Multi-platinum masked metal outfit Slipknot have returned to action following the recent ousting of their core member, DJ Sid Wilson. The group have just surprise-released a music video for their brand new single “Arsenal“. The band’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan directed the clip. The track marks their first new material since welcoming ex-Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande into the fold.

The song also heralds another new chapter for the band. Following their previous effort “The End, So Far“, which fulfilled their contractual obligations to longtime label home Roadrunner Records, the group have now established a new label venture of their own. The track arrives through that imprint, (sic)est Records, which operates in partnership with Roadrunner and Atlantic.

Earlier this week, a post shared online by the band’s guitarist Jim Root indicated that recording remains underway for the band’s eighth studio album. Previous reports from the studio have indicated that Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Mushroomhead) is overseeing those sessions.

Comments reportedly shared by guitarist Jim Root indicate that this track is a standalone single and will not appear on the band’s forthcoming new album:

Arsenal will NOT be on the new album

Speaking with host Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1 Corey Taylor said of “Arsenal“:

“It pummels. I mean it is absolutely a pummeling experience… Like it’s got these great moments of hyperactivity and then complete flex. It’s like we’ve got everyone by the hair and we’re just going, ‘Go, Go, Go!’.

We’re definitely exploring the realm that we’ve kind of been in for a long time, and bringing in elements that we have never done before… People are gonna be like when they hear it, ‘There’s no way that’s Slipknot. There is no actual way that that is Slipknot.’ I’m here to tell you 100%, you’re damn right it is.”
