover any problems and polish them up. If you have and serious problems with a part of the site aside from some text looking weird, please let us know. Thanks for your feedback and your patience.

Deathbringer - i hate to sound like an a-hole and * im only speaking for MYSELF when i say this *... but i think you should put more effort in the cd release section update wise and stray away or do away with little things like road reports, just for fun, latest interviews, latest reviews, band updates, latest links, etc... cause im just saying all i look at on here is the metal news and releases section... theres alot of major bands missing from the release section still (unearth, hatebreed, lamb of god, etc.) Keep in mind... i have no clue if your running this site solo or what but if you are id stray away from the little things i mentioned above and just focus on the metal news and release date section. Keep up the good work, only trying to help.

To back up my last post, i only said that bc you said the release section was "just another thing to try to keep up with"... well if you completely got rid of everything else on this site and only updated 2 things: the "news headlines" section / "album release" section... - the workload would be way lighter on yourself im sure. Since finding this site i've only used it for:
- browsing the "metal news headlines" on the homepage
- browsing the "album release section" on the homepage
- looking at the latest news for a band i like in the "bands" section
If you took all those other things away, the site can only get better bc youd be keeping up with what really makes this site special, plus everything on the homepage wont look so crammed like other people suggested in the past if you only had 2 things on it ya know.

Blackdog, the search by keywords is on my list, but pretty far down it since searching by band will get you what you need usually. As for the spam, I am careful not to delete anyone else's posts but the offender and will put some more tools in place to make it even easier to quickly clean up such a mess.

i like the new format and i disagree with slayerhead that "road reports, just for fun, latest interviews, latest reviews, band updates, latest links, etc... " should all go. The site is not for cd releases info only. i use it more to read about the latest metal news. However most bands don't have any updates and they're major bands too...I'd like that some history about the band is posted. And what do you think of a multimedia section where one can download stuff?
22. writes:
lol, do you realise just how long it would take to write a comprehensive history of every band listed there?
as for the downloading stuff, I'm happy with the current way of doing things; you guys tell us where to download it, but don't actually supply the song/album/artwork etc yourself. works for me and it's quick and easy and wonderfully useful.
I have one small complaint - we can't comment on the album reviews. I just read RM?s 10K Days review and wanted to congratulate him on a wonderful job well done/said, and realised I couldn't. lol, so I hope you read this, RM?. good stuff.

Yeah, I'm going to restructure it so that the band bios are more optional, but we'll have more relevant links too. (There are over 4000 bands in our database, so indeed, it is a lot of info to gather.) That's like our approach to downloads and multimedia - that stuff requires TONS of bandwidth, so for now, we'll continue linking to new songs and videos when hear they're released.
As for reviews - I am torn between allowing user reviews or what to do. I certainly don't want comments on reviews to get like some of the news post comments do. I think a forum would be the right place for it, so I'll have to work on that too...

yeah, I understand why you wouldn't want review threads to end up like news threads inevitably do. maybe it should be a feature that requires membership, or you could appoint someone who can allow permission as they see fit to post on reviews and such. you know like, if they see someone posting smartly and not being a general idiot about things, they could grant that person permission to post comments on reviews, as a sort of reward... although, that's sounding more complicated than I originally intended now that I think about it.
25. writes:
i dont think that the general public should be allowed to post for reviews because as you said, it will definitely end up as the other threads with some very downright stupid childish remarks. i think its better if it stays as it is. thanks for thinking about restructuring the bios. wikipedia has some excellent (in my opinion) bios on all sorts of metal bands...i don't know maybe you can copy some of their stuff (without breaching their copyrights, i don't know)

Psythe - "related reviews" and "recently reviewed by..." are now on the reviews pages as well. so if you like RememberMetal's review, you can easily follow up on other stuff he's reviewed recently.
The CD release page - my bad. I uploaded a new Home page with some changes and that link was not supposed to be in there. I guess I'll have to finish the upcoming releases page shortly :-)

great news, deathbringer, thanks for the update. definitely a tool i will use. good luck with the releases page (i'm not sure where you get your info on upcoming releases, probly a myriad of sites, but www.theprp.com has a pretty decent listing to work from - sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already knew).

ahh, ok, so that thing does work - I wasnt sure, coz the rest of the profile stuff isnt ready yet. I'll send it through that, then. It sounded damn credible to me (it's live, and there's video footage too, if you want to see that, or you can just go for the mp3). anyway, i shall, as i said, send it.

definately like the font size buttons, I use firefox and the font was kinda small, and the blue on black that small is kinda hard to read. Large helps out alot, thanks guys!
