Avenged Sevenfold Refuse To 'Talk Shit' About Other Bands Anymore

AVENGED SEVENFOLD have revealed to Kerrang! magazine that their days of shit-talking about other bands are over. The California-based group, who had a run-in with ATREYU last year, put their new attitude down to being more mature. "We don’t slag off any bands anymore because we’re more mature and we're over it now," confessed frontman M. Shadows. "Some of the things we said looked worse than we meant them," added guitarist Zacky Vengeance. They're also determined not to rise to public fall-outs when other bands bait them. "Ninety percent of the bands who have talked shit about us in magazines have asked to be on tour with us," laughed Shadows. "One band who we talked shit about was told by their record company to talk shit back about us just so they could make a story and get some press out of it. It's all politics and bullshit and we're not going to mention other bands' names anymore because we don't want them to get the free publicity."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD's Warner Bros. debut, "City of Evil", was certified gold in January by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies. The group's third album, "City Of Evil" is the follow-up to 2003's "Waking the Fallen", which was issued through Hopeless Records.

Avenged Sevenfold are one of the best bands I've heard in a long time... Scott Weiland is one of my favorite singers, But his music with Velvet Revolver just isn't as good as STP... Also Atreyu are a great band as well.

also, some of you need to learn to distinguish your purist view of metal and talent. just because a band doesn't play typical metal doesn't mean they have no talent.
the world is getting smaller by the day. all genres of music are crossing over. we had to sit through about 6 or 7 years of rap metal, nu metal...whatever the f*** you want to call it. i personally thought not much good ever came out of that, but the point is that some you will like and some you won't like.
whether you like it or not, the next wave has begun, and unfortunately for all the hardcore purists, avenged sevenfold has set the blueprint. i've said it before, they're not "metal", but they are talented and offering up something old mixed with something new, and people generally like it. take it or leave it.

you can see it in many bands that are starting to pop up with a very similar sound now.
in case people haven't realized, popular music cycles with a few changes each time. the eighties "epic" sounding songs are back. more intricate arrangements, guitar solos, harmonies. in a few years, it will have passed, and the wave after that will follow a similar pattern to the change we saw from the eighties to the nineties with new bands that are heavily influenced by grunge. that movement will start with the alice in chains reunion this summer. that's my prediction anyway...history repeating itself.

Nonetheless... one concert, 20 slayer fans (probably escorting their emo kids) and a large fan-based comprised, key word: mainly of trendy teenagers does not change the fact that this band represents a current pop metal trend that will soon be forgotten and should be. Note, I never commented how large said fan base was, just the main demographic that constituted it. I saw them on the warped tour last summer (not by choice; work promotions for a martketing firm and was forced to attend) and my opinion of their on stage talent varies greatly from them putting on a "f***ing good show", but i suppose that is the point of a message board.

"Chapter Four" has a kick-ass guitar riff and some good drumming too! As far as being original, maybe they aren't. But not many bands are. Pretty much all religions are laughably similar to christianity - why? because that's how Christianity proactively caused conversion to their beliefs, by adapting some of the features of other religions into their own, and demonising other religions' gods - thus causing people to become disillusioned with their beliefs and see Christianity as the 'true' religion. basically, there is absolutely NOTHING original about Christianity, it is merely a complicated mix of every other religion to ever exist. but hell, as long as they'r teaching that murder is not a good thing, and that we should all treat others in the same manner as we wish them to treat us, i'v got no problem with their values...maybe a few problems with christians themselves, and how they go about preaching their values and so forth...but the underlying points of christianity (ie, the ten commandments) are valid and worthwhile, i think.

My problem with A7X is that the band members are actually quite capable players and they even live the lifestyle....
BUT
Their new direction is a glam revivalists dream. They live a lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock and rolll...but they're conservatives (!?!??!)...People of their own political persuasion will be pickiting their shows....
My hats off to the drummer and even the guitarists for making a dead sound better, but the terrible singer ruins the whole package with his whiney/sneering voice and done before lyrics.....The songs are cookie cutter by design and the makeup needs to be put back in the time capsule.
I called it if they cover "Girls Girls Girls" and "Cherry Pie".

Stef - fair enough about the rap/music stuff. I respect myself enough to not threaten or curse people needlessly. I feel I would merely be insulting my own intelligence to take such a path. And bashing has never been my thing - constructive criticism is useful, in-depth analysis' are very interesting, and logical, sequitorial debates are much more informed ways of projecting one's opinions, I believe.
To be honest, my library contains three Avenged Sevenfold albums, though I think I may have listened to only a third of these...maybe once...From what I remember, they had an alright sound going in a couple of their songs, but nothing really captured my attention enough to make me listen more or again. As has been said in a few of the previous posts, it's the vocalist that puts me off. Perhaps give him a decade of practice, learning, and experience with some of the big names of underground metal and this band might just have something amazing going - I wouldn't count them off as talentless sell-outs too soon.

A7X is going to be popular with alot of differnt types of people...Kids who are new to rock/metal, the mall-goths, radio-rock listeners, trendies and those that long for a young Motley Crue...and these guys are it....
You can't get a vocalist that sounds more like Vince Neil without actually putting that chubby has been up there. My hats off to A7X for being bolder than say Nickleback....but you can hardly call them metal..I suppose some can and do.

Bottom line, these guys suck and are not only un-talented by horribly un-original. Good job for dumbing down At The Gates riffs and ripping them off. These f***ing metalcore bands are ruining metal, (well its pretty much ruined already actually). Sitting through a song like Unholy Confessions is like listening to melodic metalcore cliches piled atop each other in a f***ing effigy of all that is pathetic.
