Ignea Premiere New Single & Music Video "Prefab" From Upcoming New Album "Monumental"

Ukrainian progressive metal outfit Ignea have joined forces with Andy LaPlegua of industrial outfit Combichrist for their latest single, “Prefab.” The track is taken from Ignea’s forthcoming new album, “Monumental,” which Napalm are set to release on October 23rd.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Ignea vocalist Helle Bohdanova commented:

“‘Prefab’ explores the darker side of nostalgia — prefabricated socialist housing blocks that were originally built to provide everyone with a roof over their heads. But, like many socialist ideals, the concept was flawed at its core: uniform and industrial, stripping people of individuality and personal choice and making them feel like ants inside their own homes. Remnants of this architecture can still be found throughout Europe — from Ukraine and Poland to Germany and France — and while people may have personal memories associated with these buildings, that nostalgia is often bittersweet at best, rooted in poverty and authoritarian rule.

As Ukrainians from a post-Soviet country, we grew up surrounded by the physical remains of a system that promised a bright future but delivered the opposite. What’s even stranger is that, despite knowing how deeply flawed it was, many people still feel drawn to certain aspects of Soviet life. And it’s not just us — plenty of people in the West romanticize Soviet aesthetics and feel nostalgic for a past they never experienced.

With the ‘Prefab’ video, we wanted to capture that sense of confinement and uniformity — a cramped room representing a typical Soviet apartment, where only the tenants ever change.

When we were developing the demo for ‘Prefab,’ we could already hear Andy’s voice in the back of our minds, so we’re incredibly happy that he agreed to lend his vocals to the track. Having Combichrist contribute to this industrial metal banger on our upcoming album — what could be more iconic?
