Avenged Sevenfold and Coheed and Cambria are hitting the road together for a 31-date US co-headlining tour.

A7x guitarist Synyster Gates comments on the odd pairing of the two bands:

"We're the same kind of band," he reasoned. "You either love us or hate us, so we definitely have that in common. And we believe there will be a crossover there between both our fans. It's not the same genre of music, but the same kids listen to us and them. You know, anything can completely flop and some things can work out perfectly. We're big fans of their music, and I think, from what we hear, they're into us. So, it just felt right. We'll have to see what happens."

The trek was originally conceived as a triple threat: Avenged, Coheed and H.I.M. all sharing the rotating co-headlining bill. But that plan "just didn't work out," Gates said without further elaboration. There's no word yet on who'll be recruited to warm up the crowds on this forthcoming Avenged/ Coheed trek. Gates said the bands are considering going with a comedian or a circus act of some kind as the opener for all of the tour's dates, "because we don't want another band that sounds like us [on the bill]," which, the guitarist added, is "impossible these days."

In other A7x news, Gates said Avenged are talking about releasing their first DVD. "We're coming up with concepts right now, and just trying to figure out if we want to be a band with a DVD or not," he said. "We're talking to different people, but we're just thinking about what we want to do for it, if we want to do one. Hopefully, that will be available to everybody shortly, which would be out of control. We want it to be more us just hanging out as opposed to live footage. It should be pretty f---ing exciting."

As for those rumors that have been swirling about Avenged Sevenfold's possible inclusion on this summer's Ozzy-free Ozzfest, Gates said though there is an offer on the table, nothing is confirmed. In fact, the band might be spending this summer rocking abroad.

"We're keeping our options open," he said. "We don't know what we want to do. We've hit the U.S. so hard it might not make sense [to do Ozzfest]. We haven't gone to Japan yet. We just have to start going over the whole world. There are a lot of summer festivals in Japan that we certainly don't want to miss."
